Whats the logic behind apron putting card reader things (RFID based I assume) on their GPUs so everyone has to wait for a ramp agent to turn up to get power on an aircraft! Did the GPU Gestapo dude have his wicked way then, he now single-handedly controls all of the airports' GPUs, muhahaha.

It is gradualy being fitted on all of Aviance equipment at Cardiff, this is obviosuly so big bro can keep an eye on who's not been reporting equipment deffects or possible damage to equipment.

That's a substantial load on the Anglesey flights. Assuming, as seems reasonable, that the route has traffic generation biased from the Anglesey end it would seem to indicate that the morning flights down to Cardiff and the evening flights back must be mostly full, particularly Monday down and Thursday/Friday back.

It is normally difficult to get anywhere near 75% overall load factor long-term on a business-oriented route, as opposed to an IT to Palma, as your best paying passengers in this market are the last minute ones who will eventually go elsewhere if they find they can't get a seat when they need one. Also they all tend to want to travel at the same time. Highland should be thinking of putting their ATR on the route with such figures, assuming all are revenue. Not certain how much they have their hands tied commercially with the arrangement with the Welsh Assembly.

Flybe to EDI and NCL

By the looks of it, all Flybe flights to EDI and NCL are to be operated on the EM4. I would have thought the DH8 would have been a cheaper option for them. I wonder how long this is planned for, as the EM4 didn't last that long on the BHD and CDG.

Cheaper.....definately, available.....unlikely just yet. Flybe have cancelled their EDICDG service which was operated using the 145. With this in mind they have crew in EDI to fly this aircraft and so I guess they will use this in the short term until the fleet renewal programme sees this become a Q400.

The sooner they bring the DH8 on the route the better.

The red and white boards seem to be some kind of advertisment or publicity stunt as they seem to have writing on them etc. one was similar to "Wales is 23% national park and only 1.274347 airport" or something similar. Another says "Hello in welsh is helo so helo" I'm not sure if this is part of the EYE that has been introduced at CWL.

I have noticed that the bolders have been removed from the front of the terminal, what are they planning to do as im sure their not going to re-open the old bus lane. It would be nice if they turned it into a green area (grass and flowers).

In the summer it looks like the first thing in the morning is going to be hell.

Between 0600 and 0800 there will be 8 departures on weekdays with a/c types such as 4 x 733, 2 X 757, 1 X A321 and 1 x F-100. Add the A330 on the thursdays for the SFB.

The ribbons are part of a Welsh Assembly Government project to give a "sense of Wales" as you arrive at the airport. Projects are also planned for the Severn Bridge area and somewhere in North Wales too, I understand.

Anyone else heard the news that Highland Airways have bought or are in the process of buying J41's - not sure if these will be used ex CWL, be a good idea with the excellent load factors being experienced. Would a J41 be better than an ATR ?

Have also heard that Skybus will be operating on from NQY to ISC (Scilly Isles), so will this be a new destination for CWL ?? Same aircraft operating the NQY-ISC sector

Where does Welsh business want to go?

Major survey of executives' travel needs
In the biggest-ever co-operative campaign between business organisations in Wales, the nation's executives are being asked: " If you COULD fly from Cardiff, where WOULD you go?"
The resulting data is hoped to be the most comprehensive and accurate regional information ever presented to the world's airlines about the travel requirements of Wales' business community.
Twelve leading business organisations are involved:

  • Cardiff Breakfast Club
  • Cardiff International Airport,
  • CBI Wales,
  • Institute of Directors Wales,
  • International Business Wales,
  • Business In Focus,
  • NGB2B
  • Swansea Futures,
  • Vale Business Club

  • Western Mail
The mainly on-line campaign will ask business travellers to identify themselves and answer a short survey about their air travel habits. Executives who have completed the survey will be kept up-to-date on the results and the emergence of new routes and schedules achieved from the project.
Data from the survey will be presented to airline decision-makers at a special route-planning conference in Porto, Portugal, in May.
Bill Savage, chairman of Cardiff & Co, said: "As a regional economy in a dynamic global environment, Wales must take action to strengthen the competitive position of its businesses. Establishing a good choice of business-friendly air routes and schedules from our capital's airport is central to this."*
Peter Phillips, Cardiff International Airport's Head of Marketing and Communications stressed: "Typically, when airlines seek to strengthen existing or establish new routes, they need hard and fast data before considering the commitment of aircraft and personnel. This massive co-operation exercise is the best chance for getting that evidence that we have ever had."

I see in the system that LS are operating a flight from CWL to LUX, can anyone shed some light on this one, it's only showing as a one off flight?

Is anybody else concerned regarding the check-in space during the summer in the mornings?

with Tom 2 x 757, 1 x 737-300, TCX A321, KLM F100, BmiBaby 3 x 737-300 i'm sure it will be very tight again this year. But the thursdays have an extra A330 to cram in along with it. Plus the proposed extra 737-300 due in June, are there really going to be enough check-in desks?

There will be stands to spare for theese extra 3 but i'm sure CWL will require extra busses as we going to struggle with all these domestic arrivals.

Let us reiterate that which has been said many times. FFB will not be allowed to use PPRuNe for any announcements or indications of intent or whatsoever they make claims to.

It was FFB's own request to quell the growth of information, or to put it more directly, mis-information, that led us to take this action. The action they were seeking. It has to be said that we ourselves were getting just as fed up with the petty drivel and puerile chatter that was being conducted here and decided that FFB would be denied access to PPRuNe.

That position has not changed. Until and if, FFB gets an AOC and a purposeful operation under way will mention of FFB be allowed. Until then - NO!

Airport MD announced

TBI has announced today that Cardiff International Airport's new Managing Director will be Patrick Duffy.
And also Eastern is increasing NCL from twice to thrice daily in summer, probably in response to flybe launching a route from the airport.
