Maybe a triangular GCI-JER-LHR route would be viable?
I doubt even old, not bold's robust Channel Islands' airline (indeed not a bad idea in itself) would manage to secure the needed slots at the Golden Runways. There is simply not enough catchment around these parts to warrant a sizable enough airline (GR was perhaps once upon a time, but the big boys have (and will continue to) taken over).
The only airline I see making a profit to LHR is BA, maybe when runway 3 is open. But with Open Skies taking effect, and in the 'current economic climate' (my god how I hate that phrase) we'll see more and more regional routes axed from LHR and long haul services coming in.
Off to LGW it is then.

Aurigny new route???
I think you might find the new route Aurigny were about to annonce was a Jersey-Stansted-Jersey.
If this is the case Aurigny did this route a number of years ago so not a new route as such for the company but reinstateing an old one so no susidy from the states of Jersey?.
Aurigny were only looking at starting this up again if the Luton that Easy dropped was not taken up by any one.
With Flybe doing a Luton service all be it three or four times a week this summer the The Aurigny idea of the Jersey-Stansted-Jersey might be dropped.
It will be a hard summer for every one not only down there in the Islands.

I don't blame bmi whatsoever. They gave it a good stab,

This schedule might even be by an EMB190 from the information passed on a couple of weeks ago.
With the way the Euro is at the moment the continetal flights might be the only full ones as bookings on a numer of the U.K. destinations are not looking good so far.
It is afterall only the middle of January and with the credit cruch at the moment every one if hanging in there for a late cheap holiday?

I was wondering whether the end of the LHR service will increase chances of some of the LCY frequencies being re-instated? Now that VLM has joined air France / KLM / Cityjet, LCY offers quite a few connections whereas the useful connections BA can offer at LGW become fewer and fewer.

You are absolutely right. I have never looked at it from this angle. The Channel Islands were out of reach for most Germans in the past cost-wise because of the high cost of holidaying there in general and the strong GBP in particular. So the current crisis might open up some new markets. Another surge might come from the language school market as sending kids to the C.I. will become more affordable compared to places like Malta.

With regard to European flights, it appears that the Saturday charter flight from Zurich has been dropped for 2009. Although the Swiss tour operators (RMR/Falcon) are still offering holidays in the Islands, they will utilise the Blue Islands flights from Geneva and Zurich.
Potentially this is encouraging because it offers Geneva as an additional departure point, and allows better opportunities for short-breaks. Blue Islands did appoint an agency in Switzerland to promote the routes to the travel trade in December, so it will boost passenger numbers for them too.

Teeside or Durham Tees Valley
From what I understand Jersey has lost another destination.
With Globespan pulling out of Durham Tees Valley Jersey will have no summer flights from the at the moment, all be it was only saturdays for the summer period.
More doom and gloom down there on the rock.
Will Jet 2 even think about operating flights out of there being there area.
Would the up and comming LCC Flybe? look at operations out of Teeside?

FlyBe doing 5 x weekly from NCL, a bit further north than Durham Tees Valley, thats an increase from 4 x weekly last summer. So dont think they will add DTV, unless possibly a charter.
Thought Jersey would do well from the UK mainland this year. No problems with the exchange rates.

MME
If there does end up being no flights to Jersey from MME this year, I think that it would be the first year in at least the last 30 that there has not been any flights. Very sad.

Oxford-Jersey flights
Not sure if it's mentioned in this post, but there's a summer service now between Oxford Airport and Jersey using a chartered Dash-8 from Air Southwest. Seats or packages on offer from Discover Jersey - www.discoverjersey.com
Not a bad alternative to Heathrow - an awful lot less hassle?

Summer 2009
Things seem to be quite on the Island with only three weeks to go before the summer schedules start, no signs of any more airlines wanting to go to the Island.
With the currant financial climate in Europe with the pound and the euro, the States of Jersey Tourism board should be out around europe selling the Island??
I think they can only sell it so far, the hotels on the Island are few and far between now, not like twenty years ago when the Island was having upwards of 400 movements on a Saturday, they might be lucky to get 200 hundered movements on a saturday, has the bottom fallen out of Jersey and nearly all the trade is passing them by???

LHR
the loss of the heathrow route hasn't helped, although we are gaining STN and LTN , that isn't really going to make a difference ,it's just going to split the passengers around the different airlines, it wont bring more people to the island. Where's when we have LHR people can fly from all over the world and connect straight to JER without having to go to LGW. Jersey needs to be advirtised in the main uk airports, the west europe routes should be served more over 3 days a week rather than just weekends.

Seats Lost
jerhippo
Jersey is not really gaining the Luton it is only replaceing the dropped Easyjet flights, Easyjet operated the route with the B737 700srs operateing seven days a week the Flybe will be a Dash Q 400 and not every day of the week from what I understand?
So on that basis more seats lost on the Luton service.
So an ATR72 on the Stansted with 66 seats and a Q 400 on the Luton with 72 seats make 138 seats to north London that still leaves a few seats short on what an Easyjet B737 700srs was offering.
Time will tell when the summer schedules get published then people can see on how the summer will start to look.
There could well be the odd airline that might not make the middle of the summer in the present climate??
