Airferries - presumably to show us that SEN will have a train station from Dec 2010.

I guess jetstreamtechrecords wants to spread rumour....but were it to become reality and ticket prices were greater than say £40 each way it would last about a week. LCY works because of it's proximity to the city, and via tube, even the West End. SEN is in travel time much further away than LGW.

Sorry, thought the new station opening was common knowledge by now.
'Pabely,' yes I agree that moving LCY-IOM to SEN would kill of the niche of the route. However, never say never, I think a weekly summer holiday flight from SEN to IOM could be a strong possibility. SEN-JER always does well so why wouldn't SEN-IOM work?

Most probally because most people would think IOM was that island just south of Portmouth!
It would need a hell of alot of marketing which ain't going to happen in this climate.

Ever tried getting into LCY on A Saturday afternoon? Friday night through to SUN will be IOM SEN . How else will your Spurs, West Ham and Chelsea fans get home to Fraggle. If Man U get rid of Rooney they and Liverpool could be playing Carlisle united before too long so maybe Stobbie knows what he's up to after all?

It looks like the Irish will be paid out in full by Arann and everyone else can go **** themselves. Dublin Airport are getting a full payout but how much will Manx Regional and IOM Airport get last thing we need is another hole in our income

Lotsa people have been badly hurt by Arran.

The big debts were Aer Lingus – €3.75 million (to be paid in full)
Galway Airport – €2.2 million (12.5C/Euro)
Dublin Airport Authority – €1.9 million (paid in full)
Pilot creditors – €1.1 million (paid in full over time)
Sky Handling Partners (Dublin)– €0.4m (10%)
UK tax – €o.4m (in negotiation)
Waterford Airport – €0.3m (12.5%)
IOM Airport – €0.2m (10%)
LTN Airport – €0.2m (10%)
Gate Gourmet €0.2m (10%)

Only €2.2m of Stobbies new €3.5m is going to creditors so lotsa pain all round. Didnt see Flight support on the list so couldnt have lost much. Still all needs court sanction

I suggest they pay cash up front in the Isle of Man from here on in - and as my taxes now have to pay for the 90% the airport is not getting they can forget about future business from me.

Interesting, isn't it, to see Dublin Airport getting paid in full.

A week or so ago our Infrastructure Minister was proudly trumpeting that his department had managed to save £150,000 in costs at Ronaldsway this year. I'd like to think that was before making the prudent provision for potential loss from Aer Arann's debt.....

Pleased to see that the Pilot creditors will get paid in full though.

One does wonder where the future lies for IOM/LCY. I'm not using the route because of the uncertainty. Neither are my business colleagues. And we're not alone, given the recent passenger numbers.

Agreed - most regular London travellers I know have been using the LCY only to use up forward bookings made months ago. Any new travel is being booked on FlyBe through LGW.

Speaking to people its a mix of uncertainty over the route and Aer Arann, the service, and the price. Since the smaller aircraft have been put on the route prices seem to have gone up substantially eg booking just made with FlyBe for a trip in the last week of November for £150. Equivalent flights on Aer Arann quoted at £230.

A real shame because before they messed up the service following the Aer Lingus Regional contract I would not have had a word said against their IOM/LCY service.

Ive not read anything in the Examiner about IOM Airport dropping £200,000 to Aer Arann but I suppose until Friday they technically havent so it will be denied and theyll try to hush it up just like the Euromanx bombshell loss was at first.

Thats two bad debts in two years.No wonder IOM airport is the most expensive for miles around. we keep paying for bad debts in higher charges.

will Arann be around after Monday? Dublin Judge just chucked out the refinancing plan as she wasnt convinced it would work..............

flybe IOM TO BRU

just been on to flybe's website and thay are going to be flying from the isle of man to brussels via southampton starting on the 27th of march on mon,tus,wed,thur,fri and sun. flybe flight BE 1845 will leve the isle of man at 09:45 and arrive in southampton at 10:55 and then arrive in brussels at 13:30 and it arrives back in the isle of man at 16:05 the hole flight will be an isle of man based aircraft

So apart from the airplane and the crew going to Brussels its still a Island Southampton the Southampton Brussels flight. So......yawn

Tinwald - ok it's not direct but you can now book a flight from IOM into Europe without having to endure getting off and checking in (bags, security etc etc) and worrying about the huge cost of missing a connection. That in my book is a great step forward.

The only problem is...Brussels. For me it would make more sense to go to a European hub like CDG, AMS etc. Thus those who wish to go onwards long haul can (and avoid the draconian UK APD) whilst those who just want a break can go some where nice.

But it's a start and I hope it is successful.

I read your Steam Packet shipping company has been complaining that EZY has been nicking as many pax off them as off BE. So are BE getting back a bit of what they did to euromanx or is it all coming off the Steam Packet line

Normally when the airport is up the boat is down and when we got clobbered by the ash the boat was massivley up.

EZY carried 5000 in October - mainly taken from BEs LPL and NMs BLK but the boat pax figures arent out yet so we dont know how many they dropped.

EZY load factor still isnt above 60% most days though

Hi IOMSPOTTER ,5000 in 1 month is not as bad as it seems given that the sector is so short and it can be used as a nice filler between longer sectors during the day by the airline, so fair enough to say that given the short sector time they wont be as worried about fixed operating costs ie aircraft capital costs, when judging the success of this route. I cant see them axing it.

I would however suggest if they want to seriously get after the market as a challenge to Flybe they need to step up to x2 daily and perhaps 3 on some of the days.

In September I note that the total passengers flown on LPL IOM were 13333 so if EZY carried 5000 (where is this info from ie 5000?) they got a great share of the cake with only a daily flight so I would again believe getting an extra daily flight on the route and appealing to the business traveller could be just the trick.

What do you think?

The LPL route in October was +3295 on Flybe/Easyjet so are they actually generating growth without taking much off Flybe?
