See the "Luton News" has details of the "public consultation prior to submission of a planning application" of the new revised expansion proposals. Public exhibition of the plans start on Thursday, 6 September at various locations and run for about a month. Mentions plans are now on the airport website but at the moment, they don't seem to be available.
The plan looks good actually.
Fifteen new aircraft stands, new Taxiway Foxtrot, extended Taxiway Alpha, new Pier B and changes in the Central Terminal Area. Capacity 16m passengers.
The old terminal - is this being demolished? It should be and that land be utilised to enhance the passenger experience.
Sustainable and really there will be minimal changes in the CTA and on the airfield apart from the odd extension.

Just a question but if as dannyboy39 states there will be 15 extra stands available for overnighting then what would be the process for allocating.
Would for example the airport offer some to Wizz for a possible base, would Easy or other main LTN based airlines get first choice or would/ can the airport put certain restrictions on these stands.
Just curious!!

So is it 5 stands on the southern apron and 2 stands on the signature apron plus maybe another 2 on the eastern apron? Where are the rest going? Is there going to be a new apron?
I'm sure it said fifteen in the plan. I think five of which are currently used for private aircraft opposite Stand 1 and next to the Signature hangar.
I think a slight improvement in the plan would be an extra 6 Code C/D stands to the south of the current East Apron, which would mean there would be contact stands on both sides of the proposed Pier B, and then leaving the possibility open for a Pier C connecting the South Apron.
One thing I wouldn't really want to happen is these new stands to go straight to Ryanair. The airport really needs to lessen its reliance on the "Big Two" - they have the airport by the short and curlies; although both airlines provide significant passenger numbers which have led the airport to become so successful. The airport should continue to attempt to entice short haul airlines from both LGW and STN (which obviously is haemorraging airlines/routes anyway at the moment).
Airlines that LTN should be targetting for a route or two in my opinion: Aegean, Air Baltic, Air Berlin, Air Europa, Thomas Cook as well as other recent Eastern European startups and possibly struggling full service airlines.

Possibly a naive question, but given Gatwick's attempts to drive out operators of small aircraft by raising landing charges, how feasible is it for Flybe to shift some of the emphasis of their London based operations away from Gatwick and towards Luton for a trial period, or would it likely end up with the orange brigade launching identical routes at Luton resulting in an expensive fare war that Flybe can only lose ?

Dannyboy39 - why would an airport want to entice 'possibly struggling airlines'? I do agree that the movement of BE's LGW ops would be a welcome addition to the LTN network and could quite easily provide a large increase on the number of destinations served.
Buster - just for my own clarification (), I believe that pretty much only leaves Monarch?

Flybe could do some routes which don't require a A319 now.
The problem is overnight stands. I would expect they would be used as soon as they were put in use, first come first served.
DannyBoy, all those airlines listed (except TC if they wanted to base) could be done now. It's more of a balance of more based and attracting others who do not require to overnight.
