well the 343 or any 340 wont do it, those four hairdryers need another 2000ft of usable runway to lift that lump off, but they can easily take off well below fuel weight and stop off at CDG or BRU etc to top up.

Any more rumours on any one else, and btw how is parking space looking for heavys?

Didnt want to pass without saying how much I love this airport, the area and the people, having operated several charters in there a few years ago and flying light aircraft in there around 30 years ago.

I remember just after the new(!) terminal was built everyone said what a waste of money it was and it would be never used(XXXXXXX)

Cardiff was in fact the only airfield in the UK that actually built an airport for the future not the present!!!

Good luck to all of you and a very happy new year and safe flying for 2008

I heard that the airport is willing to use every single spacer available along with using taxiways Echo and Golf.

I think it's it's possible to fit 3 x 747 on Echo and 3 x 747 on Golf, 1 x 747 on 6 and is it the A340 or A300 size a/c is the max size a/c for stand 7?

Problem is lack of equipment, it will be interesting to see what BA wants to do as CWL is a diversion airport for Heathrow.

Looking at the FIDs and theres only showing one Zoom flight from CWL at the moment and that is to JFK.

Talks have started up again today with the request by BAA, theres still time before the fat lady sings.

A340 is much longer than the A300 and A330.
Max size a/c for stand 7 is 767, A330 or DC10

On Zoom's site :
For services to/from Gatwick, we expect to operate flights to their original schedule, but arriving and departing at Cardiff instead of Gatwick. [Other airports in the London area including Heathrow and Stansted will also be affected by the strike and so will also be closed.] We will be providing coach transfers for customers between Gatwick and Cardiff to meet the flights’ arrival and departure check-in times.
I'm surprised theres been no announcements from the charters at STN and LGW. TOM/FCA/TCX/MYT/XLA all have an extensive operation more so at LGW including majority of long haul for winter.

Be interesting to see how these days go if the airport is allowing as much traffic as possible. With 1 or 2 decent high loaders for all these heavies?
Enough steps big enough to allow access to 747/A340?
3 buses with probably one driver?
A baggage belt that cant cope with a few 757's and 737's

Cardiff International Airport is one of the only 21 airports that is apporved by the DFT to accept more than 1 item of hand luggage once the rule is lifted on 7th Jan 2008. This is depends on airlines individual operational policies regarding the ammount of hand luggage per person is allowed.

When did CWL purchase these advanced screening devices required? I am very suprised consider their rivals BRS doesn't yet have these devices and neither does CWL's sister airport STN.

Nice to see CWL being ahead of the game for once!

RSB Six Nations 08

Can't be long new until the Six Nations, what charters are we expecting at CWL? I know that BmiBaby are operating 5 flights on the friday and Sunday of the Wales V Scotland match.

There is no use in copying and pasting a foreign article on a UK airport thread unless it accompanies an English translation.

The Airline listed for flights to Cardiff has been banned from the forum untill it's AOC has been approved.

However i am willing to receive your info via private message.

Emirates to CWL?

Just browsing through the net and found that EK are holding an open day for cabin crew recruitment in Cardiff ( Don't EK normally recruit from the areas that they are going to operate to? Hopefully this will be a good sign that EK will come to CWL.

You never know!

There is no other airport in the SW that can take the A332 to DXB. They have flights to all areas of the UK except NI (not much chance) and SW which is quite a large district and as we have seen on the BRS thread, there are alot of people using connections on the continent to the middle/far East instead of travelling to Heathrow.

Never say never, but I cannot see it until at least late 2009.

What about EXT? They could handle it. We used to have B747's in for storage. If EK go into CWL they will fail! Sorry to be blunt, but they will. They are struggling to keep the bread and butter flights going let alone new flagship carriers.

EK have held a few recruitment days in Cardiff before.
Long haul crew will travel quite a distance to their designated airport.
LHR/BHX is only a 2 hr drive from South Wales, and is fine if you only do one flight a wk.
Cant see anything coming of this (as usual!)

Unfortunately there are always some who clutch at straws when it comes to Cardiff and it is so easy to start rumours up regarding the airport. We would laugh when for example Easy Jet would divert to Cardiff from Bristol and await the " are Easy to be based at Cardiff" type posts.
Airlines recruit in larger cities all the time it doesn't mean that a service is to start up. That doesn't however mean that they wont start a service up either and contrary to Birdscarers remarks Cardiff isn't an Elephants Graveyard and the future may be quite rosy.
