Aer Lingus should definately look at Gatwick-Vilnius. Gatwick was the London destination for FlyLAL before they went to the wall. As far as I know there is now no connection between Lithuania and London, with a large Lithuanian immigrant population in the South of England.

So, Dublin/London- Vilnius would be 2 monopoly hi-capacity routes!

Well Ryanair fly from Luton and Stansted to Kaunas, but indeed, it is fairly shocking that no London to Vilnius route exists.
So yes, definately an opportunity there for Aer Lingus.

Does one route make or break an airline? I suggest it was more than load/yield on the London flight that caused FlyLal's demise.

Most Lithuanians would rather drive. In groups. Large ones.

There is a specific thread regarding flights, or lack of, to lithuania....

the answer is simple - no demand no flight....

if the demand is there....someone will do it to make profit.....

can we just leave it now.....It's Lithuania....hardly a great loss not having a flight there is it!

Is there any reason Aer Lingus dont offer connections from LGW via DUB, like LGW - DUB - Vilnius or LGW - DUB - Rome/Barcelona/Warsaw etc etc. I know most people will go direct and there is obviously plenty of cheaper direct options but it wouldnt cost Aer Lingus anything to offer it and it might get a few passengers especially on the Vilnius route if there is no one on it.

Also anyone know why you cant connect in LGW. They have a daily flight to Knock, so why cant someone say travel NOC-LGW-AGP, this might boost loads on the NOC route as there is no connection available from there.

They don't offer short-haul connections anywhere.

It's a bit of a pain that they don't offer them in Dublin, although I guess they'd only really be any use for passengers from other Irish destinations (which would imply an Aer Arann link-up), the north of England and Scotland. Anything else and you're flying in the wrong direction.

They used to have them and used to have one obscenely early flight from Cork to Dublin (around 5:15am) specifically to feed passengers onto the early morning departures to European destinations.

I guess someone must have looked at the revenues and costs involved and decided it wasn't worth it.

Connections

EI offer lots of connections from short haul to long haul via DUB. Just check out the website to see you can book various connections on one ticket.

In their recent CARA inflight magazine they give info on how to transfer at Gatwick, so maybe they do intend offering connections on some services. As mentioned, offering connections to passengers from Knock could be interesting.

Aside: can we expect them to shortly announce the new routes for Gatwick they promised?

Are you mad? To get someone to fly LGW-DUB-BCN or LGW-DUB-FCO you would have to offer nigh-on a free flight. No one in their right mind in London and the SE would fly via DUB to anywhere but the USA (pretty much)

Connections on AerLingus

While Aer Lingus online themselves don't offer many connections, you only need to go via a travel agent or book with other online providers to get an interline ticket. Is this not true?

I did Dublin/Paris/Dubai/Sydney and i checked in at Dublin and never saw my bag until Sydney. I didnt book with Aer Lingus. Is it not possible to book a NOC LGW AGP ticket all in one via a travel agent.

As for comments why dont passenger do say LGW DUB FCO etc, i agree that is pure madness! With so many flights from the London area and with most markets served well from London why would anyone want to connect at Dublin, the time and geography of it doesn't make any sense at all.

Grrr

I have booked Buster and my family to Malaga from Gatwick and I can only assume my fare was a 'loss leader'! Thanks Aer Lingus!

The three new routes to Munich, Nice and Vienna started this morning out of Gatwick with a surprise Royal guest, well a dressed up one anyway from the look of it, and all caught on camera. Youtube

Just returning to an old topic.

Cork-Munich is now on sale for the Winter, so rumours of its scrapping seem unfounded.

Cork-Berlin is still not on sale, so that rumour may be more accurate.

Checking BFS for winter, still only LHR, TFS, ACE, AGP and MUC on sale.
Barcelona or Rome still not on sale, so like Cork - Berlin route, I wonder are these to be axed.

This will take BFS down to two based units...
