Was rather hoping Stobart weren't going to do that, but best of luck to them. I only hope they know what they are doing.
That's a bit of a turn around. I thought it was only the other month that commercial flights to Carlisle airport were rumoured not to be happening. That might explain why Carlisle Airport have now decided to join Facebook - perhaps a bit of marketing idea.

From an outsiders perspective, looking at SEN-CAX this just seems like a particular airline's desire to connect two airports they own, using an airline that they also control. I also hope they know what they are doing with this.

Where exactly is there any statement or confirmation that there is a plan for a Southend - Carlisle service? I assume that SWBKCB was being less than serious in his / her post?

and who says the airline will operate from SEN as Stobart Air? The stories I have read clearly state they intend to develop the business under franchise agreements with other carriers, so I don't thnk Stobart Air will appear as a brand at Southend anymore than Aer Arann does currently …

Yes, tongue firmly in cheek, but Stobarts have repeatedly stated in their bid to redevelop Carlisle that they plan to operate from CAX to SEN and DUB using Aer Arann ATR's - here's one link, but search the News and Star website for loads of other statements

Great to see progress but I can't see Carlisle being any different to Teesside, Cambridge, Oxford ,Dundee or Doncaster, struggling to make routes work. BLK and DSA to Dublin struggle, I can't see Carlisle being any different . In addition, one would suppose that the ATR would do 3 rotations per day, SEN and back then DUB and back and then SEN and back - utilisation could be better.
The Cargo is the bit that must be attractive, which I know little about . But in wouldn't back the airport from a passenger potential point of view.

Owning an airport and an airline had catastrophic results for the owners of Manston Airport. I wonder if Stobart Group are being led by commercial sense or hubris in making the decision to rename the airline? This might make sense of William Stobart's decision to bale out and concentrate on the trucking business that has supported the huge losses of the airport venture.

Stobart's have just lost their latest court case to re-develop CAX - in their statement following the case they still mention twice daily SEN and a daily DUB

Through our Stobart airline investment [formally Aer Arann, this week renamed as Stobart Air] our plans would have created a huge opportunity for the region. These plans included a daily flight to Dublin (and via customs clearance in Dublin, to the United States) and two daily flights to London and the South-East through our London Southend Airport.

Now that the Flybe/Stobart franchise agreement has been announced with two aircraft based at SEN for flights to northern Europe initially, expect later this week more information on the destinations and schedules. It's very good news (I think).

We had our suspicions it might be them - what an interesting development. 6 routes from June 5 with two ATR 72-600s and reservations open from 3 April. 5 year deal agreed.
I would query where the 2nd ATR 72-600 is coming from? We have seen a picture of what appears to be EI-FAX in the Aer Lingus Regional livery, and presumably EI-FCY will be in the Flybe livery. Can anyone explain?

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Stobart Air interim chief executive Sean Brogan said that the airline will next week receive delivery of the final ATR 72-600 aircraft that was part of an eight-aircraft order made in 2012.
He confirmed that the company has options to buy four more aircraft. He said that while the options are likely to be exercised, he declined to say when Stobart Air might like to see deliveries of those additional aircraft begin. He said negotiations on exercising the options would probably begin this year.

The statement issued by RNS (the London Stock Exchange news service) included the wording "... two 72 seat ATR500/600 aircraft based at Southend Airport ...." so perhaps that provides the answer to your question.
