Why should they?
I don't know, but if there is one chance to save this Company all of us must do that.
About 85000 people will loose their job. This is crazy
I hope that the Union understand the situazion e try all to regain the negotiation.

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.

It doesnīt look like the pilots are about to change their minds. Anpac pilot union leader Berti says, some 300 AZ pilots have left the Cisl, Uil and Ugl unions and joined Anpac and Up pilot unions instead. Reason is, they disapprove of those unions having said "yes" to CAI investors.
Former AZ chairman Prato said when he resigned that "only an exorcist can save Alitalia". Seems he was right.

If the human race wishes to have a prolonged and indefinite period of material prosperity, they have only got to behave in a peaceful and helpful way toward one another.

You're not listening. I told you that I worked WITH Unions succesfully for many years. I have no problem with Unions and my Union guys had no problem with me or my Board. We all did well together, which is what it should all be about.
They're probably still busting their guts to pay the mortgage while the fat cat bosses spend their wealth.
I dunno, I just graduatd there this year, and landed myself quite a tidy sum here working with aerospace composites!!!!!
Given the state of the Aerospace industry....

It was not Prato, it was Air France's Spinatta, and this says everything to those who still insist in saying that Air France was a viable option to rescue Alitalia ! !

Am actually waiting now for Alitalia to go bust, for it to be all over the news. The last thing they need as people have pointed out, is Angry Italian Crew in New York for example. The best thing for them to do right now, is for them to say they are suspending all outbound flights from FCO right of this minute, but all passangers who are booked and crew that are scheduled to operate a Long Haul flight back to FCO will operate.
Then that way, everything is under one roof soo to speak and there are no stranded PAX in JFK or LHR for that matter. They also need to stop taking booking's for 2009, heak the brand Alitalia might not even exsist by then.
Time to let this airline go, sad to see and to say, but it is about time we let this one hit the ground.

Swiss firm says interested in 30 Alitalia planes
ROME, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Swiss investment company AMA Asset Management Advisor said on Monday it was interested in acquiring 30 planes from Alitalia to operate on routes between Italy and Eastern Europe.
The company said in a statement it had proposed buying at least half of Alitalia's fleet of 30 MD-82s and ATR-72s and renting the rest under a "wet lease" contract.
AMA said they would be used to operate passenger flights on at least 11 routes out of Milan's Malpensa airport and Rome's Fiumicino to destinations in the Balkans and Eastern Europe.........

Well, I googled it and several news organizations report it was Prato who said so. Here is just one link from April:

They, AF/KLM, wanted to help you guys, and AGAIN the italians and their unions were against it. Ok, thats your right, BUT donīt start complaining now the sh.t hits the fan!!!
Just admit that your italian "government" kept alitalia alive, over the last i donīt know how many years!
And where is berlusconi???????? with his so-called promises?????
Good luck to everybody!

Yes , you are right, Mr Prato said that, but his wording was also used later by Mr Spinetta, which confirm what I said before concerning the attitude of Air France on its involvement in Alitalia rescue.
Translating from the Italian newspaper 'La repubblica.it':
Alitalia, Air France resta fuori Spinetta: "Ci vuole l'esorcista" - economia - Repubblica.it
" For Alitalia we need an exorcist: Prato was right, it seems to me that there are no other way to rescue that company " .. said Mr Spinetta
ISTANBUL - "Per Alitalia ci vuole l'esorcista: aveva ragione l'ex presidente Maurizio Prato, sembra proprio che non ci siano altre strade per salvare quella compagnia". Parola di Jean-Cyril Spinetta, numero uno di Air France-Klm.

I am not complaining,
I want to be sure that you understand that, despite the desire of Alitalia's employees to be rescued by Air France, the same reasons that prevented C.A.I. to proceed with the acquisition were the same that prevented Air France to acquire the good assets of Alitalia.
For my point of view, I prefer to have Alitalia bankrupt, I am against a Government involvment.
Anyway , I am proud to be Italian

Great God, why shouldn't you be? The most harm that is being done results from the existing strong association of AZ with its "national" character and its burden of a "national" airline. These strong ties are causing its demise now (in spite of all the money pumped into it). And, if/when Alitalia ceases to exist, it will be considered as an end to a misfortunate "state" product. Hence, the very same association (the enterprise - state - nation) will, in reverse, elicit some very negative opinions about the Italian economy (government, trade unions). But not the Italians, hopefully.

Great food, great nature and great people (especially the simple ones), great hospitality and loads of style!
Just get rid of this dinosaur and if you can clean up your politics and the maffia (well on the way), but keep the rest!
