ANR LCY has traditionally primarily served the diamond market (Antwerp, the diamond capital of Europe, if not the world, to Hatton Garden). The combination of the LCY service and the Eurostar did for the CityFlyer Gatwick Antwerp route. I cannot see Antwerp Southend working unless the LCY service stops. Why not Brussels, instead?

Hmmm. Rather thought it was CFE's decision to get rid of ATR equipment after the full BA takeover and morph into the jet only (at the time) BA CityFlyer and later move to LCY. Whatever, I will agree there was over provision for a short while with three London airports being served and it needed consolidation.

I for one will not consider Eurostar a competitor until it actually serves Antwerp.

Give them a chance.

Give the routes a chance for goodness sake, they haven't even started yet !!!

To many people on here argue if its white or black or if its yes or no.

What will be will be, so just get over it.........

If you think you can do a better job, maybe send in your CV asking for a top management job at the companies concerned.

I agree, we should wait until the first set of pax figures come through - these will give us the answers we need. Antwerp is most certainly as shock choice, but they must have really, REALLY thought about it hard especially when they are competing with WX. One of my first ever flights as a child was from LCY to Antwerp, and I would love to go again. Its a great city!

Hehehe - yes. My first ever flight was on a BAF Carvair from SEN to OST (but I was a baby).

I must say I am well impressed how this has all been set up in the most professional manner. We may not agree with the routes, but it's not our business, and we are only amateurs in this field. Today, every new destination airport has a new article on its website, plus a shortcut link to FlyBe website for reservations. I do feel that Stobart Air/FlyBe and the foreign airports/towns want this to work. Good luck to them all and well done.

SWKKCB

you must be very young...considering when LCY opened. Good luck.....and to the other chap about Carvair flights.....I missed my chance to do a day return to Calais for 4/6d on a Bristol Freighter, and to Ostend for 9/shillings. Why? The aircraft were common..it not meant so much.....every 15 minutes landing and taking off at SEN...but it's not until they are gone, we regret not doing it.

tophat - what are shillings ? Is that a typo that should actually refer to the pre euro Austrian schilling or maybe you mean the Kenyan shilling ? Didn't know you could ever buy flights from the UK with those currencies...

How far do some posters think Antwerp is from Brussels? It's 30 mins max down the motorway or similar by train. Let me assure you, Eurostar is very much a competitor to London Antwerp air routes.
