I thought TUIFly were shutting down their Bremen base - if so that casts a doubt on the rest of the information. FMO-LTN seems a very odd route for TUFly to do considering that FMO is just a regional base for them and they would face competition from AB's STN service

EDIT - been on TUIFly website and at least some of the information is true, GLA-Stuttgart, CGN-LIS are bookable. GLA-BRE is bookable from Glasgow but not Bremen. No mention of Bremen-Stuttgart or LTN-FMO though, only London route bookable is Venice from Gatwick (probably a TOM charter)

Looks like the duelling of the A505 to the airport is around 5 months behind schedule. Not bad seeing that the project has only been running 16 months.

According to this link http://www.luton.gov.uk/Media%20Libr...0Programme.pdf The earth works where meant to be finished in June yet there is still so much earth works remaining before they can even start laying a road surface.

Grrr

Having recently used the facilities at Luton, it would appear that the traditional 'scrum' to get ones bags from the conveyor, has been replaced by the queue before passport control, by the time you get to the baggage re-claim, there they are waiting for you!

Apart from the terrible road access around the airport and the nightmare of the 'drop-off', the experience of flying Luton once more was fine.

Why did you expect anything different - after all, LBC is involved so that's one albatros too many!

Maybe they should have given the contract to Abertis...

The last two mornings I have past a team of men working on the traffic islands by the Ibis. Yesterday one man was tapping a brick while 5 others watched him.

As I drive daily along the A505 there seems to be more men standing around doing nothing than actually doing something which might account for why after a 2 week holiday I could not see any progress what so ever.

According to the document road finishing (road signs etc) should be completed in December with landscaping work starting November. Some hope. I can see the 3 year M1 project being completed before this one.

So why is there work being carried out to the surface of the north-west corner? I use the word work loosely as I have yet to see anyone working in the cordoned off area which seems to be around 4 weeks old now. This is having an effect on how many Biz jets can be parked in that area.

SilverJet's 3rd 767-200 arrived yesterday from ThomsonFly, so hopefully news of a new route will be annouced soon!

Have you checked out the Luton Borough Council Web site under ELC - East Luton Corridor or are you taking about the part towards Hitchin?

Dubai is the new route for Silverjet.

They start a daily service from LTN on 18 Nov departing LTN @21.00, arr DXB @0830. Return flights depart DXB @ 1030, arr LTN 14.45. This allows for a connection to New York on the 1645 departure.

I think Dubai will be a fantastic success for them. Having flown into T4 with BA and had to wait over an hour to be deplaned and then a further 3 hours for bags to turn up I'd rather fly via anywhere than use a getting-ready-for-T5 BA again!

Easy have started their twice daily LTN-ZRH today. Basle, which was twice daily, is now daily, with a mid-day departure.

Just read this on the internet;

We recently travelled to Inverness via Luton Airport and for the first time took advantage of the check in online facility. It was truly wonderful. We sashayed in, straight through to security which although had a queue (unlike Stanstead) moved really quickly and before we knew it we were airside.

Having regularly travelled from Luton to both Scotland and Ireland over the last ten years +, we continue to be impressed with how much it has grown and how sleek and organised it is.

Unlike the other London Airports, it makes air travel a pleasure.

Certainly my last experience was rather good.

Queues coming through passport/immigration are outside the control of the airport. As I have said previously, you wait here now rather than join the 'scrum' for ones baggage by the conveyors.

The only negative aspect is the requirement to obtain a 'slot' from Brussels for accessing the tinminal area such are the road delays...... and the 'wonderful' drop off area.

Dubai, now who would have thought that would have been possible a couple of years back, yet alone twice daily to New York!

What a shame LTN-DXB starts 19 Nov,
just too late to carry everyone to/from the DXB Airshow the week before.
I'm sure they have their reasons....

Airport website says LTN pax reached a record 1,068,124 for August. A year-on-year increase of 9.4%.

Question for those in the know

How many additional movements per hour would be achieved if the taxi-ways were to be extended to the end of the runway, both ends, also, what is the currant maximum rate ?

Somebody like Vintage ATCO would know better than I but I THINK, from memory, when we extended the "parallel taxiway" to Alpha 1 in 1999 that made it an average of 26 movements / hour. Obviously it depends how much runway length each movement takes and whether they have to taxi to the dumbells and do a 180.

With departures on 24 having to enter at charlie and backtrack, it would have been significantly lower before that. With full length taxiways it would match Gatwick - perhaps as high as 50-60.

Really needs a better technical experts opinion, that is my guess.

It’s not only the airport that is showing growth. The airport’s railway station has increased its passenger numbers from 1,886,911 for 2004/05 to 2,156,699 for the financial year ending March 2006.
