Mainline will fight tooth and nail to get this or retain this dependant on your view. BACX CC I spoke too said that they would not operate it, but if it is to make monies and FC are to retain recency it may have to be a CX operation, might that also lead to an Airbus replacment for the RJs?

BA and BALPA are currently in negotiations to decide who amongst the mainline community will be the 'lucky' ones!

I see that BA sales teams' members have received awards for, amongst other things, "fare class realignment" and "flight class realignment". Is there anyone reading this who knows what "fare class realignment" and "flight class realignment" are? Just curious! Thanks in advance.

... Going on from BA Mainline 'operating' LCY-JFK etc... Isnt BACityFlyer really, just a form of 'openskies'.
Think about it. All the fun of the BA fair, except crewed by NON BA Mainline crew, and on LESS money - BUT offering the expected BA product. These crews in effect are BA crews.
Cant wait for the expiry next year of the BACityFlyer scope-clause agreement... Its gonna be very interesting.
WHY SHOULDNT BACF CREWS ENJOY BA MAINLINE SENIORITY

Too mean to buy a long personal title
Also, apparently it's undecided whether the current Club World seat will go in, or something designed specifically for this service. Other things like whether lounge access is needed at LCY are also under consideration, given that minimum check-in time will be 15 minutes.

Fare class realignment happened last November. BA dropped some booking classes from economy and moved them into Club and WTP+. For example, the class hierarchy in Club fares now runs J C D R I, with R being the added class. This allows BA to set an intermediate fare between I and D. My guess is that they've reduced the number of seats sold in I and pushed some into R, thereby increasing revenue. Similar change in WTP where the hierarchy now runs W E T, where E is the additional booking class. There were then some changes in economy which preserved the same number of price points.

Ba-iberia Merger Talks
Iberia merger talks
British Airways and Iberia are holding talks with a view to an all-share merger between the two companies. The negotiations are supported unanimously by the boards of both companies.
The British Airways and Iberia brands would be retained as part of a combined group.
Iberia's chairman and chief executive, Fernando Conte, said: "A merger would be good news for our customers and enhance our existing relationship. We've worked together for nearly 10 years and a tie-up would build on that success. It would also strengthen the oneworld alliance and further develop Madrid's position as the European gateway to Latin America".
British Airways' chief executive, Willie Walsh, said: "The aviation landscape is changing and airline consolidation is long overdue. The combined balance sheet, anticipated synergies and network fit between the airlines make a merger an attractive proposition, particularly in the current economic environment. We've had a successful relationship with Iberia for a decade and are confident that both companies' shareholders would benefit from the proposed tie-up".
British Airways acquired a nine per cent shareholding in Iberia in 1999 and has recently increased its shareholding to 13.15 per cent. Iberia has announced today that it has recently acquired a 2.99 per cent direct shareholding in British Airways and financial exposure to a further 6.99 per cent through contracts for difference linked to British Airways' share price. The airlines' shareholdings reinforce the mutual interest of both companies in each other.
It is expected that it will take several months to reach agreement on the terms of the merger and to finalise a joint business and integration plan for the combined group.
Both parties are confident of securing regulatory approval. The European Union has already granted British Airways and Iberia approval to co-operate widely.

This would really shake up the West bound traffic.
Does anybody know where this would put the airline on size across the variables (ie income, destinations served etc?)
Cheers.
P.S. Good luck to both airlines!

BA to announce Saudi Arabia
Rumours going around about an annonucement tomorrow about BA route changes, some new and some stopping, but one of the more interesting ones is the rumour that Saudi Arabia will be on the list of new markets after BA abandonded the market in 2005 due to crews forcing the service to go via Kuwait.
Has anyone heard anything on this? Rumours are on Jeddah, but could it be Riyadh also? Surley BMI have got a strangel hold on this market already with Saudia? Can't be big enough for three carriers surley?
Anyone heard anything?

Not Heard anything,
I assumed the route licences were taken by BMI after BA pulled out? Surely any new bi-lateral agreements would means Saudia asking for new slots at heathrow, manchester and maybe BHX?
If it is true it would be welcomed relief as the upcoming Hajj Season always produces excessivly high fares.
****
I hasten to add, having spoken to a key consolidator to Saudia? its true BA are looking to recommence in october '08.

BA has ordered 6 777-300ERs with options for 4 more. The aircraft is 23% more fuel efficient than the 744. They'll offer greater flexibility for in the long-haul fleet following delays of the 787s.

The cesation of services to SA were also caused by the continued failure in security and safety issues with regard to the GHA & and airport authority. At the time and I would be interested to know from a BMI threader the SA's would not recognise any failings of any of their systems or procedures. What has changed?

BA are dropping capacity at LGW, as predicted. Dropping Newquay, Dresden, Poznan and Sarajevo. Previously announced Valencia and Porto are not ever going to see their first flight and the start date of Hyderbad is delayed until December 6 now.
It seems the future of BA is at Heathrow! The dropped routes seemed to be a few of the 'original' destinations they fly. BA can obviosly only make money in the very largest business-centres of Europe.

From BA staff website
Capacity will reduce by 6.4 per cent against the original plan. The majority of the winter capacity reductions are to the airline’s shorthaul network — including the suspension of four destinations from Gatwick — while the number of flights to some longhaul routes will also be reduced.
The four Gatwick shorthaul services to be suspended from October 26 are: Poznan, Sarajevo, Dresden and Newquay. New Gatwick routes to Valencia and Porto, which were planned to launch in October, will no longer start. Services to Hyderabad have been delayed until December 6.
On the face of it these cuts represent very little savings in real terms and maybe the calm before a blizzard..

BA Executives charged
LONDON — The UK’s Office of Fair Trading (OFT) said four current and former British Airways executives were charged yesterday in connection with its inquiry into fuel surcharge price fixing.
The OFT named the four as Martin George, BA’s former commercial director, Andrew Crawley, its head of sales, Iain Burns, its former head of corporate communications, and Alan Burnett, the airline’s former head of UK and Ireland sales.
Have just read this on the "Business Day" South Africa. If this is old news my apologies.
