I noticed that the list of sponsors of the event included most of the main airport users (BA, Swiss, Lufthansa) but there was no mention of Air France/Cityjet/VLM/KLM (or whatever else they are).
Was this just an example of Air France being tight-fisted when they came round with the collecting tin?
It does make them look rather cheap

I was part of the BA team from LHR there and was impressed with the display and the people that came. It was a good day and I am suprised that a threader mentions other airline sponsors. From what I saw it was BA and a bit of Airbus.
If we BA survive I will be there next year?

Hello WHBM - you mention that there didn't seem to be much publicity n the local area for this year's Fun Day so we thought we'd respond to you.

We did the following this year:
  • A dedicated Fun Day web site - London City Airport : Funday 2009
  • 36 x posters across the airport terminal walkway for three months
  • Advertising in the airport terminal - landside and airside
  • Banner adverts on every page of the airport's web site for six months
  • e-Blast to our database of 55,000 users every month
  • 72,000 leaflets sent to all schools, community centres, GP surgeries, etc within a two mile radius of the airport three weeks before the event
  • A full page advert in last week's Wharf newspaper
  • A full page write-up of the air show on page two of The Docklands newpaper three weeks ago
  • Coverage in the Newham Recorder every week for four weeksin the run up to the event
  • Coverage in the last two issues of BA News
As you'll see, we publicised the event quite extensively, resulting in almost 26,000 visitors through the gates this year - this is the highest number on record.

As for the air show - we had a total of 24 aircraft, both static and display. We physically cannot accommodate any more aircraft at our aerodrome.

Where else in the UK can you see the Hurricane XII Z5140 and a rare Spitfire ML407 along with the famous Dennis Kenyon for FREE?

We're sorry you couldn't make it as you missed the best event in the 13 year history of Fun Day.

Best regards
The Fun Day event team

Hello Skipness One Echo

We increased the crowd line last year and this year to reduce the risk of FOD on the taxiway along with reducing the risk of damage to vintage, club and private aircraft.

Whilst we really don't want to spoil the fun for enthusiasts, the safety of our visitors, staff and aircraft has to be a priority. As our visitor numbers grow, so do our safety measures. It's important to remember that while enthusiasts like yourself understand safety, the vast majority of our community visitors - who the day is aimed at - may not.

We think this is still the closest you will get to aircraft like the ones we have on display at a free event.

Ditto for the security presence - an event of this scale has to be properly policed for everyone's safety. Let's not forget that LCY is an international airport, not just a space for a community event.

Really pleased you enjoyed BA's village. The first A318 rolls off the production line soon so we'll see what we can do for next year.

See you at Fun Day 2010 on Saturday 3 July!

Well done for all your efforts HZ123. The BA Village was a massive hit and having two aircraft on the ground worked brilliantly. We're really glad you enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you there next year.

LCYPR - Nice one folks.

Please keep us in touch about what's going on at LCY (unusual movements etc?).

Sadly I missed the fun day, but isn't it great that there is one in the first place!

Cheers.

I was one of the lucky ones who were able to fly into LCY for the Fun Day. It was a fantastic afternoon, even more so considering that the airshow is free for the visiting public! If only other airports took a simillar approach to working with their local communities.....

@pabely

with the majority of the LCY pax being business related, I would assume that with the ongoing creditcrisis, the number of pax has somewhat bene reduced lately, although it has been more than 9 months since I brought them to LCY, so what do I know

Passing through last week, looked busy enough. Even if it was running at Pre-Credit Crunch movements, can't see that they can cram much more through, but perhaps I always transit at peak times.......

The PDF timetable at the airport's website shows only three weekly flights to ARN and to BLL and CPH flights only on MoTuWe? Can this be correct?

As we are just at it - any word on how the PLH/NQY flights are developing? Decent loads - and more importantly, yields?

'40's ex LCY' may have been seen occasionally but as an average it looks to be on the high side. CAA stats for May show 2128 pax, which would be around 50% load factor.
