aswell as the new skopje route, bourgas goes up to daily, it was 5 times weekly last summer, and varna is increasing to 3 x weekly from twice last year

Extra Flights

Also Ryanair are operating two of the three Tenerife flights with Tenerife based aircraft; the two Lanzarote services are being operated by Lanzarote aircraft; two Cran Canaria services operated by Gran Canaria aircraft; one of the Trapani flights by a Trapani-based aircraft and one of the Kaunas flights also operated by a Kuanas-based aircraft.
On the debit side we lose Brest as a destination and a reduced frequency on the Knock route but this seems to be made up with increased frequencies on other routes. So all in all four based aircraft used to capacity with eight extra flights with foreign-based aircraft.

LTNman

Believe it is front end of a 737 that was broken up at Kemble and used to be operated by KD Avia of Russia.

Compton3Bravo reported that, on the basis of the January pax figures, LTN remained fifth busiest (after LHR, LGW, MAN, STN) on a ytd basis.
I thought that we had dropped behind EDI?

Rolling 12 Month Pax Figures

According to the CAA stats published this week:
Luton 8,784,311
Edinburgh 8,665,272
Birmingham 8,567,820
I think Luton did lose its fifth place for one month last year though.

Plus could anyone enlighten me please when the new stand 10R comes into service and what is the work in progress going on behind the engine run-up bay which I noticed when departing a couple of weeks ago. Thank you. C3B

Not for a while yet (unless they build a steep ramp!) as there is a considerable difference in height between the slab of the old BAL Ops building and the surrounding existing apron

Despite the new route not yet commencing with Wizz Air to Tirgu Mures, they have today announced they the route will increase from 3 to 4 weekly rotations...

Would love to know where all this East European traffic is coming from?

According to what you hear on the news, a lot of East European immigrants have moved back home due to the UK economy, and countries likes Romania and Bulgaria who joined the EU later than the likes of Poland and Hungary, have strict number of working visa's that restricts these people coming to the UK...

Anyway great to see Wizz Air growing again!

Find that hard to believe. Take a trip to Luton town centre and you will now struggle to hear English spoken. It’s a real shame that so many of the indigenous population can’t get jobs because they are being done by the clients of Whizz and that council services like schools are creaking under the influx of new arrivals.

My view has been reinforced after spending the last three days visiting a new hospital being built in Stevenage. The place is being built by Eastern Europeans.

Probably best we save that topic for another forum!

All I was getting at was, if there were was fewer immigrants in the country, I am surprised demand for Wizz Air's services hasn't dropped. But seem to be going from strength to strength, which is great for the airport!

You would assume the advanced bookings are good, thus add more capacity.

The Tirgu Mures flights already exist and have done for some time - they are flown from Cluj.

Im a bit confused by your comments?!

Wizz Air has already got an established base at Cluj-Napoca and has been flying to LTN for some time on this route...

Turgu Mures is about 100km from Cluj-Napoca and Wizz Air will be flying to LTN from both airports. They will fly 4x daily to/from Tirgu Mures this summer and daily to/from Cluj-Napoca.

I could be wrong, but 3-4 years back I think Wizz Air did fly to Turgu Mures from LTN, but the routes were stopped and switched to Cluj, which is where they have remained.

Grrr

Mr Grumpy aka The Real Buster, tells me that the folk that work at Luton airport that fly home on Wizz, are really hard working.

Is there a clinical term for tounge in cheek?

Eastern Europeans working at LTN

I can confirm that the Eastern Europeans certainly are hard-working. The LTN toilets have never been so clean! Staff cheerful, polite, and also very helpful when needed to translate for Eastern European pax.

Whatever the perceived rights and wrongs of EU membership for Central and Eastern European countries with different cultures, histories, and work ethics, there's no doubt that Wizz Air - and increasingly Britsh low-cost airlines - have built much success on the travel freedoms for all EU countries. That's been good for LTN - and, in my view, ensured any suffering to this airport business through the recession was lessened.

The millions of East Europeans that are here still travel to and from their homelands visiting family, taking cash home, etc. Hence the demand for Wizz flights.

True because they do more for less thus driving down wage rates

Good to see the new route and be interesting to see how it sells!

Looked at the flight times and they are horrible! They depart Luton between 10-11pm and arrive back around 5am.

Night time charter flights are one thing, but not sure how night time scheduled services will sell?!

I noticed this is the case for a couple of the other new flights they have introduced on existing routes...
