Ah... know the feeling!

Seems the Swissport disruption planned for ABZ & elsewhere has been called off.

Happy New Year to all.

Over on the EMA thread, reported that T3 have axed the EMAABZ route, it not appearing on the destination page nor booking engine. If so, does anyone else fancy a bash? Are T3 still associated with high fares & therefore it could do with a loco airline on the route? But if T3 on a J41 cannot make it work........

Re Capt D comments on FRA, I see LH Cityline are operating a CRJ900 on it at the moment. May just be for the tail end of the NY, or time of the year generally... or could it be a permanent move given the decline in pax?

I never realised EMA & BHX were so close together until now (37 miles by road).

If I was flying to/from that area I can't think of a reason to fly with Eastern to EMA given that Flybe have better frequency to BHX and will be half the price.

Do you remember BE's 'attempt' at ABZ-EMA from a couple of years ago RT?

The Cityline CRJ is only this week 3-8 Jan and then reverts back to E190. It's likely LH are just taking advantage of the time of year and have a few E190's in MX.

Barely Capt D... which probably sums it up!

I remember better bmiR's attempts with a late am ERJ arrival from EMA which was also in vain (off peak jet was never likely to succeed, & that was when oil was +$100).

Meanwhile, reading SAS plans to withdraw lounge facilities at several airports in UK & Europe, ABZ one of them.

EMA is better than BHX for Nottigham, Derby & Leicester and maybe Sheffield - but that's it

The current Swissport lounge is a dark, windowless dump. That said the new ones are due to open in May I think (Swissport/BA) and things look promising so far with windows facing out onto the ramp and airfield.

Will be interesting to try them out in time.

New Route.... Sort of...

Mentioned on the Flybe thread that they are to be running a twice weekly seasonal service from ABZ-SOU from 27/05-03/09 on Saturdays/Sundays.

Looks to be for positioning of Q400's. Runs along the same dates as both JER & NQY seasonal services.

EMA and BHX may be close but don't be fooled by the distance. It's a quick 40 min drive if all is well, about 70min if busy and quite easily 2 hours if something isn't quite right. If you happen to live further east then the problems are compounded. I'm a pretty much guaranteed 10 mins from EMA and would always pay more to avoid having to leave loads of travel time. Could be a minority of one of course!

Just like I won't fly from EDI or GLA if ABZ has a suitable option which it nearly always does.

However, realistically a return trip with BE from BHX would be say £120 r/t, T3 from EMA would easily get into the £300-400 echelon as standard and that's when the vast majority of people will look at other options. It speaks volumes that EMA was always on the J32 that Eastern wet leased last year.

Being more than Cat1 is not particularly useful going into ABZ as it's a Cat I runway.

Well, Rex, if it's given someone operating or paxing to ABZ a headsup then it's worth posting.
Anyway, now's the time to get in

Eastern Hangar Closure

Anyone picked up talk of Eastern Airways closing its ABZ hangar and shedding engineers?
Surely given ABZ is the centre of their operation cannot be the case?
