Also all Jet2 aircraft that as landed or took off have needed to stop on taxiway and stop engines and be tugged onto stand and is the seem with taking off tugged to runway and start up there.

Why would they do this?

EZY or TCX isnt doing it!

07 April 2012 - Belfast International Airport

Jet2.com senior management have taken the difficult decision to cease operations at Belfast International Airport from midnight Sunday 7th April 2013. This is due to increased safety concerns during current runway maintenance programme.

Our domestic flights operating on Monday 8th April between Belfast International and Leeds Bradford will now operate to and from Belfast City Airport. All customers travelling on these affected flights will be provided with coach transportation. We will make a further announcement tomorrow regarding our international flights operating later this week.

I hear this is due to damage to an aircraft on more than one occasion in the past week, which is believed to be caused by FOD on the runway.

would it be possible for jet2 to move to BHD? could the operate within the time retraints and runway length? i know they operate cargo from BFS but they could keep cargo at BFS and move all pax flights down?

Thought the reason would be strange but never would have thought of safety concerns! Is this Jet2 being dramatic and trying to secure concessions or have they a genuine argument? How are Easy operating, surely if it is unsafe for one airline then how do the others cope?

Think there might be more to this than meets the eye, I wonder will it reach the press....

Sorry for slight change of subject but is there any reason why BA flights in and out of BHD have been so un-punctual over the last few months.

Have been travelling monthly in/out of Belfast for 20 years and the current BA service is very poor in terms of punctuality.

Have checked on Flights Stats and it's not just the few flights I take; seems to be across the board.

Do BA and EI really compete?
It's very cosy, with BA.com using EI code-share as well as their own services.

Would be great if the relationship between VS and EI was stepped up. Getting VS Little Red into Belfast and Dublin would be great, although how that would work in practice needs some thought.

Wonder what will happen post Oct? Will the route be quietly dropped or are EI holding out watching the market and forward bookings before committing?

So rumours were hot about KLM route to BHD from AMS. But unless I missed something, the airport has not announced this, or it is actually not happening. Also no trace of it on KLM site. A few who seem to be in the know stated it was a done deal??? Info.?

Today it is stated on this site that Links Air will fly Oxford BHD. I would have thought that BHD would have been public with that as soon as possible.

Also, the papers stated some weeks back, a rumour that Abertis was selling the airports, though nothing has been confirmed for BFS. The question is, are there talks between the 2 Belfast airport going on? Yes there would be competition concerns, but it would be expected that BHD would be the one with the greatest interest.

Just some thoughts on our local airport scene...!

EI BUD

I believe KLM squashed that rumour 4 or 5 weeks ago, as stated in the BT

Albertis is looking at off loading its aviation wing, CWL recently but have not heard any other rumours.

Maybe common sense will prevail and we can have one airport for NI

I believe the sale of Cardiff was set to pave the way for the sale of the rest of Abertis owned airports. Cardiff was loss making and it may have dragged the value of the other airports down so they offloaded it first.

A newspaper contacted KLM about the start up at BHD and they declined they would be starting there. I would say that Abertis is talking many company's at the min about what to do.... Just have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks Gazmo, interesting, I was reading about KLM on here at the time, and felt it was a usual reliable source who was saying it, must check back!!

The Links air timetable has not been confirmed yet, they said by the end of June it would start, frequencies not yet agreed. Feels quite slapdash in that it is now practically May and no word of it in order to get forward booking and advertise in a meaningful way.

If you are not a big company with strong and recognised distribution channels you would need to be doing some strong advertising to the appropriate audience.....

Best of luck to them, good to see new air services starting.

Faro is on the drop down menu for Thomson in summer 2014, nothing bookable but it looks set to replace PMI which is being increased from BFS. Likely waiting for EI to confirm there schedules which will be a while off yet.

Given the stated objective of AerLingus to develop wet lease arrangements e.g. being Virgin with Little Red and in Scandinavia with their A330, any moves to develop such additional business. This is bound to put the spot light on underperforming markets, hence to free up aircraft for such activity.

BHD LGW still is not on the booking system past end of October, perhaps EI are measuring their approach to the route, but given that the timetable has 1. been reduced already just as the start of the summer scheduled has arrived, and 2. the timetable for the business flyers is appaling, given the last daily arrival is 1855 at BHD from LGW, with an aircraft sitting idle on the ground until the next morning. All of this doesn't give confidence that BHDLGW will be retained, for if it is not, little options for an alternative.

Starting to feel like BHD will be a 1 aircraft base for Winter 2013, with an additional airbus joining the lone unit in summer for the sun routes.

Any insiders got any update?
