A fascinating read, albeit a tad out of date (Helvetic still mentioned, and flybe as the great white hope...)
The key points in there, I'm afraid to say, back up what most of us have been saying for years - no-one really cares about the airport building and facilities, and no-one is that bothered about the road links. It is all down to the perception of the market that the airlines have, and until that changes, Cardiff faces a very tough time.
Regarding the routes - I would always take these with a pinch of salt. Ask pretty much anyone in Cardiff if they think that someone ought to fly from Cardiff to X, they will say yes. Would you use it? Yes, of course. Would you let me take your credit card number to make a booking? Um, no thanks.... cf, Aberdeen, that everyone wanted desperately according to the surveys, but not enough to book tickets on....
PF, couldn't agree more about the CWL/BRS debate. Why does it matter if BRS has 10m, 20m, 30m pax a year, so long as CWL serves the market it has?

Ski 2014/15
Looks like Flybe are back with ski flights next winter. Both CMF and GVA available on Sat. Both departures timed at 13:40 from CWL according to inghams. No flights found to LYS nor GNB but not seen the crystal ski brochure yet.

Well, SP have taken delivery of another 320 recently, but their problems in Italy doesn't make them look particularly attractive. It is interesting how quiet this has gone both externally and within TCX. I wonder if tcx might have a change of heart and do the job themselves?

Yes SP-HAE left DGX sometime last week. I dont think TCX have the capacity to operate this in-house, and the seating chart on the website has now been an A320 for some time. I have brought up the issue numerous times with TCX staff and none of them could provide me with any facts at all. I think this could be a severe case of wait and see.

Today saw a few extra ATR72 rotations, along with a MON 757. Tomorrow will see more extra rotations with ATR72's and an Aer Lingus A320, along with anything else which is chartered.

The airport boss is quoted as saying "a bus service connecting the airport with Cardiff city centre has also exceeded expectations", the BBC say there are an average of 4 passengers per bus. Nice to see what the definition of "exceeding expectations" is.

That works out as an average passenger number. Bristol's Express bus service which has been operating for 15 years and runs more frequent service has average of approximately 11 or 12.
The Cardiff Airport Express needs an average of 8 passengers per journey for it to be profitable according to Prof Stuart Cole.
What has to be taken into consideration is that the service was announced by the Welsh Government on the same day as the media was covering the visit of the world's largest passenger aircraft at Cardiff Airport (27th Jul 13) and commenced shortly later.
The service has not been operating for a whole year yet so will be interesting to see the figures for Summer 2014.

A bus that doesn't stop where it's needed
Let's hope Professor Cole has noticed that this thrice hourly bus cruises through populous areas of western Cardiff and the Vale without a single significant stop - other than those for the occasional person staying at the three hotels en route.
So, most of us in these areas still have to use taxi or car to reach CWL.
Three or four new key stops and a bit of intelligent rerouting might double the number of pax....to 8?

Can I ask why people are referring to Thomas Cook as an ACMI Summer 2014?
Have i missed something and are TCX basing an aircraft at CWL purely for ACMI charters?
