Grrr

I have a fair knowledge of the plans for the Olympic Games. There will be lots of additional flights, Luton will be rather busy in the lead up, during the games and then for a few days after the closing ceremony, as will all London airports.

Add into the equation the security of the games, the participants and visitors plus the 'lock down' of the FIR, then you have a rather interesting month from mid July until mid August.

No doubt an increase in security will be visible at Luton and elsewhere, so beware!

BMI

Departures show Trieste so could it be Arsenal FC?

They are playing Udinese tomorrow and Trieste doesn't look that far away.

Looks like the Airport Authority are working with the Luton Council to sort out once and for all the road network in the CTA. This should result in the removal of the crossover of traffic that enters and leaves the drop off area. Work hopefully will start on the new road layout in the New Year.
Has not work started today??

This is what the airport wrote on August 8th so I would say no:

We are actively working with Luton Borough Council on road improvements and with transportation professionals to resolve the crossover of traffic entering the Central Terminal Area and are hopeful that we will have an agreed design which can be delivered early next year.

Looks like there will be a temporary fix in place soon routing the departing cars around the short stay car park - can't really see how it will help though as the queue will still back up onto the old roundabout regardless of the exit route.

Should make a big difference if cars leaving don't have to cross the path of cars arriving. Then those traffic lights won't be needed.

For me, there is an easy solution to the crossover. Go into the drop off area where you currently come out and you come out where you currently go in. Would take such a small amount of work to move the barriers to the other end of the drop off zone…

Don’t think it would work if they simply reversed the flow into the drop off area as too many drivers would try to follow taxis and delivery lorries into restricted areas if they shared a common exit point off the roundabout.

Thought the short term car park was to become aircraft stands one day? Maybe it still will but not a six pack but only a two or four pack initially.

The big plan was to put in a pier similar to the pier that separates the east and north aprons. The new pier would split, with one part serving the other side of the eastern apron together with one side of the new apron that was to be built in the short term car park. At the split the pier would have continued all the way down to the south stands, which is used by Ocean Sky, bringing that back into airline use. The other side of the pier serving the south stands would have also served the far side of the new short term car park apron.

The drop off area was going to be moved to the other side of the bridge by the fire station. From there passengers would enter a reception building before being transported to the terminal in something better than a bus.

It might all happen one day but not before the terminal is extended southwards. The terminal is of modular construction so can be extended without too many problems.
