I drove all the way from Essex to catch a cheap Ryanair flight from Bournemouth, and honestly - I just don't see why there is all this hype over their new terminal. It was absolutely nothing to write home about! I really didn't think it was anything special.

Buenos

What did you expect?? Terminal 5??

BOH is a tiny regional airport which even the most optimistic of forecasts say may reach 3 million passengers in the next 5 years, which is still probably only 3 x 737 departures every hour. Its modern and functional.....as has been said you should have seen what was there before!!!

Are you sane!

Buenos, you drove all the way from Essex, passing Gatwick or Stansted depending on which way around the M25, also passing LHR and Southampton to get to Bournemouth, spending around £40 in fuel and around four hours of your life plus wear and tear on your car to get a cheap Ryanair Flight?

And then you question the new terminal?

Volcanic Cloud

I suppose it is a bit early just yet but we are going to Alicante from Bournemouth tomorrow 16/4 with FR but what I was wondering is that even if the restriction is lifted in time, I was thinking immediate flights will be disrupted as aircraft will be all over the place as they have not kept to their schedules for a couple of days.

I see the have started putting up the 8 ft plus fence around the whole perimeter now, funny and convenient timing that, just on time for Air Festival! What lengths they will go, to stop enthusiasts / photographers. At this rate they will put Cape Canaviral to shame for security!

the security fence is required under law when airports reach a certain level of passenger throughput (as i understand it). It's certainly nothing to do with stopping enthusiasts / spotters etc. If they wanted to do that they wouldn't have provided the dedicated area with tables / toilets etc would they?

Besides, the fence will stop those who occasionally decide to nip across the airfield on foot / bike etc.

Regarding the security fence, whilst this may be required under the law, it seems a bit odd to say it is to do with a certain level of passenger throughput. Bournemouth's throughput is dropping at the moment rather than increasing as is happening with most other airports around the country.

kemac - re the fence

You're probably right, i was very unsure about the link between pax numbers and security fence. I am pretty sure it hasn't been triggered by an anti-spotter mentality though!

Mon - Fri 1135 1205
Sat 1105 1135

Nothing else extra at the moment , would be good to see a Grenoble service as well , as again no flights to this area of France for the winter from any of the usual Ski operators just Turin and Innsbruck !

Flybe on sale with winter 10/11

Flybe have put MAN-BOH on sale for the winter 10/11 season at the same frequency (only a slight timing change) as existing summer 10'.

Mixed news for BOH with APRIL 2010 pax figures released

52,686 pax handled during APR 10, down 25%.

If the volcanic ash cloud had not occurred it would look like BOH would have maintained static growth on APR 09.

YTD 793,562

JER - 1,449 pax carried (58.9% load factor) But there is no clarity on how many were attributable to bmibaby and how many attributable to Palmair day trips. If CAA stats are correct it could mean that bmibaby actually had a 38.2% load factor which is pretty bad for this new sector.

No other domestic routes operated on a scheduled basis. This is a gap in the market!

INTERNATIONAL ROUTES: 50,492 pax carried

This compares well with other airports:

BOH: 50,492
DSA: 39,733
SOU: 47,284
EXT: 28,074

OTHER PAX: 745
