Correct!

SA Express to acquire batch of Flybe Q400s

If memory serves it's GJECS/T/U bought in 2007 and the latest next generation birds GFLBF/G/H/J... And those latest ones had nice subtle changes in the cabin, which made it look very smart.

Flybe have been very good over the past few years at earning a few extra £££, with leases to Wideroe, Olympic, and now selling these aircraft. Definitely helps keep the balance sheet in good order.

actually its 9 aircraft going

Sale of Aircraft

Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, is pleased to announce the sale of two Bombardier Q400 aircraft to Rand Merchant Bank of Johannesburg, South Africa ("RMB"), which will lease them to South African Express.

The Q400 aircraft were bought new from Bombardier by Flybe in 2011 and have been in service with the Group since that date. The sale transaction price is in line with the book values of the aircraft. Flybe is currently in negotiations regarding the sale of a further two Q400 aircraft.

The two sold aircraft, together with the sale of three aircraft to RMB announced on 8 July 2011, form part of the nine aircraft in total that Flybe has earmarked for disposal or lease handback in 2011/12, as announced in the Group's full year results on 30 June 2011.

Jim French, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented:

"The acquisition of Finnish Commuter Airlines, which brought with it 15 ATR and 2 Embraer aircraft, demonstrates the growth opportunities available from making acquisitions which bring with them existing aircraft. As previously reported, we believe that this is the most compelling model for growth in mainland Europe.

"Our ongoing policy of adjusting our fleet capacity is part of this strategic rationale of de-risking the business and balancing organic and acquisitive growth across the Group as a whole."

Do any of you Flybe caps know where the 9 Q400s will be taken from. Does it mean we could get the Embraer on LGW?

175's

Lots of stuff on the BE thread about where the 175's are going, INV, MAN,BHX (to CDG and Germany) but no mention at any stage of IOM.

As an observer, and nothing else, the current set up seems to offer BE maximum flexibility, simplicity and cost containment as far as crew and airframe utilisation are concerned, and they don't need the extra capacity or speed at present, so I'd guess we will be well down the queue........... the external factor which could force their hand is if RE ever disappeared off LCY.

Q400's

IOMspotter

Five have gone already without even really noticing them. The sixth
remains at BHX and has been used quite a bit this week along with
the spare 195 plus plenty of positioning flights earlier in the week.

Once the South African ones have gone by October it should be

51 x Q400's
14 x 195's
4 x 175's - which I believe matches the accounts

I only checked one week in November but 60 or 61 was the maximum
number of aircraft required so I would imagine IOM will remain as a Q400
base in the short-term.

Still a bit of slack even if a couple more Q400's leave the fleet.

rendezvous said DILKA has gone back to kiel with FLM for maintenance and due back from Germany imminently but I dont know if it will come back here or go to CWL

We still cant' work out what will happen with BE if its now 9 aircraft going off the fleet and if the new Embraers are being delayed as it says on the fLyBe thread. We dont want a load of cutbacks at Ronaldsway this winter as its tough enough already with the government spending cuts and more to come.

august IOM pax.

As announced on Monday...

After July saw an increase of just five passengers over the same month in 2010 at Isle of Man Airport, August 2011 has recorded a slight increase over the August 2010 figure. 65,964 passengers passed through the Airport during the month, an increase of just 367, or a little over 0.5%. Although the first half of the month showed greater promise with a 1.5% increase, the continued squeeze on UK home budgets, has again flattened any expected growth for the peak summer months.
It was the Liverpool route that primarily boosted traffic for the month with 1,900 additional passengers flying with Flybe and easyJet, a 14% increase. Although there were 300 fewer passengers using the Manchester and Blackpool routes, the overall Northwest traffic was up by over 5%. Whilst Airport Director, Ann Reynolds, was pleased that an overall increase was recorded, she emphasized that market conditions, particularly for regional routes, remained relatively flat. ”August is one of our busiest months of the year and has, in the past, generated over 70,000 passengers, but this level has not been experienced in recent years," she said. "We were hopeful that we would see a more emphatic increase for August this year, but market conditions have remained very difficult for the airlines, as is the case for many UK regional airports. At the moment there is no indication of a resurgence of traffic and therefore to be able to maintain 2010 levels is a pretty solid outcome."
Although many of the regional routes from the Isle of Man experienced decreases, August saw improvements to traffic linking the Island with Birmingham, Belfast City, Dublin and Southampton. The Flybe link to the Midlands has begun to show consistent passenger level improvements during 2011, as has their more frequent service to Southampton. The 54% increase in the Manx2 Belfast City traffic confirms that virtually all the passengers using their discontinued Belfast International route last year have transferred to the more frequent City route. Aer Arann also had a good month with a 6.5% increase in Dublin traffic and their London City service averaging two thirds full for August, traditionally a quieter time for this business route.

