That is some planning unless it's the same aircraft we almost had earlier in the week with a defect.
If it's that bad then we maybe likely to see either more BA aircraft or possibly other airlines from our friends at BRS

BA do a lot of pre-planning when the weather is forecast to be bad. Most times it is a false alarm however with limited space available it's first come first serve.
Using it as an excuse to divert a plane in for maintenance then i doubt it unless they are projecting reduced flow rates for arrivals into heathrow and they make an advanced decision on which ones that may need to be sacrificed.

FR & CWL
Now, here's an arguement waiting to happen:
1. FR never use CWL as a diversion due to ancient history...
2. BHX is [almost] equidistant to BOH to divert to, so why CWL?
3. Get over it: CWL+BRS are convenient for each other diverts - simple!
p.s. Probably, the fuel uplift at Venice [Treviso] wasn't enough to; (a) cirlce @ BRS; (b) divert to an airfield further away.
...less negativity. Thanks!

Last winter CWL also seen a lone divert of a Stanstead or Luton based Ryanair aircraft. I believe that CWL is not a preffered alternate for Ryanair however it is still used occasionally as demonstrated last night.
There maybe an added factor of wx conditions at BOH possibly worse than CWL providing a better option or could it be one of the ex CWL based WW captains who are more familiar with the CWL facilities.
Same can be said on the 2 x Flybe diverts into BRS rather than CWL as has happened in the past but in all fairness if technical assistance is required then EXT is closer for the engineers.

FR always divert to a base where possible as you don't have to make ad hoc arrangements with handlers and engineers. You also have crews on standby to reposition the aircraft when you can. FR don't use CWL if they can use BHX or BOH for that reason and nothing to do with history.
CWL is not listed as a div on FR flight plans but I know the BRS guys always keep CWL in the back pocket as a bolt hole as BHX has a pretty poor fog record and BOH base is shut in fog season so there is a good chance you might get the odd BRS divert especially with an easterly wind !
It's not political it's operational.

You should have persuaded them to stick around and send a couple more aircraft over! Cardiff really need to get Ryanair back, I know people will say that they wouldn't compete with themselves and take passengers away from Bristol but I dont think this would be true. With a couple of well managed routes Ryanair could expand their passenger catchment area by having 2 aircraft based at Cardiff, the demand is here! All it needs is a bit of planning and for the airport marketing team to strike a good deal. They need to think of the extra income they would get with people spending money in the airport at the bar and overpriced food facilities.
I am fed up for seeing adverts to fly with Ryanair at Bristol, it is time for a change! BRING RYANAIR BACK TO CARDIFF!

I would be dissapointed if Blue Island win the contract.
Manx2 have provided an excellent service, punctual reliable and crew are excellent.
Not only that but Manx2 have made comments in the past that providing they are succesful in winning the 4 year contract then we are likely to see more routes from Cardiff and not just CWL-VLY.
If it's not broke don't fix it as passengers don't like change.
Worse of all leaving it this late won't provide any airline with advanced bookings as the last flight is 10th of December.
