More Ryanair?
I gather that the airline can base more aircraft at Luton but they have to pay the going rate as they got a deal with the airport to base four aircraft there. Also you will notice that on certain days in November and early December some of their flights do not operate to Nimes, etc. guessing that this is due to the 900 hour flight deck rule. I suppose they will come up with some other excuse!
I would think the airport authorities are reasonably happy at the moment with the number of new services being operated this winter but they must not rest on their laurels.

A couple of years ago, MOL was reported in saying that he would like to see 7/8 based aircraft at LTN but doubted it would go much higher. Since then, many things have changed, and as Buster previously stated, the airport is not keen to offer big incentives to the likes of ryanair. Maybe a fifth aircraft but I doubt it. Having said that two additional based easyjet's are rumoured for LTN during 2008. Again, may or may not happen, but a lot more likely that 2 ryans.

I thought you chaps (& chapesses?) might like a real-world report of our annual family trek through LTN. The family has been using the airport since 1961 when some of us took the Derby Airways DC3 to Guernsey!
Arrived by taxi at 0500 for the Monday MON flight to Mahon. Amazing to be stuck in a slow-moving traffic jam at this time, but I guess it must be like this most mornings now.
Checked in right away, first in the queue. Took about 4 minutes to check in four of us. Well done Monarch.
Despite hundreds of pax passing through security for dozens of departures, the whole process only took about 10 minutes in total. No hassle at all.
Plenty of choice for a caffeine shot before going to the gate. Friendly quick service, very acceptable coffee and food.
Only a short wait at the gate, boarded and departed on time.
The return MON flight 2 weeks later was equally pleasant. MON really do have a superior prodect, I rate them much better than BA in all departments including the food (not forgetting the good looking gals who actually smile!)
Arrived on time at LTN despite a very convoluted arrival procedure (I think we went all the way to Barkway and back, plus a lot of radar vectoring on to the ILS), taxied right to stand and deplaned promptly.
The only problem on arrival was the very long queue for immigration control, slowly shuffling along. Several other flights had arrived around the same time (about 1300), and pax were pushing in to the queue from the opposite direction, which caused a few angry remarks from people whom had already been queuing for some time. I relaise that 1200 to 1330 is a peak arrival period, but this rather shambolic arrangement needs looking in to.
Baggage arrived promptly, and we were in our taxi on the way home about 30 minutes after arrival. Pity about the grotty pavement area immediately outside the terminal. Can't the airport owners (after all they're Spanish) copy some of the beautiful airports in Spain and put down some decent paving?
Not a bad experience by any means, 8/10 for the overall experience I would say.

Thomson consolidation
Looks like the Jersey and Prague services from Luton are going to cease in November followed by Marrakech in January. The consolidation of the First Choice/Thomson Fly fleet seems to be gathering pace. All non-core schedules are said to be under threat, which means that destinations which do not take Thomson/First Choice customers could well be axed. Coventry and Bournemouth must be very worried. Regarding the Luton flights only Jersey seems to be the one which will have no operator – I wonder if Flybe will poick up the cudgel in the spring?

Shame about Jersey. This is a route that seems to come and go over the years. Thomsom however, seem to have generated a sizeable market from Luton, carrying some 6500 pax a month to/from the island, throughout the summer months. With Flybe picking up the IOM, maybe they might come back on the JER, again!!
Prague will actually increase, with SkyEurope offering a daily schedule, as opposed to Thomsons original 4 x weekly.
RAK is served by ryanair, 4 x weekly, but strangely enough, it is still bookable with Thomsonfly in OCT 08. Sure this will be deleted soon though.

Isn't it about time the travelling public rebelled against which ever government department is responsable for manning levels at Passport Control at all our airports 
Although I know American airports are just as bad, if not worse
through out the rest of Europe you always seem to sail through passport control what ever the time of day.
Perhaps the airports could join together and start a advertising campaign, pointing out it's not their fault for the long queues, and telling people to write to their MP's to pull their fingers out and SORT IT

Compton3Bravo, nothing to do with LTN myself but the airport at NIMES is closed from 15th October for over a month due to runway resurfacing - nothing to do with Ryanair, sorry to disappoint.

it was 1969 - a regular PMI rotation ex LTN, thouh I thought that was Saturday. A/c postioned in before and out afterward!
Not a great performer the Trident 1E- used most of LTN's runway on departure and the real thrill, deployed thrust reverser before landing.
Can't imagine an A319/320 doing that today!

I understand that the entire Thomsonfly UK operation is being reviewed following the merger, both charter and Lo-co operations, thus Jersey is probably axed. This according to my sauce, is as a result of outstation restructuring. I guess the Jersey was flown via a 'W' from elsewhere?

The Jer rotation is currently flown on a W with a DSA airframe and i belive it was going to be a CVT airframe for the W07 season but not anymore!

So what are TOM's plans for W07; 1/2 B757s like the old days- and three frames totally taken up with what we would have called ITC work, to replace the FCA aircraft.
looking at the TCX thread and what I'm reading here TOM and TCX seem to be retrenching into thier shells- is extniction a risk. There's been no growth in the All in holiday market market for a very long time.

Arrived at luton at 2310 last monday and waited 40 minutes to get through passport control. Stansted is even worse as there are more planes to get down in the evening. Must be in the order of 50 between 2000 and 2359. Queues frequently go back all the way up sat 3!
