It's rumored that Cityjet are in talks with Waterford Airport to take over LTN from Aer Arann.
Would be operated by a AvroRJ85 95 seats. The other Cityjet aircraft has only 50 seats and it would be to small for the route. Hope it happens.
From the Aer Arran fourm.

SNOW...
LTN was supposed to reopen at 6pm, but according to their website is still closed...
There were two arrivals at about 7.10pm, but everything else this evening looks like it is cancelled!
At this time of evening it is probably not even worth re-opening the airport with the likes of Wizzair, easyJet and Ryanair cancelling all flights till the morning at the earliest. Gives the airport chance to properly clear the runway.
Snow seems really localised, here where I live in Northamptonshire we only had a 20 minute light flurry around lunchtime, while friends in the south and west of the county about 20 miles away have experienced over 20 cm!

Hi Meg
Aer Arann have made no announcements to Waterford in relation to a move to Southen and as far as I know no final decision has yet been made in Aer Arann. I hope is not the same source that told you "There is no Aer Lingus franchise" days before Aer Arann anounced it.

To all those dim posters that think Luton is unique in how it handles snow so badly, then I please ask that you refrain from knocking Luton, after all, if Heathrow with two runways has to close, intensity of snow forces closure and not necessarily planning, staffing or equipment!

While I admit that there is definite improvement this year, I think LTN should not be compared to LHR with 2 long and wide runways, 3000 taxiways and aprons sized like Guernsey (& all of that must be cleaned good enough for A380 operation).

I can only say that every airport in the UK needs to review their winter ops, not just LTN/LHR/STN/LGW/ANY. We had it easy for a good 10 years at least but lets face it snow has and is a problem this year, last year and the year before. We've been conditioned into think global warming, sorry I mean "climate change" (as we now refer) has had an effect. Sorry it doesn't wash with me any more, let's face it the ozone layer has (pretty much) repaired itself, I believe in it to 'some' degree but I now feel that England is a cold winter country and the world has a natural cycle, end of! Sorry yes I've had a few sherry's to warm me cockles and I do re-cycle but...

I think LTN did quite well yesterday. The runway was de-iced just before the snow arrived and again during the snowfall. I went for a walk through Wigmore Park and standing close to the airports boundary fence I could hear aircraft landing and taking off but I could not see a thing including taxiway Alpha or Delta, as it was snowing that hard. The snow was already several inches deep before the airport closed.

I think you need to look at post 3086 again and realise that media reports are occasionally exadurated somewhat! Hey, it does not like the press ever get it wrong is it? - On occasions other airports do get severe problems with snow, this isn't part of the debate - But, en masse they handle snow far better than LTN still.

That said, with most snow clearance vechicles having the ability to be mulitasked year round, I reckon ALL these airports should consider increasing the budget for winter ops!
I think many airports, and the transport infrastructure itself, will be reviewing its preparedness for winter weather now we have had the third year in a row of significant snow, which will probably ensure we don't get any more snow for years.
Gatwick specificaly was very ill prepared - One could speculate this was possibly due to a reduced budget for snow clearing, post BAA ownership.

I see that that the concrete covered operations buildings of Britannia Airways which face stand 10 are being knocked down. I wonder what the land is going to be used for or will it just be another waste land like the site of the former flying club.
