Some interesting snippits of information on this article, assuming it's from the horses mouth. More investment seems to be on the cards but 2014, by whom?

Does anyone know if there any diagrams/pictures of the proposed new layout of the airport? I'm specifically interested in the new taxiway layout.
I've seen a diagram of the ambitious plans for a new runway and terminal, but I'd like to see something showing these "staying within the current boundary" plans.
Cheers

Old story from last November. The planning application has been turned down by the council as an environmental assessment hasn't been carried out. Also as already stated here will the work be carried out at all before it is known if the concession is going to be put back out to tender.

Wizz
Have heard up to three routes mentioned recently.
Dubrovnik still isnt on sale but the route has been loaded for a few weeks now so somethings going on.
As previously stated Mon and Fri early departures are still awaiting a new route. This could be Antalya or Paphos from speculation.
Should know in the next week i think.
Nothing official about Adria either

Wizzair moving operations from Warsaw to Modlin (apparently)...
Reported by Polish news today...
Od lipca Wizzair nie do Warszawy a do Modlina - Wielka Brytania - Wiadomo
Translated:-
"[The Airline] decided on a strategic partnership with a new, near Warsaw airport. This means that all flights from the UK after July 18 will be directed to the newly built airport.
At this time, Wizzair carries passengers to Warsaw from UK airports, London Luton, Liverpool, Doncaster / Sheffield and Glasgow Prestwick. During today's press conference Wizzair representatives promised to reduce ticket prices by 15-20 percent on all its routes. This is due to lower airport charges at a distance of approximately 40 km Modlin.
On the other hand, passengers will have to reckon with the additional cost for traveling to Warsaw in Modlin. The airport will be connected to high-speed train from Warsaw's Central Station.
Heads are continuing discussions with the airport in Modlin, Europe's largest low-cost airline Ryanair. For starters, it wants to run about 12 routes including Stansted, near London. Over the next 5 years will be about 40 routes including the largest concentrations of Poles in Great Britain..."

Now the BAA are selling the houses they bought over the years to enable a second runway at Stansted!
There for sure will be a shortage of runway space in the London area over the medium to long-term.
Now a shrewed investor would buy those houses up and sell them to the new operator at a huge profit!

More Wizz expansion soon?
With Malev going tits up, Wizzair have announced they are basing two additional aircraft in Budapest, to cash in on their demise.
Only positive from it is, according to their website LTN-BUD will now be increased from 18 to 21 frequencies a week. (Not sure if this was already planned?)

Giles you may well be correct.
Wizz i believe do have two A320s due for delivery in the first quater of this year so they may well go straight to the BUD base.
Think its unlikely they will change the LTN based summer a/c that does Split , Dubrovnik and one new route ( 06.00am early morning depts) although as previously said Dubrovnik still isnt bookable so they are holding back for something.
FR will be doing 2x Daily BUD-STN most days as well.
I feel sure Easy would have looked at the opportunities.
Looks like north of London is going to be saturated with flights to the Hungarian capital

Just noticed that Monarch have increased the Rome service to four times weekly with the addition of a Wednesday at the start of the service. Also going to operate it three times weekly during the winter. Must have had a good response me thinks on forward bookings. Not had time to look if this is at the expense of another service or additional flight.
Will be interesting to see if Wizz (already increased to three times weekly) and easyJet add further capacity on the Budapest route. Sorry to see Malev and Spanair go to the wall with a lot of people losing their jobs.
