Watch now, the most reluctant members of the CAI will officially withdraw tomorrow and their money will be replaced by LH and/or BA.

Cone on, a debt free airline for 400M is a bargain, only thing Berslusconi want is a visible success, then any other detail is secondary.

Kremlin/Kretin Whatever

Wait, he told us what's for dinner, not the dessert
Yes but you'd be wasting your breath trying to explain this to such a cluless moron . But you're right, I don't sail alone. Even trying to explain where the Far East is to such a Luddite who still believes the world is flat is a waste of time.

Trying to explain to such a gentleman that making money for oneself and a lot of other people, in addition to paying substantial taxes to subsidise the unemployment cheques of the aforementioned folks might actually do some good, is beyond his comprehension. I also enjoy Marx, but prefer Graucho over Karl.

As I keeep saying, however, can we get back on topic: Alitalia. It could have been a going concern with fewer jobs and benefits tailored to the realities of the present global economic situation. But no, the Unions wanted all or nothing. And they got their wish. Responsible Unions and Union leadership, many of whom I have had the great privelige of working with over the years, have a responsibility to make pragmatic deals which are ultimately in the best interests of the most of their members. Adopting totally intransigent positions which throw ALL membership out of employment is simply irresponsible.

Sorry not to have responded more quickly to the imbecilic diatribes of our communist component but I had some satellite problems so was offline for a few days until putting into Bima.

This thread may be about Alitalia, but you and the other Right Wiong Nutjobs on it have twisted it into a global anti-union diatribe.
The unions are not responsible for the world economic meltdown that is destroying businesses - especially airlines - on a near daily basis. Your smoke screen is pathetic. You and your ilk are guilty of fraud on a massive scale. I hope your yacht sinks.

Isn't this getting a bit fanatical?

Don't think this is the right forum to argue (Note: not solving) world issues and political differences.

.

You can't read also. Neither I nor any of the other "Right wing nutters" are blaming the Unions for the world's woes. Please read my posts again. I have had a long and very happy association with UK Unions and have made a lot of money for many members of Unite. They like me.

Our problem is with irresponsible Union leadership that acts irrationally, emotionally even and without keeping the interests of the majority of membership in focus. Repeat: Alitalia could have remained a going concern but with fewer jobs and a business model more attuned to the realities of the global aviation business today.

Nobody is to blame for the failure of any business, aviation or otherwise, but a management, and yes a Union, structiure which has become a dinosaur and unable to react to the the realities of a global economy in constant change. Or actually, probably you have problems with globalisation also?

Next time you fly on your hols to Benidorm with RyanAir, you might want to reflect on this.

I'll be in a Singapore Airlines Sky Suite and I'll drink a glass of Dom for you.

Cheers.

Today, Thursday maybe the day..we will wait and see. (And I just wanted to bring this thread back to the top as the other one has gone way off topic)

BBC just reported that they may be grounded this afternoon if they cannot come up with a finance plan

La Repubblica reports that CAI investors have returned to the table, AF may take a minority stake of less than 25 % in CAI, and furthermore, four major unions have signed the CAI deal. However, 15 minutes later Mr. Epifani, leader of the CGIL union, said they have not signed anything. Pilot unions have not signed either. But, at least there is some eleventh hour action going on.

Get real gentlemen: Italy is a banana republic, run by a comedian in love with himself...Alitalia will NEVER go down, as he will do whatever is required, assured that the Itakians agree (after all, he's being re-elected over and over again by the same people he cheated on)

ENAC had previously warned that, without a deal on the table, the Italian airline risked losing its licence in days.
Actually, I do not think I'm surprised. The only thing I might want to know is where the money for fuel are coming from right now (as there was nothing more left). From uncle Silvio perhaps?

It will be ceded to the "bad part" of Alitalia that will be liquidated. Very simple, ingenious and so deceptive...

Did anyone really expect them to go down? Hard to believe that an educated community like us aviation professionals can be that far removed from reality!

Let me say it again for those that still believe in "market forces": Alitalia will NEVER go down, no matter how much money they burn, or how many strikes they stage...after all, they are "the pride if Italy"

Here goes then. ALITALIA is saved!!!! The unions have relented.

Apparently Augusto Fantozzi, the government-appointed special commissioner who has been running Alitalia since it entered bankruptcy protection in August, said he had asked ENAC, Italy’s civil aviation authority, not to carry out its threat to suspend Alitalia’s licence. He said there were sufficient funds to keep the airline flying until the end of the month, but did not state where these funds had come from. Certainly not from revenues!!

The new Alitalia is expected to commence operations in mid-October.
When ALITALIA merges with Air One it will have a total of 12,500 employees. Around 3,000 jobs will be lost at AZ.

Whatever it cost I'm sure it was less than the 700 Billion coughed up to bail out Capitalism tonight. Better value for the taxpayers too.
