Low cost carrier Flybe, the main airline operating from Norwich Airport, said yesterday that it plans to launch a number of new destinations to France in the coming months. However, there are no plans to reinstate winter flights to Spanish destinations Malaga and Alicante from the airport.
Speaking as the airline announced record profits and plans to list on the stock market, chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said the French expansion plans followed the popularity of the daily flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle from Norwich, which started in February last year. Details of the new destinations will be announced at the end of the month.
Mr Rutter said: 'We are very happy with domestic and city routes out of Norwich and intend to build on this success. We are hoping to make an announcement on new routes in the next three weeks, including more French routes.'
He said the twice-daily flights to Manchester, which started in February 2006, had proved popular, along with flights to Edinburgh. However, he added that competition from rival Stansted meant winter flights to Malaga and Alicante are not viable from Norwich.

Are you dyslexic or do not know how to use spellcheck
though - not tough
also NWI - Belfast is just tying two routes together and not adding anything significant unless it is the same a/c that continues from Manchester and therefore the NWI pax remain in their seats

FLybe new acquisition?
Was reading a recent article which interviewed Mike Rutter about new routes etc, and the following was reported
Fresh from digesting BA Connect, bosses have told the Daily Echo they are now planning more acquisitions ahead of a forecast float in the next two years.
"What I don't rule out is us making any acquisitions. When we took over BA Connect we were saying if we do it again, now it's a case of when we do it again. It's a time of consolidation in the industry and we'd expect to play a role."
Any ideas who the next acquisition will be?

I don't think Flybe would be interested in operating the Scottish islands routes & therefore taking a step backwards to the days when as JEA they used top operate Twin Otters & Islanders. I would be very surprised if they bought Loganair. Maybe they are eyeing up a non British airline?

Jim French was interviewed on BBC Breakfast yesterday and hinted FlyBe would be opening up a non UK base in the future and suggested they may even acquire a continental European airline to do so.

There are two immediate aquisition targets and one 'wait till it drops' target.
BMI Regional and Eastern are for aquisition (145 Operators and J41 towards end ol lease) as they compete on Flybe routes. Euromanx will fold as it operates on routes but does not compete!

Well I have been away from work a while with illness - typical! Everything happens when I am not there.
I know Flybe did hint at French bases a while ago so who knows - I just hope that any more acquisitions go slightly more smoothly than the BAConnect one, operational wise.

For anyone interested, the next "series" of Flybe Dash 8 registrations will be in the G-ECOx range, starting with G-ECOA, to be delivered next month.
-JECZ is due for delivery this month (if it hasn't come already?).

Flybe could bid for Eastern, but do Richard Lake and Bryan Huxford want to sell? While money talks, there is no sign that Eastern is up for sale - J41 simulator at HUY, new colour scheme, plans to expand into Europe, more Saab's. None of that indicates a sale is likely, and especially not to BE who would ditch everything at HUY that a few million has been spent on, along with all the current T3 aircraft

bmi regional
Why on earth would bmi sell regional? It is a central part of the business, consistently profitable and doing very well on the routes where it competes with Flybe.

Would be very surprised if the company went for either of those carriers!
Loganair are a very small outfit in the Highlands and operating these routes with Q400s! Don't think so! Also, these routes are mainly PSOs and will REMAIN AS BA CODE-SHARES which means the routes will be operated by another carrier. Personally, I think that the Loganair is more BMI division.
Eastern Airways are a perfect airline for the UK oil trade. Obviously this has now expanded (i.e. MAN-STN, SOU-Angers etc.) but the airline offers business passengers a top quality service with high frequency routes that are quite expensive! BE offer quite afew flights per day on busy routes but offer cheaper fares on larger aircraft. Eastern passengers love travelling on the small aircraft as they are less crowded and therefore take less time to board and leave.
BE should be looking more at WOW and what about RE? EIRE is outside the UK (not mainland Europe though!)and there is no better way of getting into the regional routes in Ireland than taking over the regional carrier! This would be a major coup and would probably not go down well with the Irish but is very possible! Wenever expected BE's BACON take-over! (much)

Of course, there is also the possibility that someone would take over Flybe, especially after it gains a stock market listing

BA
Ah, but that was under previous management New BA management would have a focussed regional growth strategy supporting and feeding their longhaul network I'm sure they could find consultants to write them a report saying it makes perfect sense

However that would all depend on what percentage of shares are retained by the company. Selling less than 50% of the company would allow FlyBe to remain largely in control of itself.
I agree its more likely to be WOW or RE that would be potential takeover targets. EuroManx has been rumored to be one but FlyBe can set prices they cannot beat so why bother??
Outside of the UK what about other options like regional divisions of lufthansa etc.., Or possibly VLM?? Agian thats the same as eastern with the diffrent business market perspective...
