For all its faults BHX has one of the cheapest parking charges around only charging per day rather than per hour!

I suspect the real reason for canx flights with Ryan is lack of revenue pax to operate them, or crew shortage as people are finaly wising up to there shall we say "Unusual" employment practices!

Ryanair are doing load management. I they are not selling seats but options on a seat if they feel it is going to be profitable. Ryanair will be messing up peoples plans again for a short term saving. If Alitalia went under ryanair would find 20 planes in days.

PIA

From another forum - PIA reducing to 3 a week with the Saturday service
going but believed at the present just to be during the Hajj pilgrimage.

If Air Blue start will it go back to four a week?

Source was the same that predicted the Monarch ATQ was off days
before BHX new about it!

PIA

The PIA timetable has shown 3 flights for the winter for some time, didn't take much notice of it as the site has shown some strange schedules before.

There are 3 flights shown all through till April.

On the plus side 2 the Tue and Thu flights are shown as 773 with the sunsay remaining as 772.

Not sure what the effect of that is on overall capacity.

I want to clear something up. There will be no extra A/C in BHX and there is no current slack in the fleet, hence major disruption when some A/C become heavily delayed. Ryanair are not doing this out of choice, the week actually concerned is the last busy week of the season, October half term. RYR want their A/C in the air during this week, however, its impossible when you haven't got enough A/C. Look at other airlines such as VAustralia, they are doing exactly the same!

BHX Accounts and Annual Report 2007/8

I do feel very sorry for the poor soul who was responsible for the picture that made its way into this serious and professional publication this week without being checked. It was photo of our excellent quality x-ray machine images and the unfortunate image was there for all to see and - well it didnt leave much to the imagination as the News of The World reported.

Go to News of the World website and type BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT into SEARCH box and article is named " Anything to Declare, madam" can be found there.

However I didn't feel THAT sorry I didnt indulge in a decent chuckle about it.

Cool

A colleague in DH tells me that Report and Accounts document costs about £30 grand as a project in total. And apparently the picture in question is not the only 'cock up' in this year's document - looks like there is some shafting going on in more than one sense of the word!

The big number is the £19.7m profit before tax.
see there website and click about us

They have the money to buy and close coventry or just offer Thomsion some free slots to move.

I am not sure what Ryanair will do for their profits. BHX have made plentry from their old airlines.

Bear in mind that covers 2007-08 - BHX's best year for a while. 2008-09 looks like falling short on budget (although growing when compared to last year) and budget holders have already (sensibly)been asked to cut out unnecessary spend in lieu of a difficult winter. BHX is not badly placed at the moment.

BHX September Traffic up 1.5%

September Passenger Figures

Birmingham International Airport handled 984,245 passengers during September, including 687,139 scheduled passengers and 297,106 charter passengers spread across the two passenger terminals; an increase of 1.5% over the previous year.

Peter Vella, Birmingham International Airport’s Business Development Director, said: "September saw an increase in passengers travelling through the Airport compared against the same month last year, which again re-affirms the reputation of Birmingham Airport as the region’s gateway to the world. With the Airport celebrating its busiest ever month in August and with a number of exciting new routes launching in the coming weeks and months, there has never been a better time for people to fly from their local airport."

In September, growth was achieved on EU routes of 14.5%, while the Irish Republic saw an increase of 7.2%.

1| 2
Scheduled routes that experienced growth in September includes: Bratislava (+808.4%), Stuttgart (+617%), Larnaca (+86.6%), Inverness (+69.6%), Marseille (+52.5%), Milan (+50.3%), Ercan (+45.2%), Ibiza (+44%), Dusseldorf (+32.2%), Copenhagen (+20.2%), Lisbon (+13.3%), Krakow (+8.8%), Waterford (+6%), Amsterdam (+5.5%), Murcia (+5.4%), Hanover (+4.4%), Dundee (+3.7%), Paris (+3.4%), Faro (+3%), Zurich (+2.8%) and Arrecife (+2.8%).

Charter traffic which experienced growth were Egypt (+73.1%), Croatia (+24.5%), Madeira (+24.2%), Mexico (+20.9%), Dominican Republic (+14.5%) and Bulgaria (+5%).

Scheduled traffic accounted for 69.8% of the total passenger traffic in September whilst charter passengers made up the remaining 30.2%.

So BHX handled 14,545 more pax than last year.
But this year there were how many Ryanair 738s based? And how many pax did they carry? I suggest that, far from being a success, this figure represents a reduction in pax numbers for the established operators at BHX.

September pax

LGS6753

The passenger figures are poor considering there were two extra
based schedule aircraft in the form of FR, baby probably had less
flights slightly and flybe had an extra 195 most of the month and
some Q400 upgrades compared to 2007. Not sure about ZB but it
seemed the same -the individual route analysis will show the true
picture of what happened.

The biggest loss was of course via Air Malta (XL flying) and this
could have amounted to 8000-10000 pax, as a lot of return pax
went into Gatwick.

In fact some routes posted very good increases especially on
business routes such as Dusseldorf, Paris, Amsterdam, Stuttgart
which some airports could only dream off.

The 2007 figures show Charter 327012 compared to 297106 in
2008, which speaks for itself.

FR had about 90000 seats in Sept compared to 35000 last year.
Which going on a 80% load factor gives 44000 extra pax.

Take the 30000 loss of IT and you get 14000 increase.

Okay very crude but perhaps after the XL demise the figures
should not have been a surprsise.

Charter pax in 2009 will be even worse as at the moment there
is no replacemnet for the once expected XL 738.

Say compared to Luton with very few IT's BHX will need constant
FR increases to off-set the what is now the annual charter losses.

Similarly, if you take out all the other airlines which introduced aircraft and routes in addition to FR (easyJet, Flybe, BMIbaby, Monarch etc...), then you actually see an even bigger decrease in passenger numbers... what kind of logic are you guys working on? Whether extra capacity came in the form of FR or any other airline, BHX still managed to get more passengers through its doors, which is a superb achievement if you consider XL, the APD and the rise in the price of fuel! Well done BHX!

And Turkish to look forward to too!

United

Whilst on the subject of handling, who did the United 777 today?

About 100 mins for a splash and dash seems reasonable.

Even 3 BA managed to find their way here today, I assume
Aviance still handle them. Didn't think bhx would see the BA
757 again but I suppose they have still have a few more diversion
years left in them.

Good to see the ATQ bookable on the GSM site any little
extra helps!
