@j636 - that's an incredibly narrow view about tax rates. The reality is people had less money in their pockets after budget 2012. Motor tax increase, local property tax introduced, maternity benefit now taxable, removal of weekly PRSI allowance, standard rates of USC now apply to those over 70, CAT and CGT increased to 33%, VRT increased, excise rates increased, DIRT tax increased - and they are all just on the tax side. On welfare, you have child benefit dropped, jobseekers benefit reduced, household benefits package reduced.......need I go on!?
The Government do not have €2bn to "play with". As one commentator put it yesterday people (including your argument) are debating how to spend money we don't have. Yes our deficit improved by 1% in 2012 but it was still 7.6%!!!!! We need to get it down to 3%........

So apparently, the loss last year was 6 million before depreciation is taken into account.
Cork Airport losses set for ?6m | Irish Examiner
I note that this doesn't appear to include income from Cork Airport Business Park. There's a total dividend from 8 associated undertakings of 19 million, plus 10 million in management fees. However, it's near to impossible to work out how much of that may have come from the airport business park. I suspect it made very little contribution in terms of management fees, but possibly closer to its 1/8 share of the dividends.

I assume what is meant is that the Cork-based aircraft will only operate Cork flights.
At the moment though, there are a few gaps in the timetable
The Glasgow route doesn't operate Tues, Weds, Sat, but the aircraft doesn't seem to be doing anything else on those days.
And after the same aircraft gets back from Glasgow at 14:25, nothing is planned until 18:45.
I can't imagine that we'll see the aircraft idle. The available times don't pair up well with offering second rotations to Edinburgh or Bristol, or a third rotation to Birmingham.
I can't really see new routes over the Winter either.
A third rotation to Manchester is possible, but I woudn't be entirely surprised to see the times changes and the aircraft operating a W to NOC or DUB.

Most of the current routes could actually take a bit of extra capacity provided the timetabling was right.
New routes might be trickier and may depend on whether the aircraft is a 42 or a 72.
Also a factor would be whether any Ws would be flown with a 72.

Extra capacity on Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester is definitely needed, I think Glasgow is doing fine at the current levels of service. Bristol could get extra capacity but if maybe Cardiff were to be re-introduced then there would be no point in increased Bristol services. New routes I'm thinking London-Southend is high on the list.

If it was to be a 42, I'd have though Belfast might be an attractive option too. Volumes are probably too thin for a 72 though.

Hopefully Dublin will be added for greater connectivity to the US, Europe, Middle East etc.
LTN would also be a great addition for connectivity to the EasyJet network.

I would expect a 72 based, can see SNN getting a 42 as the second aircraft TBH.
A third aircraft would be welcome news and if Cardiff and Southampton were restored. Can't see other UK routes but wonder would they take restore a French route but FR seem to have taken that market from them largely.
Owners of RE could push for SEN but I expect EI will put a stop to it as it will end up like WAT-SEN services particularly as ORK passengers have many choices.

I'd really like to see the Belfast City link restored, would be most convenient for me. Though I wont be holding my breath, what with the road improvements etc and since frequent fliers got used to driving.
Though now that DUB ORK not operating (think last time BHD ORK was flying so was DUB ORK), might be a little more feasible. 42 territory though more than 72.
Ironically, in its day from when Jetmagic developed the route, the route did quite well and then fell victim to recession and new roads.... not to mention the unfortunate crash.

NOC-BHX ran last summer alongside the extra ORK frequencies. I don't see why SEN would fail if daily, WAT was double daily. Surely the bigger population etc could sustain it.

Didn't MAN and BHX have up to 3 daily flights during summer 2012. Has NOC-BHX caused aircraft shortage for 2013 season or was it demand.
Also to point out Simon Fagan has been clear that when the 3rd aircraft arrives the Cork base will be dedicated to the Cork operation.
I’m delighted to be in a position that I can task a third aircraft with a full line of flying from Cork so there will be more news about that in six months time
