SOUTHEND - 4

Thank you for that reference. I had not seen that page before. It seems to bear out the view that I expressed earlier that this is an Etihad mainline (EY) code applied to the connections to the EI transatlantic services from DUB. The reason why the evening departure does not carry the EY code presumably is that it arrives too late to make any connections that day.
Whilst on the subject of information from that page, it shows that tomorrow (Mon 31st)the A320 SEN rotations are FAO, GVA and BCN, and on Tuesday 1st it is FAO and TFS . So a good days use of the A320 on the three consecutive days that can be viewed.

March 1972
The previous record was set almost exactly 42 years ago(!) at Easter 1972 when a BAF CL44 departed with 170 pax on the SEN-OST route.
Express flight Hi
I arranged and organised that first CL-44-D.4, Flight to OST with ZIN and flew with it as one of the BAF Team It caused quite a storm at EGMC on that day, After arrival at OST we boarded coaches which took the party to Bruges for a tour of the city and a very fine lunch,
Which was arranged by our OST station manager Fred Hampson who had previously been the BUAF Station Manager in BSL for the first few years of our Carvair operation from 1962.
1972 was by no means the best year to introduce a turbo prop pax A/C with 174 seats into the UK market and that why it only lasted 4 months before going back to what it was designed to do best hauling cargo worldwide,
A smooth sleek handsome Canadian Prop Liner Fondly remembered by all of us which were involved with Her over the years Day in Day out and a lot of long Nights too.
Kind rgds

Yes, I remember that day quite well.
I seem to recall we rolled it out of the ATEL hangar and positioned it on Stand 6. I have this memory (accurate or false?) of it doing a rolling departure on 06 from Charlie. Do you recall that and who the rest of the crew comprised?
Great days.

Flybe, the low-cost airline that serves Newquay Airport, has bid for and won slots to land at London City Airport from September, the Cornish Guardian understands.
However, there has been no definite report on whether it intends to use the new route.
A spokesperson for Flybe said: "Flybe is in discussions with a number of airports regarding the potential development of new bases, in line with its strategy communicated in November 2013 and during its recent firm placing and open offer.

London Southend Airport has had the largest UK airport solar panel installation as part of its terminal extension.
The 496 solar panels, will supply the terminal's expanded range of shops, cafes and restaurants with clean solar electricity for decades to come, via the airport's private electricity network.

SEN - CAX doomed?
Following the high Court's judgement that Stobart cannot redevelop Carlisle (see here: http://www.cnnewmedia.co.uk/locker/n...sle(Final).pdf ) it seems the often mooted CAX-SEN route will not take flight. Does this affect Aer Arran/Stobart Air predicted growth/income plans?

SEN - CAX doomed?
Well it was always going to take a long time to get off the ground, but I believe they are going to apply again: "Mr Tinkler rejected that claim and confirmed that Stobart will now submit a fresh planning application, saying that it would include clear evidence that commercial flights from the airport can be viable." - Let's see how they get on this time.
SEN easyJet Fleet
The easyJet SEN base now effectively comprises 3 x A319 and 1 x A320 rather than the previous 4 x A319.
In addition to the TFS route (for which an aircraft was previously often positioned-in) the based A320 operates routes including BCN, FAO, GVA and VCE. I assume this change is due to the seat demand on such routes currently justifying use of the larger aircraft.
I suspect that once the TFS route finishes for the season later this month the fleet will revert to 4 x A319 for the summer.

Express flight Hi
Yes We did depart on 06, The Capt was Kevin Keegan TDK's bother the F/E was Mike Tunley can't remember the F/O just now but rest of the crew were made up by a bunch of hosties which were retrained off the carvair fleet, We have our CL-44 reunion in June so will dig a bit deeper then and revert.
In the meantime did you work for ATEL in those days?? If so I would have known you as by that time I had worked on the Airport for 13 years and for most of that time had the run of all the ATEL facilities, A good friend then and still is Peter Brown who in the 1960s was an inspector at ATEL, He always did the engine runs on the DC-6 operating the Africargo service ex EGLL every Saturday night to FAJS (as JNB was known then) He would call me in Ops to say he was about to start the engine run, I would find someone to cover for me for half an hour and get myself seated next to him in the right hand seat, It was a great thrill for me the PW 2800's had such a pleasing deep growl when run up to nearly full power and the nose bowed down as the nose oleo was compressed down and the great thing was the A/C had a ignition analyzer so if a plug went out you could indentify it very quickly and get it changed, not like the DC-4 if only we had had them on the ATL-98 it would have saved many hours of engineers heart ache.

According to the seating plan on the Easyjet website - both the 0635 departure to Faro and the 0700 departure to Krakow from SEN are being operated by A320s tomorrow (03/04/14). Unusual??

Very interested to see how Antwerp performs in direct competition with CityJet to LCY. Cologne is another market with other London destinations (nearest being STN with Germanwings).
