Couldn't agree more jabird - when Maersk operated to Athens from BHX initially on B737 then CR7 I don't ever remember there being more than a handful of pax on board. I'm all for new routes and the expansion of services from BHX but don't think this is the right type of operation for the route in question. Then again perhaps that what people said when EK started??
When I was in Athens in Dec all Hellenic 747s were grounded as tech

Bye Bye Aer Syhllet
Well it lasted 3 weeks but today the a/c positioned out of BHX on a Gadair flight number and will not be returning. They have not been payed and have pulled the a/c. So long to another carrier but really to start in the 'off' season for travel to ATQ what do you expect. People should stop playing airlines......

Air Sylhet
Don't know if this is harsh but surely there should be some kind of vetting process before these types of operations are allowed to take any money off the general public (their failures/ short comings also reflect badly on BHX). Air Sylhet don't just owe Gadair money.
Apparently they are going to resume flights in July. Be interesting to see if they can manage to blag an aircraft (if the previous post is correct). In some ways if it fails now it would be a good thing as it would mean less passengers will risk losing their hard earned money (are pax ATOL protected?). Whats the betting they will continue to take bookings and then fail to deliver flights (like Midland Airways and Royal Atlantic). I genuinly hope I am wrong.

Even if the pax are ATOL protected, the cash has to come from somewhere, and I guess it's from the millions of upright citizens who fly with reputable airlines.

GADAIR / Air Sylhet
Apparently GADAIR required the aircraft in MAD for a charter tomorrow, but why did Swissport not handle the flight? Do they owe money to swissport or is it just that swissport only have the handling for Sylhet and not GADAIR?

EK are mainly operating to DXB as a transfer hub, different to operating to ATH, and then on to one other destination @ JED. Only real similarity between JED & DXB is a geographic one, & perhaps fact both have record breaking terminal structures for their time, but in terms of suitability as a destination, they are totally different.
EK also operate a much more modern fleet, and afaik never have had the 747, and never would use the A380 at BHX, even if the terminal and runway allowed for such ops, which afaik, they do not and will not.

Air Sylhet
Pathetic and embarrassing are two words that come to mind after reading the sadly predictable news about Air Sylhet.......how can these people live with themselves taking money off innocent punters when it is clear they have no more idea about running an airline than I do but obviously have a lot more money than I do to be able to actually try it out......but in a recession and during low season for travel to India, that really does take the p

Ek A380
In the recent AOC meeting it was mentioned that we would be expecting a visit from the big bird. It is a promotional event that EK are putting on around the UK and also it will coincide with the opening of the new EK lounge at BHX. The dates mentioned were July or later.

easyjet Grenoble
Good news, easyjet have release BHX-GNB for sale from 19/12/09.
This makes three operators on the route with BMI Baby joining the
fray alongside FR & U2.
easyjet is the same as last winter, Gatwick "W" on Saturday evening
and Sunday morning.

So let me get this right - thousands of £s to be spent, just for a 'royal' visit by the king of the skies? Gives a new take on Her Maj always wondering why buildings she visits smell of fresh paint. There's been some debate about the A380 on the MAN thread, and I'll still stand by my point that it wouldn't make sense for BHX to use such a big bird, especially when smaller twin-engined a/c could maintain a more useful frequency for conx flights, still the big reason for the DXB routes. But my assumption had been that the runway would present difficulties in allowing an A380 to take-off - at least with a revenue generating load of SLF&F, hence mgt's desire for the extension. Or have I missed something here?
