Ryanair

Are Ryanair looking to add more flights from Birmingham in the winter:
Marseille is just the start of 20 routes that Ryanair has already announced from Birmingham this year, with even more to come for the winter.

New FR routes this winter, I wouldn't be surprised if they take on SZG and TRN for winter ski traffic, would be great to also see TXL, BUD and RIX - but to counter any expansion I can't see all of the routes announced for this summer continuing (Trieste, Trapani, Poitiers, Billund and Dinard spring to mind). Also, seeing that in Jul and Aug most of the new routes from BHX are in the current FR offer on their website, are in fact FR flights from BHX selling that well?? There are some ridiculously low fares available. Has anyone got any info on loads for the recently launched PSA, MRS and GRO, how are they doing pax wise?

FR

I have heard/seen some of the PSA/GRO/MRS loads and they vary wildly.

Work colleague has been on the PSA and it was 3/4 quarters full both ways but there has also been loads of 70's etc.

The same goes for GRO varying fro 70's to 150's and MRS 70-120's.

These are only the occasional loads and the April provisional stats due
out this week should provide a better indication re GRO & PSA.

As for the offers there are some good ones with Dinard at £45 return
in August and Torp at £20 which is a worry but there are higher fares
on some such as Perpignan, Pisa and Girona.

As for winter, I would also plum for those routes but a lot will
depend on how many based units they go for. Hopefully they will
add at least a third and perhaps run a Dublin or two with a BHX
based aircraft to get a bit more utilisation.

When the summer months arrive, watch the GRO loads reach 90%+ everyday. It truly is amazing how many people FR fly from their base in GRO. BLK gets 90%+ everyday throughout the summer and into the winter - if BLK can do it, I have no doubt BHX can do the same!

April Passenger figures

Reported as 712476 up 6.2% - Record April figure.

Lower than March but no Easter and one less day.

The press release show some impressive increases on certain route although most can be explained away but still some good ones.

Inverness reported up 106% despite the loss of Eastern.

Based on 60 rotations the average per flight would be 41 or 83%,
which for the first month is not bad.

Others: -

STR up 33.%
DUS up 46.8% (Cologne down from 4000 to nil)
FRA up 9.2%
HAJ up 3.1%
ZRH up 22.3%
CPH up 17.2%
AMS up 11.5% (no increase in services, slightly bigger aircraft)
DXB up 9.9%
BTS & GVA up over 400%.

Are they not getting rid of of the EMB145, and if so the load factor would be around 45% on the Dash 400 and that is when they are charging next to nothing to get passengers, wait until they start charging proper fares to get punters

April Provisional route analysis

Source is the CAA for the pax and averages are my best estimates sometimes using acarsd for number of rotations, here are a few: -

2007 figures in brackets. .

COPENHAGEN/8021(6842)/77 PAX/80-85%

LYON/3329(NIL)/32 PAX/67%

NICE/5513(6437)/106 PAX/75%

DUSSELDORF/15616(10730)/39 PAX/77-80%

HANOVER/3348(3249)/56 PAX/75%

STUTTGART/4421(3690)/28 PAX/58%

CORK/11839(10456)/104 PAX/65%

DUBLIN/50760(46556)/135 PAX/74%

SHANNON/6257(NIL)/120 PAX/64%

WATERFORD/1839(NIL)/35 PAX/59%
BERGAMO/1304(NIL)/72 PAX/51%

PISA/3029(NIL)/117 PAX/62%

ROME/4394(NIL)/122 PAX/83%

AMSTERDAM/46848(42246)/104 PAX/80%

LISBON/5156(NIL)/129 PAX/88%

BARCELONA/5882(6621)118 PAX/84%

GERONA/3533(NIL)/136 PAX/72%
MADRID/4895(NIL)/117 PAX/81%

MALAGA/17964(19227)/145 PAX/82%
MURCIA/11857(13119)/141 PAX 78%

GOTHENBERG/2097(1889)/23 PAX/62%

PRAGUE/6394(5863)/107 PAX/76%

KRAKOW/2105(2205)/117 PAX/84%
WARSAW/2660(1099)/102 PAX 69%

ASHKHABAD/4496(4658)/132 PAX/70%

DUBAI/31939(29060)/266 PAX/75%

ISLAMABAD/8448/248 PAX/76%

NEWARK/9194(9550)153 PAX 88%

Worrying Baby routes are Bordeaux averaging 82, Knock 94 and Bergamo
72 but this one should pick up.

