Instead of a housing estate, its more likely that the site will become a gravel extraction plant, its worth more.

I think that even though the sponsors of the proposed housing site around the airport state that they will preserve the airport and Baginton, it will make it difficult for future growth if the plan is adopted.
That said, it is clear that the present company looking at the books do not envisage a large operation. This would suit CVT far better than previous plans.
I was told yesterday that there was expected to be some sort of announcement this week. Not holding breath on that though, my source did not get it from any officials at the council, but, apparently, he was at Cranfield during the week.

Apart from the flying schools. What other airport dependent business' are there still at CVT?
Anyone have a list? I mean the ones that absolutely need the airport as an integral part of their business and would have to move away should it not re-open.

Airport Business

I worked at the airport for nearly five years an the companys i can think of are Almat, aft, Air Atlantique, Air atlantic, and the other flying schools helicentre, cov flying club, midland air training ( Ive probably missed a few). Also Lynx had a couple of shorts 360s in every night with cargo on.

Just on a quick side note to the guys having a grumble about safety procedures and the like. I know sometimes It can be a pain in the bum to remember your hi-vis an other such things, but try an remember we were only enforcing guidelines laid down by our employers an if we were seen to be ignoring them then it came back on us. An lets be honest its not like you were asked to walk over broken glass or anything like that.

Not sure whether the Air Ambulance could operate if it shut down completely.

So apart from the flying schools there is nothing dependent on the airfield? I'm not trying to say they are trivial in anyway, far from it. Just trying to get a rounder picture of what is actually there. If anything.

I would say Air Atlantic are pretty dependant if you've seen the size of thier base and the size of their maintenance staff.

Not forgetting RVl and their maintenance operation, Atlantic West and their maintenance operation plus various other maintenance operations around the airfield.

Theres not just the cost of having new equipment calibrated, but new equipment itself, new saftey cases to be written (with no air traffic so to speak of you will have to get consultants to come in and do it) licenses to be applied for, CAA to inspect and sign it off. Its a long process, some equipment can take years to put in.

I don't think Atlantic would suffer much if they had to move. Especially if they could move to a new custom built base....

CALL100

What do you mean Atlantic would not suffer much if they had to move. Crazy man you are. Any move by a company either planned or forced on them would be expensive. Not just in pennies but also in personnel. How many of the staff would be in a position to move to a new location. A great waste of experience at all levels. Also any prospective landlord would hold most of the cards and could ramp up rents etc.

or Air Atlantique t/a Classic Flight?

They have all been mentioned on this thread!

As far as the staff are concerned, it depends on how far the move would be. As for the rest of it, obviously it would depend on what was offered. The current state of aviation, with airports looking for business opportunities, does make it a good time for companies to negotiate and get some really good deals. It's not as you suggest loaded in favour of the landlords.

I didn't say there was one. I was just speculating the possibilities....By the way, that's all everyone is doing at the moment.....Hopefully, they will not have to move, that would be the best outcome. However, if the worse comes to the worse, they will have to do something.

I'm aware of that. If the airfield closes I would imagine they would all have to move.
As I said, it's part of the discussion. As CVT still has a pulse there may be no need to move or change anything..Let's hope so.

It would be a very shortsighted decision to sell the Nav/comms kit. Some of the equipment is very new (WMIA invested heavily in the Tower) and would cost an awful lot to replace. Regulatory approvals take time and the effect would be to delay any effective reopening whilst burdening the new owners with an unneccessary cost.

Crazy100 I do love your posts.

Airports looking for business and custom made facilities. Been on Google and there is a site that would suit all the different Atlantic companies.

It is very near to Bagington.

I suspect the investment in new kit was part of the £5million that was spent with CVT SOLUTIONS LIMITED. This firm seem to have simiular directors and and is about to be struck off at companies house.

Someone needs to investiagte if the dealings between these firms was proper and if they realy got £5m worth of services from CVT. I am always very suspicous when lots of money move between firms owned by the same directors before one goes under.
