Wizz to hold press conference with their CEO in Warsaw tomorrow to announce future plans, likely they will stay in Chopin according to speculation, although it is just that.

Meanwhile figures for the first half of a year in Warsaw Chopin for low cost carriers have been released.

Ryanair - 731 411
Wizz Air - 495 520

Wizz are back at Chopin permanently, in exchange for an 85%(!!) discount on fees and a marketing agreement with Polish State Airports (125,000 for a route) according to a respected Polish website related to aviation in the country.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next, considering recently Ryanair had made a complaint about PPL to the EU about Chopin Airport treating them unfairly when it comes to fees, as we all know, PPL and Ryanair have a history of disagreements and don't like each other.

You don't believe FR would just kindly accept paying more for a worse airport, do you?

If that is going to happen I think we observe just the beginning of this story. Or will FR get even bigger discount for using WMI?

^^ This news shouldn't be underestimated. Wouldn't it pay to start connecting flights in BUD to this destination and test the option for a while? Is WizzAir really in need of equally stringent "no-frills" rules as is the case with Ryanair?

I don't know what the position is regarding Ryanair and Modlin etc following the Wizz announcement, although it's worth pointing out that Wizz had been vocal for some time about wanting large compensation from Modlin whilst Ryanair haven't said anything publically at least about the fiasco there, despite the fact it would have hit them more, since by the time the runway had closed in December, Wizz had already moved out for the winter because of the lack of ILS.

FR as stated earlier are not happy with PPL, the State Airports company and felt they were being treated unfairly. I certainly would say that PPL would get on better with Wizz Komisja Europejska I Uokik Zbadaj? Dyskryminacj? Ryanair Przez?. Personally I'd like to see both airports in Warsaw under different owners, I honestly don't think in my opinion it's good to have PPL having stakes in both of them, just like I didn't think it was right that BAA had their hands in the three major London airports.

Well the irony at the moment is no frills Ryanair now has the best cabin baggage allowance of the three main low cost airlines, now Easyjet has cut back on it's sizes and Wizz cut the size of the free cabin baggage allowance (naming it small) and started charging for the old normal size, renaming it "Large". It's one thing I hoped would not catch on, but now Easyjet have nodded a little in that direction (but not as far as Wizz) it wouldn't surprise me if others such as Ryanair followed.

@DublinPole: Easyjet has not cut back on it's sizes. It's merely went one further introduced a guarantee that the smaller bags WILL fit in the cabin, large bags will usually fit but will not be guaranteed. If there's no room it will go in the hold free which is exactly the same policy as most other airlines. But let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story, ey?

Warsaw base gets another (=4) aircraft from May 2014 as well.

New routes:

Warsaw-Corfu
Warsaw-Heraklion

Increased frequencies to BCN, EIN, GSE, KUT, MMX, BGY, NYO, TLV and LTN.
There will be 21 Warsaw-Luton flights / week.

Another (8th) aircraft is to be based in BUD from March, it will be used to increase frequencies. E.g. BUD-LTN will be 4x daily while BUD-EIN will be flown twice a day.

A bit older but never the less:

Skopje gets a second a/c from April 2014
WIZZ AIR DOUBLES FLEET IN MACEDONIA

October: new base at Donetsk (1st a/c)
March: BUD 8th a/c
April: SKP 2nd a/c
May: WAW/WMI 4th a/c; SOF 4th a/c

New interesting markets (cause of less competition from FR or EZY) like Tuzla, Kosice, Chisinau, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Dubai, Baku or Moscow will be added to the network with more to follow (rumoured: Astana, Yerevan, Minsk, St. Pertersburg).

If Wizz open a new route at DSA it'll be to somewhere that is an established route from Luton. Somewhere like Bucharest is rather more likely than a route like Baku

Where did they promise new routes? They signed a contract that is all, I cannot see any more destinations for DSA.