Air India was poor but there were less rotations per month.

Some routes have been perking up such as Warsaw & Shannon and
great load factors on baby's FCO, PRG, LIS, BCN, MAD, KRK & NCE.

FR Pisa was okay, more disappointed with 72% on Girona but as others
have said that will improve.

The SAS CPH pax certainly justify the shoeing in of the Baltic 735 and
DUS has benefited from the lack of CGN and the Q400 on the afternoon
run helping fares to be dropped.

PIA have maintained over 70% load factor and EK was up just a couple
of thousand but at least still climbing.

Overall I would say a good month.

Dublin flights are all Dublin based aircraft, 3 a day Mo-Thu

Pisa has become BHX based.

Out goes TPS, TRS, PIS, OLB which is of no surprise.

Marseille not bookable but it might be that they have yet to

Traffic chaos!

Can anyone explain the total gridlock today on the approach to the airport at 5 o'clock.

It seemed local plods were doing the best to increase the confusion by blocking off a lane immediately after the roundabout for no apparent reason

Traffic was backed up to M42 slip road.

What didn't help was further into the airport complex it was a free for all with regard to parking and pick up's.

Is this a regular problem??

M42

Bristol based Taffy

There was a bad accident on the M42 earlier today which closed both sides of the carriageway (JCT3?). I was listening to local radio and it was chaos, with tales of missed flights, medical problems cars running out
of fuel.

I am sure I heard that resurfacing is required and ongoing problems.

As for the approach roads, it is on my route to work (in the week)
and have seen no problems for ages around the airport other than
car park M42 .

There used to be a problem on Sunday late afternoon early evening
when T5, PK and EK arrived very close to each other. However the
PK was no-ops today I believe and T5 is earlier so that should not be
the reason.

Traffic chaos

Thanks for the reply O.P. Yes I was aware of the M42 incident as I joined at jnc 2 eastbound and noted the lack of traffic

The problem seemed to be centred at the main airport roundabout with a female plod in her 4x4 parked across the outside lane therefore funnelling all the traffic into one lane. but no apparent reason.

The airport itself did seem very chaotic and the multistorey car parks were hilarious

It seems some people believe once in it they can stop anywhere inside to pick up friends & family, or even leave the vehicle parked on a ramp.

The line up getting back into car park 2 was huge, I discovered that was down to everyone lining up outside to use the lift

Traffic Chaos

Nothing to do with the M42 then, as I say this is the first I have
heard of any problems for ages but it was a Sunday evening the
last time between 5 & 7pm and it was just sheer numbers I believe.

Mind you all the based IT aircraft are fairly active now and three
more based schedule aircraft to arrive (Baby no.8 tomorrow & 2 x FR)
in the next six weeks it sounds like it is going to be a fun summer.

Pete

PS Just seen a bhx log on another forum and the PIA did operate and
in fact I don't I don't what I am on about as I was even given a heads-up
earlier re the pax load (246 for those interested).

Brussels Airlines moves to T1 on 1/7/08.

Also noticed that stands 40-42 were taken out of use today - a prelude to work commencing on the new international pier?

EK Bussing.....

I know that the only way to get the work done is by complete closure, how long will this be for? I am flying in on 2/7 on the lunchtime EK, if still bussing will let my pick-up know he could be in for a longer wait in arrivals than normal.......Bussing to/from aircraft although unavoidable is not always a pleasant experience from a pax perspective, but with 350+ pax on the EK now thats going to require good organisation by all involved........is stand 58/59 (used by AI 777) not big enough to handle the EK 77W?
