So, most of us in these areas still have to use taxi or car to reach CWL.

TCX have removed their company a/c and placed it at STN as of the end of Nov. 2013. An ACMI a/c (operator yet to be announced) will fly the summer program under TCX flight numbers using the current TCX CWL based cabin crew.

CITYJET COMMITS TO CARDIFF AIRPORT
Published: 27 January 2014
Chief Executive of CityJet, Christine Ourmičres, has expressed the company’s commitment to Cardiff Airport after the airline began operating Glasgow and Paris flights from the Welsh capital.
On 20th January, CityJet began flying from Cardiff to Glasgow and Paris; from the start of the summer schedule on 30th March, flights to Edinburgh and Jersey will be added too.
“We decided to invest in Cardiff as we saw a unique and exciting business opportunity to introduce CityJet services from Wales, and introduce a mini-hub to our overall network”, said Ms Ourmičres.
“With Flybe withdrawing their Glasgow and Paris routes from the region, we knew we could introduce a much needed service to Scotland, France and Jersey for the community in Cardiff, Wales and the south west. We believe that our aircraft perfectly complements the demand of the region, and are offering a better, more enticing schedule to meet the demands of travellers.”
Flights to Edinburgh and Jersey are now available to book, along with all flights to Glasgow and Paris, at cityjet.com.
Ms Ourmičres continued: “A first positive sign that our introduction of Cardiff services are being well received is that in the short time that we’ve announced and started service, our overall Twitter followers have increased by 10 percent! We’re very happy to be here and look forward to our relationship with Cardiff Airport being a long and fruitful one.
“As an independent regional airline, we leverage our core strengths: innovation, flexibility and the ability to listen. This allows us to provide a personal service to our passengers’ needs, and seek out opportunities for us a company; Cardiff is the perfect example.”
Chief Executive of Cardiff Airport, Jon Horne, commented: “We’re really pleased to welcome another new airline to Cardiff and our relationship with CityJet has already proven itself to be productive. We’re delighted this provides a new and improved schedule for customers who rely on us for travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Paris and Jersey.
“CityJet’s flexible approach, adapting its services to match the needs of customers in the regions fits perfectly with our own, and we’re sure they’ll be popular with local people who want the convenience of travelling to and from Cardiff for both business and pleasure".

Thank you MACDO for the explanation.
So the new carrier will use TCX CWL based Cabin Crew?
So what happens when the TCX crew are A320 trained and they end up leasing a 737-800? The cabin crew have to go through the aircraft training which will cost even more money.
Well TCX must have a very good idea which company it is, and to get their approval for another carriers Cabin crew to operate on their aircraft.

That's quite a good point. The 737 has never been used by TCX and runs counter to the long term plan to be a 100% Airbus fleet sometime in the future. Although training up the CWL crews to work on the 73 is not a big issue, it throws up problems in terms of availability of sby/relief staff. There are not enough full time crew at CWL to run the operation throughout the summer and crews from other bases would be required at some point. Therefore, I don't think the 73 would work, unless it was fully crewed by the sub-charter airline. Then, of course, what would they do with the Airbus employees at CWL. I am wondering if the lateness of the announcement is due to not being able to source a suitable A320 from an ACMI, Small Planet has been in the frame and has recently taken delivery of another 320, but that one is now in operation and painted, but still no announcement. The plot thickens!

Have I missed something or are we just plucking Airlines out of the sky?
We've gone from Smartlynx to Small Planet to Avion Express to Titan and now 737 talk?
I would expect TCX are smart enough to lease an aircraft their crews are trained on.

When there is an information vacuum, rumour will fill the space, that the basis of PPRUNE!
As it happens, SmartLynx have published the plot for their frames and CWL doesn't feature.
As with all thing in aviation, it could change at any moment and they miraculously acquire another one, but I think not.
TCX will obviously use an a/c they are familiar with and since they can't sell the seats on a 321 at cwl, let alone a 757, 320 has to be the option. The question is, which operator. 8 weeks to the opening of summer and no one is appointed. That is odd, not unprecedented, but odd.

My comment about the 737 was just playing Devils Advocate being so close to finalising the S14 flying schedule, and if TCX were needing to crew it.
I would expect that if they sub-chartered now, the aircraft would come with full crew and TCX would only possibly have a "Rep" onboard.
Im very curious at to why TCX still have contracted crew at CWL with no aircraft being based there.

As most passengers using Cardiff will be Welsh, rather than inbound tourists or business people, it is not surprising the bus carries few passengers. If there are two or more people a pre-booked taxi is usually cheaper and a lot more convenient than public transport.

I know they are as well as basing 2 A321 at BRS block-purchasing seats on EZY aircraft so to get rid of their A321 would make some sort of sense but just for the sake of one more season keep their soul A320 then get rid in october?

You would have to live within 5 miles of the airport, for that to be true.

the published TCX plan is for the SH fleet eventually to be A321 only, that plan is going ahead base by base. Before Christmas it was planned to have no 320 for S14, then it changed to 1. The stated position was that CWL could only justify a 320, hence the change of base for the company 321 a/c and the introduction of another acmi. They would want to operate ACMI plus TCX Cabin Crew because it allows them to quality control the in flight product and keep the in flight sales business, which is worth having. The problem is, that was the plan 10 weeks ago, what it is now heavens knows!
