Its no problem in a Do 228!

In fact landing anything on 1 cm fresh snow shouldnt be a problem. What does your ops manual say on contam runways WB? Now if theres ice thats very different.

max 3mm of any contaminant for normal ops on J41
contaminated runway ops with big restrictions, in other words you are running out of fuel, medical emergency, transplants etc
7mm water, 9mm slush, no snow ops over 3mm end of

I'm hearing a rumour Reynoldsway has run out of de-icing fluid. Not clear whether that is for a/c or for runway. Although it seems U2 got in and out for their LPL as did some RE flights, but BE were left on the ropes?

Hi all
Does anybody know the split in the passenger numbers for November on IOM LPL between Easyjet and Flybe? Or does anybody know what sort of load factors the 2 carriers are getting on this route at the moment?

Apparently closed due to ice on the runway, quote from the horses mouth:
'There is just too much ice on the runway. After sever delays all day we are closing the airport to concentrate on the ice clearing operation. We hope to have it open on time on Monday morning.'

I flew Easyjet today. Aprons in LPL all cleared
Landed in IOM and seemingly nothing had been done. Aprons were covered in ice and snow. Took them half an hour to de plane since they were concerned about ice on the 10m stretch that we had to walk.
Get the impression that they don't know what they are doing.

Not particularly impressed by the Airport Director's "definitely not our fault" message. Maybe something else was and she's on the defensive?
But worse this weather has, for a change, been well heralded by the Met people. Surely someone somewhere could thought ahead and laid in a suitable reserve?

Ronaldsway Airport Management were informed at shortly after one pm today, that the handling agent who carry out the aircraft de-icing had run out of fluid, due to the non-appearance of a further delivery expected on the ferry this morning.
Whilst the Department of Infrastructure is responsible for the runway and airport de-icing, the aircraft de-icing falls to the handling agent for the Airlines as a core role. It was explained to the Airport Director by Airbase Flight Support Limited (AFSL), the handling agent at Ronaldsway, that an order was placed with the supplier on Friday with the expectation the delivery would set off on Saturday morning and be arriving at Ronaldsway at six am today.
The handling agent had sufficient supplies for the first wave of flights this morning and the new supplies would have comfortably accommodated several days’ worth of services.
Ann Reynolds, Airport Director, said “whilst the Airport opened at half past eight this morning and will stay open for the remainder of the day, several of our operators, given the current and expected temperatures, have cancelled operations for today. AFSL are trying to source alternative supplies whilst also asking their original supplier the location of the expected delivery”.
Ann went on “AFSL have informed me that they have used around a normal winter month’s supply of de-icing fluid in the last 48 hours alone. They very sincerely regret the situation, caused due to the extreme weather conditions across in the UK however the Airport will try and keep the public appraised as the position progresses. As soon as there is further information from AFSL there will be a further statement”.

I assume that they are arriving clean and leaving before any snow/hail falls.
Just reread the airport press release. Ordering on a Friday and expecting delivery over a weekend is cutting it a bit fine, eh? Maybe they should fly the stuff in

So if they have run out of de-icing fluid, why are Aer Arann and Manx2.com still operating? Can they operate without de-icing?

It was a farce today. Ramp a mess like a knobly skating rink as it wasn't cleared yesterday when it partly thawed and then froze overnight. Only one bus working and driver wouldnt move it till the ice around it was cleared. Then the news we all knew. No de ice fluid. No way was a months supply used in the last two days as hardly anything has moved in the last two days
All a complete joke and Reynoldsway says not our fault .

Any news on the guy who was taken to hospital yesterday. He apparently fell and was knocked out because of the ice you mentioned. Ambulance heard through Ballasalla and plenty of viewers in the restaurant!

M.O.B - The gentleman in question is now back at home. Was discharged from hospital with concussion and damaged ribs. Was actually unconscious on the apron for a short time. We were all very worried.
AFSL De-icing fluid supply should be replenished in the morning as 4000litres should have made it to Heysham from Newcastle by now. The order that was dispatched got caught up in the very bad weather unfortunately, and should of arrived this morning. But yes....1 months supply in 48hrs...thats how it disappeared.
The cancelling of the flights happened a bit too quickly, as the a/c could of flown as they didn't need de-icing. The problem would of arose if they were sat on the ground too long as we had active frost. Could of got a few more sectors out of the aircraft as they were arriving 'clean'.

Thanks for the info. I am sure you now how rumours get about. Terrible conditions you must have to work in. Just hope people come before planes and profit or is that just wishful thinking? Good luck and have a SAFE Christmas.
