It's good to see the airport taking small steps to improve customer service on those little things that don't cost much, but are valued by passengers.
Really feel this soft approach is the best to ensure a long term future for the airport.
Fingers crossed on the new routes mentioned, and for the success of Flybe's winter flights.

Cardiff Airport introduces free Wi-Fi
And the link wasn't a press release, it was a link to a Reggie Spotter forum.
I own and operate just a small and modest business, our WiFi is free 24/7 and we don't feel a need to be miserly and ask people to pay for it, perhaps we should make a Press Release about it

The text though is a direct copy of the press release on the airport website

Crewmeal couldn't have put it better myself, this day and age to charge for trolleys and not have unlimited wifi is just small minded for an airport that claims to be the international gateway to Wales. Are the toilets free as well now?

Wifi
Whilst having the WiFi 24/7 would not cost much more, you would have the general public decamping to the airport to access the free wi-fi as it would be considered a WiFi hotspot. It makes commercial sense to have 30 minutes for free, although to encourage business travellers it should be completely free in the Executive Lounge.
The Nato summit will once again put the spotlight on Wales, lets hope the WAG capitalise on this unlike when we had the Ryder Cup at the same venue.

You mean they're going to spend five quid and thirty minutes on the bus in each direction just to make use of the WiFi?
It's quite straightforward, upon presentation of a boarding pass at the airport information desk one receives a printout of a username and password, no boarding pass then no WiFi.
Rocket science? ... Yes I know
Now back to Super Typhoon HAIYAN that is about to come calling upon me in some 24 hours from now, and "no", a Super Typhoon isn't something that the RAF operates

Afraid there's no Information Desk anymore Phileas, hasn't been for a number of years.
Totally free wifi should be available in the Executive Lounge.
I doubt many people would pay for the service, so we'll soon see if there's a change in policy after a few months.
30 mins is good for your average scheduled flight with most arriving about an hour before departure, quick browse or check of emails, perfect.
No doubt what will bring complaints in the event of delays. The Airport should provide delayed passengers with totally free wifi. This is when people need to send emails, make contact with others and occupy themselves doing work or browsing the internet (there isn't exactly much to do at CWL!)
Bear in mind that also the majority of CWL's pax will be holiday makers, who will highly likely have 3G access, depending on signal.

The people who come here for the summit are our guests, they don't pay us....the state will pay for them to be catered for, the practical result being taxpayers money going to the selected businesses that look after our 'Guests'
Its a bit like reverse socialism, public money subsidising private businesses something modern western capitalist states have become very adept at.

Advantage one: extra footfall for the other retailers; advantage two: brand awareness for any airline associated with the terminal; advantage three: airport makes money from non-flying passengers and can indulge in commercial innovation, for example no landing charges for commercial flights <20 seats and, what the heck, maybe pay the APD too.
Make it into a place worth visiting in its own right, then you'll start getting boyfriends surprising their girlfriends, or parents surprising their children, by surprising them with "oh, actually we're not stopping today, you're flying to [Paris/Rome/NewYork] and now "Cardiff" gets a reputation for being even more of a fun place and people start coming from the other side of the Severn.
All for the price of free WiFi and pulling a few heads out of the sand.
Of course the Asians are already way ahead on this one: BBC World News - Fast Track, Singapore, The airport filled with art, slides and tropical gardens
Celtic - please go into your nearest major train station or shopping mall and try to observe how much groups of teenagers spend in shops given that they rely heavily on parents for money, and the attitude of retail staff towards them.

CelticRambler - while your ideas are great, the current security paranoia that in place in this country would put an end to any of that. Equally, the landside of the terminal is just too small to accomodate most of the checkin on a busy day let alone groups of teenagers hell bent on getting a coffee and using the wifi.

I have to say what a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was too. A couple of minutes to check-in, one person in front of me at security (although I was bizarrely made to take my watch off for the first time ever despite averaging 100 flights a year...) and a smattering of folk in the lounge. When we went to board the KL flight to Schiphol I spotted the grand total of three other people in the main terminal area.
Why can't all airports be like this ?.
