Strangely, this very short document states that there will be no changes to runway or taxiways.
I would have expected some improvement in runway use to derive from improving taxiway layouts, especially at the eastern end.

Having read the Document 'Taxiways' are under the consideration heading. No new runway or extension to the existing runway is however noted.

Just been looking at Will it Rain Today? | Rain radar for the UK | Going to rain? | MeteoGroup which is a good site for rain radar as you can zoom in. Well as expected at 3:10 it is just touching Oxford. Wonder what time Luton airport will close for the night?

Easy Buster. I subscribe to the premium version of that site and it is very good in letting us know if it is about to rain on an air display or two. Their iPhone app (am I allowed to say that here?) is pretty good too.

But not for long. Landing aircraft reported zero breaking action on second half of runway and came off the runway but only just. Aircraft got back onto runway but now departing Monarch aircraft not keen to go.

(Edit) Monarch has gone back to stand and runway is closed again for 20 minutes.

Tower now being evacuated so no ATC. Wizzair calling tower but no response.

EXTRA EL AL FLIGHT

Looks like El Al have got fed up with the Heathrow fiasco and operating the ELY317-8 (B767) into Luton this evening.

In regards to Future LuToN Optimisation, I've been in correspondance with the organisation; there is a delay of 1 week in the consultation process. The proposals in full will be available through their website from next Monday. The consultation will last for 6 weeks.

Hi Vintage, I was referring to the link above, sorry. I too use the link below and it is great. http://www.futureluton.co.uk/pdf/fut...timisation.pdf

Ocean Sky have applied to convert the Pizza Hut to an elite FBO operation with planes parked outside (east extension to Stand 10) according to LBC planning, the old Flying Club area looks doomed! Go to LBC planning and this is ya reference 11/01441/FUL

I guess their hope is to have it available for the Olympics?

Monarch continuing Rome service through winter 12-13, 3 per week. I wonder why they didn't do Venice from LTN?

This document (is it new?) suggests the creation of two new aircraft parking areas for Ocean Sky, one on the site of the former control tower, the other on the site of the former Luton Flying Club and Helicopter Services hangars. In other words the equivalent of 2/3 'full size' commercial aircraft stands.
It will also, presumably, free up the South Apron (stand nos 20-22) for airline operations in 2013/14. Furthermore, it will allow better use of the area between the South and East Aprons - terminal extension, pier or walkway to South Apron, improved vehicular access, etc.

Ocean Sky are clearly doing well at Luton.

Let's hope this proceeds so that the airport can accommodate more airline activities.

These plans are very interesting, could the extension to the Eastern Apron finally happen once Ocean Sky vacate the South Stands?
Next move Signature, they burst at the seems all of the time, I think they could double their capacity if they moved someone else, but where.....

At the moment Ocean Sky have enough room to park quite a lot of exec aircraft on the part of the south stands they rent. If that fills up there is stand 10 which fronts their hangar. With an expanded stand 10 which looks like it will be expanded over the footprint of the old Britannia Ops building plus the new mini apron by the flying club will Ocean end up with more or less apron space? I would say less

Britannia House is also positioned further away from
the Central Terminal Area, which will enable Ocean
Sky to operate from a location of enhanced privacy – a
significant consideration for many clients.
Would have thought the south stands have more privacy than their new proposed aprons which are next to Joe Public aircraft stands and opposite the entrance to the walkways where people like to stand and look out of the windows
