Uncle Monty
What do you mean - they're living in a camper van?

Is this a wind up?

Great question for a local journo to ask though...

Whoosh's ATR-42 had gone tech, last I heard. They were using an Eastern Saab 2000 the other day, maybe thats changed, and it has had to be cancelled.

From the WEA website:

Suspension of flights in Dundee.

Due to economic reasons WEA has decided to suspend until further notice flights to Birmingham and Belfast as of 6.12.2007. All passegners with tickets purchased should contact Flywhoosh representatives for refund. WEA advises strongly not to purchase any tickets directly from Flywhoosh.COM under WEA call sign.
Not sure what this means. I thought WEA are Flywhoosh, so the advice not to buy tickets from flywhoosh.com is a bit bizarre. Does it mean they are unable to pull the plug of the booking engine?

WEA don't run the booking engine, Flywhoosh do (aka Aden Murcutt / Bluearrow / Govisit). They simply collect the fares and charter the flight service from WEA.

However, the contract seems to be with WEA, with "Flywhoosh" simply acting as a marketing organization (i.e. not chartering the aircraft, but simply selling tickets on WEA's behalf):

White Eagle Aviation S.A. have stopped delivering their services between Dundee / Belfast and Dundee / Birmingham.

Any claims for refunds or compensation for tickets for travel up to and including Dec 21st should be addressed to White Eagle Aviation at their head office in Warsaw, address below.

However, in order to honour as many ticket sales as possible, we are in advanced discussion with a new flight provider to fly these routes from Monday Dec 17th 2007.

Specific confirmation of these developments will be posted on this website by Thursday Dec 13th with details of the carrier. Untill this confirmation is specific we will be unable to take any further bookings.

I heard an ad for BMI on CoolFM this evening, promoting a new £26 single, all in Bhd to Lhr. It has a 28 day advance booking requirement and is only available for flights after 14 Jan 08 ?. Major date. This could either be a move to protect or else they are now seeing Ei make an impact. I think if they were not seeing an impact by Ei, why would you spend the money and offer fares at this level. I think this shows that Bd are seeing an impact from Ei.

There's nothing new about a £26 single fare from bmi, they've had that as the base price for years.

Finding any availability at that level is a different matter though!

Aer Lingus Arrival

I just heard that the first Aer Lingus Airbus A320 for the new base at Belfast International will arrive on a positioning flight from Dublin tomorrow Sunday at 1600.

Just to let those who are interested know!!

Will be nice to see EI around the place.

Well one of EI's latest machines EI-DVE, arrived into BFS around 1630 today for the start of their operations tomorrow. Anyone know if she will get the airbridge treatment of stand 22?

Is Belfast International Airport only left with one airbridge at gate 22? From what I remember it used to have 3 airbridges when the airport was nowhere near as busy as it is now! (one at BA's gate 9, and one at bmi's gate 18). Of course none of those airlines fly out of Aldergrove anymore, but now that the airport is certainly more "international" than in used to be it doesn't make sense to just have one. Maybe its just that low cost airlines can't be bothered to pay the airport to use them, but does anyone really know why?

Low cost airlines also big on steps (front and back) where possible as they speed up boarding.

Yes there's only 1 airbridge left at BFS! There used to be a Total of 4 at Gates 9/18/22/27 but with the withdrawal of BA/BMI/SN/KL these have been greatly reduced as the low-cost operators would rather not use them.

However Jet2 have used the airbridge in the past. One of nightstopping EI's will prob get the airbridge at 22. Although it would be nice for the old BMI airbridge thats sitting down at Delta Apron to be put back into action for Aer Lingus's LHR route.

Low-costs don't use airbridges as a rule. EZY occasionally do at some airports, usually abroad, but it slows up the boarding as it is policy not to use the backsteps with an airbridge. Nothing to do with being bothered - it's economics!

We have lift off

Interesting article to go out in todays Belfast Telegraph. With rumours of poor forward sales and potentially not the response Aer Lingus had hoped for, Dermot Mannion, stated that he expected the airline to exceed its target of 500,000 passengers at BFS in the first year!! Maybe forward bookings and sales are pretty rosy.
