BA Strike at Christmas ???

Am looking to book flights to US at Christmas and my beloved has said she read something in the weekend Daily Telegraph travel section a couple of weeks ago about either BA staff or BAA staff threatening a strike to disrupt Christmas travel.

Anybody know anything ???

Why not fly from LTN and guarantee no strikes.

Obviously, this can be very expensive, but if if you were willing to travel economy your best bet would be LGW with DL, CO, ZX, VS(code-share with CO but usually cheaper even for the same flight) etc., never any problems there - the airport BAA forgot!

As I live near Gatwick that was certainly my best option and the one I looked at first. However my first port of call - Chicago - doesn't appear to be well served from LGW without some complex intermediate changeovers.

8.5 hrs is long enough without spending 4 hours stuck somewhere you don't wanna be.

Currenly looks like AA are my best bet but am still interested in any other answers to the question.

In my experience, YVR also suffers from offensive questioning from Canadian border control.

After reading threads on here this summer was dreading arriving and departing at LHR. In last few weeks have been SLF on following JFK-LHR-MIA with AA and LHR-CAI-LHR with BA. On each arrival at LHR apart from a few circuits in the hold there was no problem with getting a stand and disembarking. BA had quite a long baggage delivery time on our arrival from CAI and we had a 45 minute departure delay waiting for ground staff to do the push back. The BA cabin crew were excellent, I am not so sure the extra paid for world traveller plus though was really worth it ! Additionally had no problems with immigration or security at LHR, guess I was lucky, next in UK for Christmas so hope for repeat performance.

I see Air France is advertising direct flights from LHR to LAX starting April 2008.

CF -

Air France is dropping 4 of its 12 daily Paris flights from LHR due to the Eurostar's move to St Pancras, and its increased speed from December.

One of the slots will be used for LHR-LAX, as you have seen; the others are being leased to Delta Airlines, which will start LHR-JFK twice daily from 29th March, and Atlanta once daily from the same date.

Continental

http://www.uk-airport-news.info/heat...ews-201007.htm

No real surprise.

I did see a post on another forum claiming Gatwick - Newark will be 757
only - not sure what it is at the moment.

DG

BA,VS,AA,UA all serve Ord from LHR.... BA 3xdaily,VS 1daily,AA 5xdaily...and think UA 3daily...so bit of choice.

Try 'Dial-a-flight' too...they can come up with some quite good deals.

cheers

Thanks have booked with AA to avoid the previous rumour of a BA disruption at Xmas.

Now hear it may be BAA and disrupt everybody.

Looking for any info and details of what the BAA staff may be planning.

According to some recently published survey results my wife saw in a weekend paper we are flying from the worst airport in the world (LHR) to the second worst (ORD).

Heathrow. Falsehoods and misleading info

HACAN and Co. have a new website. strangely enough espousing all the usual vitriol against aviation, especially Heathrow.
http://www.stopheathrowexpansion.com/
I especially like the parts about aviation's impact on the uk economy and stating that:
" 35% of people travelling to Heathrow are interchange passengers – they never leave the airport. Therefore they contribute little to the UK economy outside of the aviation industry."
Surely if aviation contributes to the UK economy then 35% of the 67 million passengers must contribute!

Well done chaps, we have a best seller here, Better than Lord of the Rings,
I can see some Green person getting a oscar for making a film of this and also a Nobel Peace prize
The Plight of poor Polar Bear due to the Third runway, The reason Kent is under water is because of the third runway,
Blimey if it is true about global warming then why is my Flat cold
Red Ken's comment is laughable,This is the chap who said Routemaster is next best thing after sliced bread and then gets rid of it , We have not heard from Boris the Mayoral Candidate,
I like the Myths section, Most of the Business people use the City Airport not Heathrow, They have forgotten to add this,
I love these people , But I am wondering, How come no one has mentioned the Health and Safety Factors here

Easy to criticize

I don't think we should be so quick to dismiss out of hand these objections to the expansion.
As someone who both earns and spends my money in aviation I'd like to see expansion of the industry wherever it is needed, including Heathrow.
But we must understand that many people will suffer from increased noise, and those living on the site of the third runway will be forced out of their homes. I feel very sorry for them and I find it entirely understandable that they will use every legal means to try and stop the developments.

I don't think people are devoid of feeling about anybody who is made to suffer though the expansion of aviation, it is just difficult to see the alternative ... it isn't to just stop expansion !!! But people affected should be properly and sympathetically treated and reasonably compensated.

What detracts from their case are the extremists who (apparently) would have us give up flying altogether.

In terms of the economy IF (IF) 35% of the 70 M pax pass through Heathrow without leaving the airport, then so what ?

It looks like 24.5 M pax which with landing fees, aircraft handling and parking fees, passenger handling charges, shop purchases, food, drink, hotels etc ... let us assume £100 each, contribute £2.45 Billion to the UK economy .. much of that in local employment.

So that is no contribution ?????

Continental's LHR flights are now in the res system. Four daily flights total -- 2x from EWR and 2x from IAH.

Flights begin March 30.
