Always a great site to see a 747 in our part of the world , NCL isnt the biggest airport but sure is always a helping hand for these carriers when MAN fails

Perhaps at times like these you may need to reminded that there have still been occasions when NCL has been used for diversions when MAN has been fully utilised for that role; BA used to have a policy of restricting the number of aircraft it had divert into 1 station (or so it would seem!).

It's not so much a case of MAN "failing" as being a victim of its own success in having many more aircraft on it's own services than NCL does which means that the staff at MAN need to prioritise them rather accept aircraft on diversion.

Ringwayman - To be fair , there was too many diversions for just MAN to handle anyway last night , we are no where near the size of MAN but its good to see NCL can handle them when they come , Think the VS A346 was the first of its type to land at NCL last night

Cheers NCL-TRC

Yeah last night was pretty good, the VS A346 was definitely a pleasant surprise, hoping we may see more of them in the future now we have proven ourselves.

Almost as good as when NCL had 3 BA 744's, 1 BA 772, 1 BA763 and 1 EK77W on the ground at the same time. I don't know if the EK A330 rocked up while they were there too or whether they left in the morning. Now THAT definitely made NCL look like a real airport. 6 (possibly 7) widebodies on the ground at the same time...

Ringwayman, not sure what your point is there but NCL has always been a diversion airport for BA whether MAN is full or not! Not a winter goes by when we don't get diversions from BA at some point.

nclops, we were lucky this winter. We almost didn't get any!

One of the worst winters I think we've ever had, no snow

So not really a case of MAN "failing" then. Thought not.

FWIW, went to TFS last October, MAN was £300pp cheaper for a return than from NCL. No wonder folks are drifting..

Ash666, my spy at the airport tells me there were no baggage issues at the airport Saturday evening. They have asked that I ask you for the flight number of your flight so they can investigate further. They take poor performance very seriously and you do appear to be rather unlucky when using Newcastle as far as I can see. Let us know and they will launch a full investigation.

Any update on this??

Ash666, spies have reported back. Not ideal but your Salzburg flight arrived "off schedule" - about 25 minutes early. On a Saturday night in winter there are not hoards of staff sitting around doing nothing as you and I pay for them in higher ticket prices if there are. So what might have been a simple case of the same team finishing the LHR departure at 2000-2005 (STD-10 to -5), then meeting the inbound INN schedule arrival 2005 followed by the SZG at 2020 went to pot. If it was your business and airlines were forcing you to reduce your margin - would you have one or two baggage crews at that time of night? Ironically, if your flight had been just 10 minutes late it looks like the bags would have been in the baggage hall at the same time as they actually were. Anyway, at least you did get away from the airport little more than 10 minutes later than you would have done had your flight been on time but I agree it is very frustrating whilst waiting in such circumstances as all you want to do is get home and 50 minutes can seem like an eternity. I travelled through Newcastle from Heathrow on Saturday evening and the bags were coming onto the belt as I passed through baggage arrivals and I was nowhere near the back of the aircraft. Having said that, it was the last arrival of the day so extra incentive for the loaders I guess to shift things quickly!

Thanks to you and your spies.

I would have thought they would service the planes as they arrive, ie sort out the SZG plane first seeing as the INN plane hadn't arrived.
There were no pax in the luggage hall when I got there so the LHR baggage would have been finished by then.

I have also heard from 2 different people they they have found it impossible to get through to anyone via the passenger service/helpline telephone line, it just rings a couple of times and goes dead, though I haven't tried it myself.

Ash666

The baggage from LHR goes into the domestic baggage reclaim area whereas arriving from SZG you would have been in international baggage reclaim so you wouldn't have seen the LHR passengers anyway. Also the LHR was a turnaround so needed to be loaded for its return to LHR as well.

On the subject of poor customer service at NCL it really annoys me to see Swissport staff literally standing over passengers watching with both hands in pockets when passengers struggle to dismantle prams and wrestle them into the bags provided by Emirates at the gate.

Same when arriving at a remote gate with sleeping kids in arms trying to disembark down stairs with luggage in one arm and kids in other. They just stand and watch. Infuriating.

So it's a crime now to write something in either Arabic or Farci on an aircraft? Must get the CAA to alter the ANO's now.

Someone should tell the journo that Iranians write in Farci and they are not Arabic.

Thomas Cook

just out of curiosity anyone know why JMCG & TCBC seem to be swapping with each other constantly ? BC positioned in from BHX last night and CG went the other way.
