The £99 base return fare is based on the GLA route, but can also be taken as a good guide for the EDI pricing. What are you on about Jarvis123 ?? CityJet have announced an EDI route, therefore CWL obviously had an EDI route ?

People say that its a loss of capacity, but in terms of actual numbers, then as long as the BE customer base is maintained, which in theory it should as prices are quite similar, then the actual figures reported in the stats will not be affected that greatly due to the average LF's.

Thanks, I do know a fair bit about traffic patterns and what works from the Scottish end and I also know what they'll be going against at BRS with EZY. I know which company is cheaper, which company is more profitable, I know that flybe who have way more market presence could not make it work and I know CityJet have been cut off from their own high yielding markets at LCY.

That much we know, the idea that a loss making venture with old aircraft, no market presence in Wales, no based crew and a higher seat mile cost than the other guy is in any way a winner is a joke. It will fail, this is last gasp desperation from a company that never moved on.

If it lasts one year it will be a miracle.

I remember back when Vueling started at CWL, everyone on this forum was saying all the typical things, 'It will never work' etc. etc. that has worked, and is obviously a profitable venture for them as they come back every Summer, even this winter.

Given time, CityJet will work from CWL, and with a new owner on board soon that may of course wish to take on some fleet modernisation, then anything can happen ! It's just great that the airport has managed to attract a replacement carrier within such a short time scale, and the service is there for the catchment to use. As i say, CityJet will need a fleet modernisation programme sooner or later, just hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

Perhaps Cityjet at Cardiff will work, perhaps it won't. It would reassure me more if Cityjet published scheduled + fares for the CWL-EDI sooner rather than later. Every day of delay in reservations being available pushes some more Cardiff residents making advance bookings to donate their cash to Easyjet.

I must agree with you there though davidjohnson. It has now been over a week since GLA and ORY were put on sale, so im sure that EDI,JER and GLA and ORY should now be on sale for the Summer season, but i guess it will take as long as they need.

Yeah totally agree with the previous entry about Vueling.....it was full of comments BCN would fail and they would leave CWL......but have they ? No, they've increased their presence.....ALC & AGP year round with both BCN & PMI summer only.

Do agree though the CityJet advertising has been pretty minimal, it's not even on the CWL web page.....there is mention of Vueling & Citywing, surely it won't take much to add a little CityJet logo & mention ????

Precisely how many summers have they been, to date, back for?

Phileas im sure you know the answer to this. I believe they started operating BCN back in 2011, which went on sale in October 2010. So i make that 4 summers including this one. If it wasnt profitable or at least going somewhere it would have been axed along with SOU, not continual growth summer on summer, and then even a winter operation all in the space of what is around 4 years, when apparently it was destined to fail ?

So they've "come back" for the summers 2012 and 2013, they haven't come back yet for summer 2014 because it's still only January.

So your "every" summer is actually 2!

How long did BMI Baby operate to/from CWL before they decided it just wasn't worth it? Didn't they return "every" summer also?

Phileas seriously, what is wrong?

BMI? O dear they pulled out of Cardiff, they also pulled out of Manchester. Maybe Manchester is doomed?

Bmi had major problems, it's a crying shame as they were a great airline, but the airline had problems well beyond CWL and I hardly think they are the best indicators of how well CWL can perform.

As I have said before, why can't we all for once try and be positive, after all our attitudes have an influence, if people are reading these forums and think 'O well it will fail anyway so best stick with Bristol' then word spreads and it'll fail before it even gets off the ground because people have been wrongly let to assume that something has already gone ….

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to write off new (and exciting) developments so quickly, we should be promoting them and supporting and spreading good word, not bad.

At the end of the day CityJet have just launched flights from CWL for about £100 return, that's excellent value and should be welcomed

Vueling

Vueling has actually been operating from CWL since the end of March 2012 when it commenced flying to Barcelona. Alicante and Palma commenced in mid June that year. So 2014 will be the third summer of operation.

Summer 2013 saw Malaga added which with ALC and BCN commenced at the beginning of April. PMI again began in mid June.

Then for the first time in, 2013/2014, Vueling put in a winter operation at CWL with ALC and AGP.

So the overall picture is one of a steady build-up of its operations at the airport.

So the only summer, so far, that they have actually come back for is summer 2013 so the Valley (Air Guru) Schoolboy's "every summer" is actually only the summer of 2013.

Or am I missing something?

ALC, AGP, PMI are some of the few routes from CWL that can make money year on year in recession or boom. Baby didn't give up at CWL because those routes didn't make money but because there were no secondary routes to utilise the based aircraft on. Those routes will always be covered. The Spanish aren't commercial genius they just don't have based aircraft at CWL so when they get back to ALC or AGP where they are based they can go off on another profitable route that's why they can make it work where others apparently couldn't.

I think its worth pointing out that as an airline, Vueling, use CWL as a destination. There is no CWL base, no resident a/c and no employment generated by the airline. Profits go to a non-UK profit center. Then to IAG a multinational. It does help the ground staff maintain employment and generates income for the airport as a whole. If loads drop they will drop CWL very quickly. Vueling, from a business in Wales point of view, is better than nothing, but not much.

Now I know Wikipedia is not 100% accurate or reliable, but it is saying that Small Planet are operating from CWL to numerous destinations including HER, DLM, PMI etc on behalf of Low Cost Holidays....is this true ? What aircraft too ?

Probably best discussed on its own thread, but is it just Small Planet Airlines Italia which is in trouble or the parent Lithuanian airline as well ? I'm guessing that if Enac felt they had to act then problems may have carried over to the parent Lithuanian company as well
