You see I knew all the time except I forgot

Always wondered who did the numbering for the hangars at Luton.

Hangar 7& 8 Ocean Sky
Hangar 9 Monarch
Hangar 127 Monarch
Hangar 60 Monarch
Hangar 61 TUI
Hangar 62 Signature
Hangar 125 Signature
Hangar 102 Gulfstream
Hangar 63 Gulfstream
Hangar 89 Easyjet
Hangar 201 Harrods
Hangar 202 Harrods
Now I did think the "new" hangar was hangar 63 but I think it might be hangar 125

Is this a good opportunity to redevelop the whole Signature areas?
I think I remember plans to build one big Hangar before H125 was built.....?

Ocean Sky seem be doing very well so is this a consolidation of Signature facilities under one big roof?

Someone told me the change is because H125 is the only hangar that the new Gulfstream will fit in.

The new G650 is 6inch less than a G550, I suspect it is the fact that they can have 11 full service bays in H125.

Mr @ Spotty M. I think you are mostly correct. The current G550 and the new G650 will not fully fit in the current workshops.
Once Gulfstream have fully moved we could see a new much bigger facility at Signature.

Anyone know why the Eastern Embraers have been visiting so frequently and where they go to?

Runway08 -

I think the Eastern Embraers are on ad hoc charters. The two that operated on Wednesday went to Tampere (Finland) and Valencia (Spain). I can't see a link between the two....

The airport needs to update there website a bit, just noticed on the airlines section under Ryanair that Derry is there, they cancelled that route a while back now.

June statistics

Passenger numbers for June were 918,368 up 9.9 per cent on June 2010. Rolling 12 month total 9,183,709 up 4.5 per cent. ATMs were up 7.6 per cent to 6,808. Luton could lose its fifth busiest UK airport spot to Edinburgh now close on its heels with the Scottish airport handling more passengers in June than Luton.

birdstrike?

I gather a TLV-bound had to come back in this morning after swallowing some poultry on take-off. I'd assume that was the EZY flight... anyone know about that?

If it was en route to Israel in time for the Sabbath, my bet would be on helzl stuffing and a couple of kishkes.

Oddities with MK bus

Am wondering if folks at LTN are aware of this: There seem to be odd things happening with the MK bus (Virgin shuttle VT99), last time I've booked it online from Brum to 'Luton Airport [Bus] LUA', but only got a ticket to 'Luton Bus MK' when retrieving it from the machine. One driver actually charged me the 2.50 GBP from Luton Airport Parkway station to the terminal, the other forgave me (we were a bit late). But now I've spotted that you can't book this route anymore, the destination 'Luton Airport [Bus]' is gone even from nationalrail.co.uk for September. So are they changing this sometime soon ? You can still get Luton via MK tickets. Am glad to report LTN immigration last time (19:30 on a Tue) went much smoother, this time EZY had their 'traditional' delay at SXF. Off-topic: SXF terminal is now really struggling with the crowds esp the departure lounge. 7.8 million passengers is too much. So BER is coming right on-time ! I hope BER's 'cheap wing' (north pier) will have the same friendly staff as SXF though.

London Luton fastest growing Airport in 2011

London Luton Airport is the fastest growing major airport in the London area – and is second only to Heathrow for business travel as a percentage of total passenger numbers. Official figures show that for the first 6 months of 2011, passenger numbers increased by 11.3% and the latest figures show that in 2010 19% of passengers were business travellers.

Driving this growth has been the Airport’s excellent Airline partner performance, easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Monarch all recording positive growth and launching new routes.

With one year to go, the Airport was also recently announced by the Mayor of London as one of 35 locations to host Olympic London Ambassadors. The Airport is expected to be a significant transport hub for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, welcoming travelling athletes and guests attending the events. London Luton’s close proximity to London and excellent rail link to St Pancras International will make it one of the fastest and most convenient gateways to the Games.

Glyn Jones, Managing Director of London Luton, said, “We are very pleased with the substantial increase in the number of passengers choosing to fly via London Luton. We have worked hard at listening to our customers, focusing on their requirements for modern day travel and investing in creating the optimum in fast, value for money travel in and out of London and north towards the Midlands.”

2012

I know it's hardly a glamorous gateway, but Luton has been chosen is one of the 40 'ambassador pod's for the Olympics because of the airport.
Currently no other London Airport has got Olympic people allocated to be on hand. They will mostly be based at the Olympic sites and tourist attractions to help the anticipated 5 million visitors.
