Not necessarily, my understanding is that configs will still have to be set in order to check-in pax to correct seats, but hopefully less complicated and with less seat changes than currently...time will tell

dublindispatch, what's WABS? Google has offered several possibilities, but none particularly relevant to the subject.....

I think the email from bmi said that all flights to Ireland and the Uk (to mean domestics) would no longer have business class. Not sure it was just for Dublin.

I am surprised at this, they said recently that they were to focus on routes to destinations that were related to the oil industry and some mention of premium fares and class etc. Hence didnt expect them to withdraw the business class....

WAB (never heard it spelt with an S before!) is bmi's weight and balance system used to produce loadsheets etc... it stands for Weight And Balance, clever huh?

Its a LH System, and actually works rather well - I certainly miss it now I have nothing to do with bmi! It pulls figures across from the pretty, but actually fairly useless (in my experience) 'Frontcheck' check in system.

As dublindispatch mentioned, using the correct version (ie seating/catering config) of a particular aircraft can be a bit of a nightmare, especially with their being quite a few versions in service, as well as a whole myriad of versions previously used.

If the cabin is likely to still be 'segregated' in Frontcheck/WAB (ie C & Y 'cabins'), does this mean that flexible economy pax are restricted to the front few rows of the cabin and can't sit elsewhere?

Frontcheck is extremely easy to use, but if you actually want to do anything clever in it you either have to nip into Uynsis or learn ways around it. Guide was so much better and so much easier to manipulate.

The rechecking facility is far easier on frontcheck than guide and that has been a godsend the last few weeks. There's one thing in it's favour.

lexxity, I agree with what you say. Frontcheck does have certain things to its advantage, but everything just takes so long on it (or maybe its just the knackered old PCs we used at our station?!). Once you got to know Guide it was a piece of cake, and seemed to operate with far fewer problems (again that could just be hardware/network problems we experienced).

Anyway, no more of that for us now. Just the lovely Minisoft for baby check in... the less said about that the better.

Baby check in system is horrendous. Front check is full of probelms at MAN too. So not just your pc's. One of it's favourite tricks is to deboard the whole flight during boarding!

WAB

We should all just use KLM DCS!! One system that does the lot. Time will tell if BMI have any direction with what they are doing

A change of direction on thread

Ok, i am sure that the following issues are under discussion in the BMI revival plan, as an "oldie" myself i might be putting myself up to be shot down, still never mind:

When will BMI get rid of the terrible uniform, especially those hats?

When will BMI stop trying to fit wide body hostesses on narrowbody aircraft?

When will BMI teach the cabin crew to smile?

When will all the male flight attendants stop looking like Graham Norton?

When will the Diomond lounges be cleared of debris on a regular basis?

Well done penelope! Insulting an airline and its crew

I see you took the easy route. I used to work for bmi and i'm male. Does this mean i look like Graham Norton???? if so does anyone know a number for a "lookalike" agent????

The uniform does stand out especially with the hat although i agree it needs changing but this is costly. And for an airline short on cash i doubt they will.

Your widebodied hostesses remark is very old fashioned. The last time i checked the job title was CABIN CREW. And all crew have completed a very high standard SEP course.

I've worked with some amazing bmi crew who cant stop smiling. But working for an airline that is going nowhere but down and being on your 4th sector with pax like you onboard can be very taxing on a person.

Have you been to the new lounge in LHR???? Most lounges are run by a handing company eg. servisair. How about you write in about it to bmi??? or maybe that would be too much like hard work. But bitching on here is easier.

I haven't worked for bmi for years but i am a senior crew member with another airline and believe me its not the job pax see. Its 14hr days with no break and minimum rest, but thankfully i work with some great people and i love going to work everyday.

So think before you type please.

Oh Dear

i am so sorry!
I did not intend to insult the airline, or crew only the management who have allowed this to happen!!

I will try to addres your response in order, as i dont know you and as you are no longer cabin crew for BD i cannot comment on the Norton like position, this is purely an observation from todays experience on traveling on BD.

The airline has been short of cash due to Management policies, decisions and the Bish retirement fund, nothing to do with the passengers, why should they be penalised?

I do not think my comments are old fashioned, some crew members have slipped through the filtering system , i have been on flights where the FA,s cannot walk down the isle without bouncing off passengers as they go, doubtless they are wonderful people, however this is a problem, i am sure this does no apply to new hires, however i would respectfully suggest that this situation is reviewed, and does not turn into an AC or CO which of course are renowned for the consistancy of their cabin crew (dreadful)
(please dont go to the experience route, it is more lack of interest on their part)

I can assure you that i over 40 years i have always been a very pleasant passenger, and have had great sympathy with them in delay situations etc. after all we all want to get there asap, from a pax point of vew it is not our problem that the hours you operated that day resulted in four sectors, we paid the same price as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, sector so why should we be penalised? Again management-training problem.

The Lounge at Heathrow is too small at peak times, not serviced correctly in terms of cleanliness, regardless of who operates this facility it is promoted as a BD lounge , and yes i have written to BD!!!

I am delighted you dont have moved on from BD, unless you are fluent in German (in which case they might have you back!)

The crux of the matter is that BD let standards, service levels, and morale fall to rock bottom whilst servicing the Queens retirement fund.

Believe it or not i was once an FA, but with a better company, only did 5 years though, before i saw the light.

Unfortunately at the price people are prepared to pay for shorthaul flights that is simply not possible. Shame because we used to love scoffing the left over scones and cream.

bmi

You would be v v surprised what people would pay for. If folks saw a fare as what you see is what you pay no hidden charges for anything thay may be swayed rather than the 99p fare plus 50quid worth of charges excluding food or drink

Sweetheart I suggest you leave the homophobic bull**** off these boards. Regardless of your opinions of the man's business acumen his sexuality and the sexuality of any one on here is none of your damn business.