The spin doctors excel themselves!!!

So, an 11% drop in pax on LCY is a 'good news' story. Wasn't August 2010 a "traditionally a quieter time for this business route" too.

Rumour has it that Eastern are def in line for the LCY due to RE's mess. I do hope its true cos the reliability and aircraft Arann use are horrendous.

Come on Ricky Lake and show that Eastern brand on fraggle again and give the LCY pax what they deserve

Youth Games boosts September passenger numbers - Airport Press Release

A successful Commonwealth Youth Games has boosted passenger numbers for the Isle of Man Airport, with September once again seeing an increase in traffic. It is the sixth month in a row where the Airport has recorded an increase, with over 64,300 passengers passing through the terminal, an increase of 864 or 1.36% over September 2010. As the current UK economy and austerity measures are continuing to hit domestic air traffic very hard, the increase in passengers on Isle of Man routes, in many ways, bucks the trend.

Airport Director, Ann Reynolds welcomed the news, but was realistic about the September outturn. "Without doubt, the Airport experienced a very busy time over the period that the Commonwealth Youth Games was held, particularly as the stormy weather forced many people to revert to air travel," she said. "Most of the competing teams came by ferry so as a result of the high winds, it injected a boost in airport traffic which ultimately resulted in an increase for the month. There is no doubt that UK domestic air travel is currently very flat, particularly short haul leisure travel which has been hit hard by UK austerity measures. The underlying trend is still that Isle of Man air passenger traffic is running at about 2010 levels."

Again, it was the Northwest, and in particular the Liverpool route, which created most of the additional traffic. An increase of over 2,000 passengers to and from Liverpool meant that Northwest traffic was up by about 1,300 passengers. Flybe’s Birmingham route generated an increase in Midlands traffic and passengers to the south and south-west of England also climbed by 550 due to increases in both the Southampton and Gloucester routes. Manx2.com also saw significant growth of traffic to Belfast City and a successful end to the season for their Anglesey service. Whilst Aer Arann had less passengers travelling on their routes to London City and Dublin, this was due to the introduction of an aircraft with fewer seats, but they nevertheless had a successful month with the London City service in particular, operating three quarters full. Whilst passengers to Scotland were slightly down, the route to Glasgow continued its improved performance.

Again, it was the success of the direct holiday flights to Europe that also sealed the improvement in September. Passenger numbers on these services increased by 40% underlining the popularity of flights direct to the sun spots from the Island. Between May and October there will have been a total of 24 Mediterranean holiday departures to 9 destinations generating an estimated 4,400 passengers for the Airport.

Whilst Phil Gawne, MHK, Minister of Infrastructure acknowledged that the key attraction was the direct flights to holiday resorts without the hassle and uncertainty of a UK airport transfer, he underlined the quality and diversity of the flights and packages that have been offered during 2011. "The feedback we have had about the holidays that have been flown directly from the Isle of Man this year has been truly outstanding," he said. "Residents now have a wide choice of quality holidays available virtually on a weekly basis from May through to October. With destinations as diverse as Dubrovnik, Naples, Madeira and, of course, the Balearic Islands of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, and the choice of four tour operators with high reputations, the 2011 success is not surprising. This is what the residents of the Island have been seeking for a long-time and I am sure that the 2012 programmes – that are currently being planned – will be equally well supported." He went on “At the same time, we recognize our scheduled operators are continuing to offer some very good fares in order to attract passengers. Everyone recognizes it will be another hard winter economically, but we really do need the range of daily services to continue to attract both visitors and business to the Island.”

I see once again the Airport Director is commenting on the economy and her stance on the downturn.

Who needs Mervyn King when you have Ann Reynolds!

Seems four a week as far as I can tell. However S012 seems to have lost one rotation when compared to S011.

IOM-LTN continues to JER does it not?

Is this change driven from the LTN-JER perspective?
