Mk Airlines Ltd

MK now have 5 Boeing 747s UK Registered. It will be interesting to see them as regular visitors at MSE. Another visitor yesterday and today was an AN12 of Aerovis Airlines, an Ukrainian cargo charter company.

Atlanta back at Manston

Seems that Infratil are getting back all of Manston's old customers. Atlanta Airways now has a line station facility alongside the terminal building, second 747 within a month is currently in having an engine change and general tart-up

Please don't think I'm being picky but I am not sure what you meant by Atlanta and "line station facility". I understand from a previous life that a line station is an operational facility as opposed to a maintenance base. Can you be more specific?
There is an obvious difference in that an operations facility would infer regular revenue sorties whilst a maintenance facility would not.

While I think its unlikely Manston will get them, the CEO of Air Asia X has said they have been in talks with KIA in this magazine from the last Routes conference at the end of September

To explain, this is from http://www.airways.ch/files/2003/060...airatlanta.htm

A line maintenance station has been established in Manston, UK, where light maintenance can be performed. Air Atlanta Icelandic did also set up a centralised warehouse facility for its stock of spare parts in 1999 at the former military airport, which is the location of the company's largest permanent facility outside of Iceland.

Air Atlanta had pulled out (or were forced out) of Manston prior to the start of EUjet services. Not sure what happened to the spare parts warehouse but they have now returned and, as I mentioned in my previous post, are operating out of portakabins alongside the terminal and currently carrying out maintenance on one of their 747s. To me it seems like another sign that things are on the up.

Air Atlanta/Avia Services

Air Atlanta/Avia Services have had a facility at Manston for several years. They were originally based in the original passenger terminal (which is now empty) near the NHS offices, for a long time. The warehouse and workshops are now at the ATS Centre on the industrial park near the end of the runway. This is a massive facility that ships parts and equipment all over Europe for their fleet.
The line station facility is currently in the old Eujet engineering portakabin and has been for a long time. Maybe you never noticed it.

Thank you for putting me straight on that one. I haven't noticed them carrying out any maintenance at Manston though for a long, long time until recently.

It's just my opinion, of course, but as every week goes by, the sycophants look less and less credible.

Oh dear. Never mind you'll have some nice holiday destinations to choose from before long, will you be flying from Manston next year?

Please explain what you and catflaps, want from the airport in terms of flights.
Clearly cargo is inproving, I understand for passenger flights, talks are ongoing. (that what a poster said on this forum).
What would you like to see happen at Kent International ?.

Jes-

I note that you have deleted at least one of your previous posts.

I note that another has been deleted which puts the thread out of sequence.

Could I respectfully request people refrain from this.

If Manston promoters are are making outlandish predictions which they later regret, it would be more honourable simply to say "I regret my earlier comments, rather than try to erase the past.

Or is it the case that these posts are being deleted by the moderators?

If so, why?

I have not deleted any of my posts for many months; it was the mods.

Perhaps the Mods are getting a bit hacked off by some of the postings? I know that I am interested in the fortunes of a small regional airport attempting to make a go of it whether it by the cargo route and/or via PAX but I am certainly not interested in exaggerated claims based on very little evidence nor am I interested in the even worse sarcasm and childish comments that appear to be designed only to inflame.

Can we keep the postings as factual and informative as possible? Lets not get carried away and certainly lets refrain from pathetic sarcasm and infantile commentry.

Would it be possible for someone to highlight the exact situation regards cargo and PAX. What regular services are there and by whom? Also what exactly is happening re on-site aircraft maintainance, GA and Biz Jet activity at MSE?

Having followed the fortunes (highs and lows) of PIK I am intrested in what Infrantil are attempting to do at MSE but until I get an accurate picture it is difficult to follow. Sensible and factual postings only please.

Others can give you a more detailed picture, but I shall attempt an overview.

Established activities .....

Maintainance - Air Atlanta -Appeared busier in earlier years, with as many as 12 x 747 on site on some occasions. Less A/C now, but still here.

TG aviation - Light A/C flying school and flying club (I think!)

Pax - Nothing to speak of at the minute, but next year Newmarket hoping to shift maybe 1600 bodies to various European destinations on 10 return flights.

All the above might be described as the "legitimate" activity at MSE. Well established and probably paying close to the correct rate for the facilities.

Speculative and/or "subsidised" by discounts or financial underwriting.......

Cargo - The last concrete information was that MK airlines were heavily discounted. No information as to whether or not this is still the case, or whether this applies to other operators. They are currently using the airport more or less daily. Tend to come and go in a fairly unpredictable way. Cargolux once a week, Egyptair coming and going, but here more than once a week at the moment, AIA sometimes. Quite a wide variety of other cargo types on an occasional basis.

Pax - Kent Escapes charters just finished for the year. Service not attracting the level of business many of us expected - hence cancellations and cuts.
So far, next year, looks like 2 Summer destinations with a reduced service, (maybe 13 flights???) with talk of some Winter activity. Many of us believe this may have been a service subsidised/discounted by the airport.

Scheduled - Airport hinting at something next season. Perhaps some of the "subsidy" fund being transferred here hence Kent Escape cuts? One can only speculate.

Bizjets - No idea - You'll have to ask someone else.

Training - Netjets and Oasis use MSE more than most, and others on an ad-hoc basis, although sadly I am informed this isn't much of an earner.

Maintainance - Summit aviation opening small engine overhaul facility next year. I believe this is moving from Broadstairs to Manston business park. Not strictly an airport activity, but I include it. If Manston Airport did close, it is to be hoped this business could continue.

Gone bust - Das Air maintainance, Modern Jet Support, Eujet(in case you didn't know!!)

All of the above is subject to correction of detail by those who know more than I, although I believe the overview to be about right.
