Well it looks like Cityjet have sorted their booking system out, managed to get a return to/from GLA for £130, yes not as cheap as Easyjet but still happy to fly from CWL !!!!! Had a look at the ORY flights and return for £197 inc bags compared to £200 ex BRS with Air France to CDG on specific dates that I need to travel so 👍👍 from me

Cardiff Airport Express Bus Service Review
Wales Online is reporting that Edwina Hart AM has asked for a review of the service
Cardiff Airport Express bus service under review - just five months after it launched - Wales Online
Very sensible too. Rarely have I even seen more than a single passenger onboard, and often no one at all.
There has to be a better way to waste my taxes.

Yeah it's true, as of the end of March, both Cityjet & Flybe (Loganair) will be operating between CWL & EDI. The F50 v D38, unless Loganair operate with their soon to be Saab 2000's.

The Loganair flights to Edinburgh will be operated by the 31/32 seat Dornier 328. With the 50 seat Fokker 50's being used for CityJet it works out that certainly on a weekday there is only marginal additional capacity in each direction.

Unfortunately the capacity may only have changed marginally, but the direct operating costs to deliver that are considerably higher than before (2 smaller aircraft instead of 1 larger one). How sustainable is that?

What's the hull depreciation, purchase/lease cost of a F50 compared to a Q400, what are the fuel burn comparisons of a F50 and a Q400 both with 50 bums on seats, the larger the aircraft then the larger the landing, navigation, eurocontrol, handling etc. fees and so on.
Unless it's being suggested that the Q400's were regularly carrying in excess of 50 punters!

As others have said, there's been an element of cock-up to all this. They've had a few weeks from the initial announcement to set things up but seem to have mucked up even the surely simple task of putting flights on sale. Now it's garnered them negative headlines that will lead to many potential pax thinking cityjet=rip-off before they've even looked at the website!
Cityjet are a new airline on routes that've clearly been previously marginal. They're also afaik a totally new airline at CWL and GLA so they need give a good impression from the off to win pax and business, they can ill-afford to alienate some potential pax before they've even started!
There is a free app to estimate route economics here:

No F50 but it does have a DH8-400.

What aircraft are Eastern using on the CWL-NCL-ABZ sector on the Sunday flights ? Is it the J41 or Saab 2000 ? Got to head up back north and last time the J41 was pretty full......cheers

Chatting to EDI crew and apparently Loganair are not going to do it now CityJet are offering it. I suppose not a bad move as over capacity could have pushed both off the route over time - can't see there being enough traffic to warrant the two carriers at the moment

Real shame.
CWL EDI is still not bookable. Loganair could have stolen a march on CityJet by selling tickets first. I believe Loganair would have been a better long term prospect than CityJet, whoes move to Cardiff smacks of desperation as BA pushes them out of their core LCY market.

No surprise really. Loganair simply unable to compete with the fares charged by Cityjet. With a smaller aircraft (Dornier 328), their costs were always going to be higher than the Fokker 50 used by Cityjet. This gave corresponding higher fares, which with the current state of the economy in South Wales, the public just can't afford. £150 return to EDI is unsustainable at best, whereas the more attractive £99 return with Cityjet is a much better value deal for the public.
A shame, especially as there is now a decrease in capacity between CWL and EDI.

It will be interesting to see if those fares are loss leading promotional fares. Cityjet are not known for low fares, but they have a history of ramping up fares on other routes.

Again lots of airline MD's with time on their hands it appears, with so much knowledge about the CWL market, booking patterns, yields by booked date, commercial agreements with airports at either end etc etc?
And best still all this opinion 2.5 months before the first departure to EDI! Bet your crystal b**ls must be in great demand - look BA, AA, EK, QF - just look at the queue!!!!!
Hell I wouldn't get in a car with some of the posters here - car is bound to crash before it leaves

Where is this £99 fare you speak of? At the moment you cannot book flights to EDI on the Cityjet website. So with Loganair deciding not to run the service, and it not being bookable with Cityjet, Cardiff seems not to have any future service to EDI (???)
