Silly days for flights
We own a timeshare and the changeover day is usually Saturdays. Neither Ryanair or Thomson fly from Bournemouth to Malaga on a Saturday. Saturday has to be the most popular day for flying into somewhere like Malaga so why Fridays???? Sundays and Mondays

Looks like Ryanair are only operating 1 based aircraft from Bournemouth next summer
Coupled with a Thomson based 737 a very disappointing display of aircraft on the new ramp in front of the new terminal !
For those that are interested it looks like the Ryanair schedule is following

The rest of schedule is operated on a W pattern from other basis
Role on Easy Jet to take a chance now

Hi Markeyd, Aer Arann just don't have the spare fleet capacity at the moment, thanks to the Aer Lingus Regional tie up (which whilst lucrative has meant that they've had to lease a Scot 328 for their IOM - LCY service for example) and so couldn't probably spare an ATR for a risky route - can you really justify running one route to Bournemouth and then having to pay handling e.t.c. (if you look at their network you'll see that they mainly operate at least two routes from each airport)?

Well Ryanair have finally loaded the details for the Canary Routes for Summer 2011, early departures for the return to Bournemouth are the order of the day for TFS & ACE (0600) and the Hold luggage costs are £40 return !!. All other Non Canary routes still charging £30 - so why the difference ??

Historically Malaga's busiest change over day has (and more than likely still is) a Sunday. Check out the number of charters that run from the UK on that day and I'm sure you'll see it's the busiest. Saturday was never a main change over day for AGP. Hope that helps.

Even IF easyJet based two aircraft for summer 2011, Flybe came back with their Manchester and say a daily Jersey route and Aer Arann did Dublin it would still only be around 13 to 15 deprtaures a day. Still well below what the airport is capable of in terms of demand and routes. That 13-15 flights a day would be around 1.1m a year. The airport did this in 2007 and 2008.
The airport needs three times this amount to justify the new terminal. Thats 39-45 departures a day. Thats c11 based aircraft.

Mind you, they were all right pre-recession in 2007 and we're not out of the woods yet so hopefully traffic will pick up next year.

Don't know if anyone else saw the story in the local rag today. Apparently a rare breed of dear has taken a liking to Bournemouth airport. A wildlife officer is quoted as saying "they thrive in areas of intense silence and low activity". The only noice registered in months was a soletery gun shot. Police believe there are no suspicious circumstances however, the inspector was quoted as saying "with 40mil being thrown into the wind this is to be expected".

Why such an anti airport attitude? Is it on grounds of noise? an environmental basis? any other reason?
Sure, the airport is way down on passenger numbers over winter but that doesn't mean to say that nothing is going on, there are many other successful businesses in operation on the airfield, aviation related or not. MAGs investment will pay off in the medium to long term, many people rely on the airport for their livings and gloating over a temporary downturn seems very odd.
I can't imagine anyone saying: '' ha ha isn't it great that ... (insert any company in hard times) isn't doing well.." so why Bournemouth airport?

I agree with possibleconsequences,instead of all the compareing between SOU and BOH, we should be glad that in these so called "hard times" there are two airports reasonably close,giving many local people employment! I still think there is room for both airports each doing their own niche.

Did BOH spend any money or time clearing the Snow today ? for the Easyjet Flights that got cancelled or will they wait for the Rain ?

Bournemouth Airport
Living in the centre of Wiltshire and having used GWK, BRI, LHR, SOU and tried to use BOH, I would make the following comments ;
GWK - Too far, no point in trying to cross Southern England and then fly back, excessive expense and time- but total holiday destination centre.
BRi - An excessively timewasting nightmare to get to, limited destinations during winter, not that cheap, organisation not the best.
LHR - Goes everywhere you don't wish to go, capitals but not holiday locations, expensive to get to, timewasting sausage machine, security nightmare, parking nightmare or very expensive taxi, need to walk 3 miles minimum.
SOU - Now used three times in past 12 mths, quick to get to via A303/M3 etc, easy parking reasonable price, good organisation, impressed by Flybe operation - very smooth, good selection of destinations and Blue Skies,(previously unimpressed by Ryanair and Ezy elsewhere).
On a number of occasions have checked out BOH, always too expensive and too few options in destinations and flights, always has the feel of somewhere that believes it is ranked higher in the universe that reality allows.
At the end of the day,when travelling, what do you want?
Quickest, closest, cheapest travel to airport.
Quickest, easiest processing at the airport.
Limited amount of walking to board.
Good variety of destinations.
Good organisation by airport and operators.
So the Key to the above for our location is Southampton.
No - never tried Stanstead or Birmingham.
Yes - Have worked for the airlines for 15 years, some years ago, so do understand part of the subject.
Hope this helps the discussion, (by the way - there's nothing wrong with the name 'Hurn' - it has worthy connections with aviation and produced more airliners than any other would be competitor).

One of the main issues for passengers is the lack of public transport, which consists of just an hourly local bus service to Bournemouth town centre. If you haven’t got access to a car the airport might as well be on the moon.
