This decision has been known about for ages in circles so will have no bearing on more recent announcements regarding a potential sale.

Eastern Airways increases Southampton to Aberdeen services

From 20/1/14.

Up...down...up again.
Including a 30 minute stop at LBA
Still quicker than the train though

I take it that the T3 NCL flights are aimed at the Oil & Gas industry as the train only takes just over 4 hours and is considerably less.

Wonder how the minibus shuttles to and from the new carpark will get through the gridlocked traffic caused by all the new industrial areas being built with little or no thought of the infrastructure needed to cope with the additional traffic caused ?

oh wow!

Shuttle buses..... surely they can do better than this...........................

one 17 seater minibus meets any LHR flight and 30 peopel want to go and collect their car.....

might be an opportunity for valet delivery tho'.... if you'd trust your car to anyone in Aberdeen that is

Bristow Group & Eastern Airways

Eastern Airways is to fly personnel for BP in a new charter service between Aberdeen & Sumburgh, from June in support of BP's west of Shetland operations.

New jobs as oil flights relocate to Sumburgh | Shetland News

The contract is worth £30m & replaces the direct ABZ-W.Shetland helicopter flights. Will start off using 2xJ41s but changing to Saab 2000s as projects are upmanned. Oil workers will link up with the helis at Sumburgh.

A good win for Eastern & I'll bet Loganair would have loved to have got their hands on that contract.

Also, I see Bristow Group are taking a 60% interest in Eastern, although Eastern will continue to operate independently. Interesting move by both.

"Hell, I even walked home IN THE DARK!"

you have no choice - it's dark all day for a significant portion of the year

"Aberdeen was dubbed 'the UK's Saddest City" after the British Journal of Psychiatry named it the worst place in Britain for SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder, for its lack of daylight in the winter months."

Actually my feelings about ABZ are born out of a sense of frustration - you go through many small airports around the globe and they are doing well, and are quite pleasant places to travel via

Aberdeen is just a 30-40 year litany of missed opportunities based on keeping expenditure below what is required and ignoring the punters

baggage carousels (lack of), the old 10 man bus shelter for taxis that lasted for years, the walk across the tarmac, the gross overcrowding airside...................

this is supposed to be the Gateway to one of the biggest booming cities in the Europe - but you wouldn't think so when you arrive

Wouldn't disagree with that Harry. Thankfully the days are lengthening now...just hope the weather doesn't make us SAD! I actually bumped into someone I hadn't seen in years last week who has SAD.

I note another Transavia B738 today from Amsterdam - I think it's the third or fourth recent movement from them. Anyone know what this is in connection with? You would assume oil, but I recall Transavia operating a charter before to do with the distilleries in the Shire.

I'll finish off with:

Bond Terminal 2

Opened to traffic 3/2/14 on the site of the old airport social club premises:

First oil platform passengers take flight from new helicopter terminal | Energy Voice

"The contract started yesterday with around 21 flights a week – up to five a day – expected to ferry more than 100 passengers to and from the North Sea.

In March, the frequency of flights will increase to around 38 a week once the second S-92 helicopter comes on board."
