Surely some staff will have to be relocated to CWL in the next couple of weeks in order for the base to be at CWL ?

Nobody has said the base is at CWL Air Guru. Also it is possible to operate the route by overnighting crews in a hotel if needed.

Similar thing is done by many airlines and as an example KLM does something similar at CWL amongst many other airports. Crew overnight in hotel to allow for 6am departure to Amsterdam.

You raise a very valid point, surely if there was to be a base then it would have been announced by the airline within the original press release ?

How many seats will the Cardiff-centric aircraft have ?
How many passengers are likely to be on the 6am / late evening Cityjet flight in/out of Cardiff each weekday ?
How likely are Cityjet to gain extra revenue by connecting passengers onto other long haul flights ? (clue - unlike KLM, very little)
How much does it cost to put the crew up in a hotel and feed them each night ?

Spreading the cost of the hotel/food bills across the passengers on the early morning/late evening flights at Cardiff, how much of a dent does this make in the fare passengers pay ?

Just stressing the possibilities David and also stressing that no announcement at which side of the route the aircraft will be based.

Surely it's just better to just wait the 2 days until the flights go on sale before worrying about how it is to be crewed etc.

I'm sure however those that are already employed by the airline will have the opportunity to re-locate before any new posts are announced. Without knowing where the Fokker 50s are based as i'm assuming that the cabin crews are not both RJ85 & Fokker 50 rated.

When BMI forcibly moved their Heathrow based B737 crews to Cardiff, there was nearly a strike. Given this is essentially VLM, Belgian registered Fokker 50s and that the UK VLM bases at MAN and LPL are long gone, this looks like being an overnight job for the crews.

CWL base seems to be on the cards from 20th January. Initial departures are released in the flight schedule section, with a 06:20dep from CWL. ORY is then served in the gap in the schedule between morning and evening GLA, with the aircraft seemingly being near fully utilised.

The schedule appeared under the Flight Schedule tab for a short while, but was not bookable at any point. Now, its been taken down from that tab as well. All routes are supposed to be on-sale by the end of today, be interesting to see whether they achieve this.

Further Update : A scrolling banner has been placed on the CityJet website stating that all Cardiff flights are definately to launch today. It will be interesting to see the lead in fares being offered, as there has been no mention of fare prices to date.

Altogether, GLA, ORY, JER and EDI are to go onsale today. I believe JER to be 4/5 weekly, in supplement to BE's 1x weekly. Interesting bit of competition on the EDI route though with both Loganair and Cityjet on the route.

CWL to GLA and ORY flights have now been loaded. However only Cityjet Premium fares available to book. Currently the cheapest fare available to GLA is £586.13 return and to ORY is £651.48 return

Unless they are still loading the system and their cheaper fares are yet to come, this has got "disaster" written all over it. There's no way with schedules which are way too early in the morning and slightly late in the evening, fares at just below £300 one-way and a Fokker 50 versus a jet from Bristol that this is going to work. Whoever came up with this one needs to go back to the drawing board - and fast.

If any of you seriously think any airline would charge only that fare for these routes then you need a severe reality check. Cityjet have made a great effort around a difficult time to finalise a schedule, whilst setting up a new network out of an airport that is completely new to them ? To me it seems a great effort by them that these routes are onsale within such a short space of time. Hopefully the next 24hrs will see the release of the CitySaver fares etc. so people can begin to book.

Also if anyone actually looks at the links on the bottom of the page showcasing their available routes it can be seen thay GLA is advertised from £99 return, and ORY from £109 return, which are less than most of the BE fares iv been seeing, not to forget the CityJet product is far better with free snacks onboard regardless of your fare type.

a great effort to make some of your fares available, but not all of them?

Baffling...
