can't see a problem for emirates to start a couple of flights a week to places like ABZ and Bristol if the runways were extended

There is very little chance of any worthwhile extension to the runway especially if the clowncil goes ahead with the new AECC. This would likely rule out the 300m southern extension mentioned in the White Paper some years ago. Any extension to the North would be mega-expensive as a large portion of the hill on 2nm final would have to be removed. Long haul will never happen out of ABZ, I'm afraid

"I can. No one flies a route like that twice weekly."
Hmmm - well into the 90's I can remember flying regularly to W Canada - Air Canada flew LHR - Calgary some days and LHR - Edmonton on others
Seemed to work for them at the time and I think KLM did something similar out of AMS

RE Westjet flights. My understanding is they have done pretty well with their direct flights to Dublin.
I can't see how direct Halifax from Aberdeen would be of much use unless it arrives at a time that there are decent connections to YUL and YYZ or elsewhere. Point to point dosen't really make sense business wise (maybe tourist wise). The oil industry part of Canada is not really located in Nova Scotia.
Oh well...anything to make Aberdeen feel like an international airport I guess.

extending the runway etc is a damn site cheaper than rebuilding the terminal - and both are needed
Any building project at an airport is expensive, but as projects go, this airport has a lot it can do to make best of use its current facilities before needing to splash the cash on massive building projects.

You're asking the management TO WALK to the terminal - surely they will require a limo service...........
but you are right - Aberdeen is one of the worst airports in the UK for prioritising the needs of users IMHO

That's exactly the problem. It's small, clean and friendly. It needs to be big, clean and friendly. The facilities are totally inadequate for the volume of customers passing through it!!

I have said for decades that the Cargo shed down by Stands 2 needs to be moved, and an International Departure/Arrivals area put in.It about the only suitable space left. However where would Cargo go?
Maybe the C apron, but they are running out of room very quickly.

Do you mean the DHL building to the right of the terminal and JD Wetherspoon beer garden? If so then you'll be happy to hear that DHL are to move to the old snow base on Forties Road in order to clear that space.

BBC News - Aberdeen nominated as most dismal town in Carbuncle awards
Aberdeen has been nominated for the unwanted title of the most dismal town in Scotland.
Urban Realm magazine has said the so-called Granite City is in the running for the infamous annual Plook on the Plinth Carbuncle award, on the grounds Aberdeen is "where architecture goes to die".
Fellow nominees include Cumbernauld and Lochgelly.
The Plook on the Plinth award was established in 2000 to provoke debate.

.... by 2018 that is......
“We will extend the terminal by 30% to create new immigration and international arrivals facilities, together with executive lounges upstairs.
“We will then reconfigure the existing terminal, creating a larger security search area and increasing the size of the departure lounge by almost 70%.
“More space is something that our passengers consistently tell us they want and the project is a fantastic opportunity to deliver on this. It is exciting to watch the initial demolition works get started after months of planning.”
Work is expected to be completed around the start of 2018.
about the same time as the bypass opens ... and the oil runs out

EMA Dropped - By Flybe
So what was that all about then?? Looks like Flybe have chopped their EMA flights before they've even begun!
Pretty nonsensical schedule anyway - not sure who would be interested in a 5 weekly, middle of the day service anyway.
Their S15 schedule has been released and I can only assume it is incomplete with MAN currently seeing a bit of a cutback but presumably the situation with this will become clearer nearer the time.

Especially as it is primarily a business route already catered for by Eastern's three daily rotations - albeit at a price!
I think Flybe were just looking for something to do with the E75, but it does suggest their route assessment was way out with this one, and cancelling it at such a late stage does reflect badly on them.
