There's too much of the Stansted-Lutons and Liverpool-Manchesters with a dose of Teesside-Newcastles about it for that to work

Yes, but with massive catchment areas way in excess of the Scottish central belt. A central Scotland airport in the Falkirk / Larbert area might have worked before the expansion of GLA & EDI but it us a non starter and would probably never get near the passenger volumes GLA, PIK & EDI. Choice would more likely be limited and as the Market is also smaller compared to MAN and the London area then the major long haul carriers will not be tempted north of the Pennines.

PIK goes down - EDI goes up
As FR announced the Canary routes you could see EDI on the route map (like BGY) one day before but nothing came - until now.
Additional a/c coming?

Good for EDI and good for aviation in general. I wished EDI would build another entry/exit to the south-western apron. With even more RYR aircraft (+Flybe/BA/BACF/Jet2/GSM) it would be sensible to use 12/30 more as a taxiway with a second entry/exit towards stand 29 or something to avoid queues.

Good news regarding FR.
Was supposed to have been approved a while ago. Perhaps waiting until stands 33 and 34 are completed which will be before the end of the year.
I wished EDI would build another entry/exit to the south-western apron

I wish they would hurry up and make the gates on right hand side contact stands so you dont have to bus a 190 passangers to aircrafts.
on a seprate matter why are airlines so reluctant to exploite gaps in the market at edi? such has orlando flights and with the amount of far eastern visitors to Edinburgh and the surrounding areas in summer months and not forgetting Canada as Globespan flight to hamilton is the only one for next year (if they put it in there summer timetable)

Its a shame the TS flight to YYZ has been dropped, although i guess AC with BD & LH means most of Canada is available via LHR or FRA.
Also BA through LHR serve YYZ, YUL, YYC & YVR.
The rest of the world is easy to get to by Skyteam through AMS or CDG, Star Alliance via LHR, FRA, CPH etc. And of course BA and Oneworld.
I do think EDI could support more direct flights, but in the current climate i can really see that happening with the exeption of maybe QR or EY starting an EDI flight.

EDI would be good if it wasn't in Edinburgh!
GLA is full of folk who are seriously into doing their work.
EDI, on the other hand, is full of people who, while acknowledging that there is a problem, are completely absorbed in explaining why it is not their problem.
It was ever thus.
And THAT is how it IS, how it WAS and how it WILL ALWAYS BE...............................at least according to an (ex BA) dispatcher .

A plan to re route the GLA-EDI main line under (FFS) the airport and also to re-route the EDI-Fife lines (which already pass very near to EDI) under the airport. The new station would have been about 500m from the terminal, ie about as far away as the bloody railway is at the moment!
Edinburgh, however much we love it, is a REGIONAL airport.
EARL was a project on a daft scale. Under LAX, for example, it may have been apprporiate. But under EDI???
So it cost the SNP 90 million quid?
That, on it's own is a damn disgrace. But Labour started EARL, not the SNP.
EARL was slated to come in at roughly One Billion quid. (or twice that).
It was a plan dream't up by an idiot. As was the GARL.

EARL
EARL was always a non-starter, both on cost and risk and the SNP were right to dump it before even more money was wasted. The replacement link - a heavy rail station at Cogar interchanging with the new Edinburgh tram line into the airport is a much more sensible solution. I don't know what the costs of this are off-hand but, including the new link from the main Glasgow/Edinburgh line, it will be a fraction of EARL.
Compared to Glasgow, Edinburgh has a much larger spread of direct International services, handles more aircraft movements, greater passenger numbers and vastly more cargo and mail. It is now incontestably Scotland's premier airport and with the new Cogar link connecting it by rail to most of the rest of Scotland, and to North and East England, that position will continue to improve.
Glasgow on the other hand has GARL, which with the best will in the world only makes a very marginal improvement to the airport's connections to the rest of the country. The new M74 extension will help too but I doubt that even together they will get Glasgow back onto an even competitive footing with Edinburgh.

I hope this is not going downhill as yet another bout of GLA v EDI?
EDI is indisputable Scotland's premier airport, uncomplimentary comments and disparaging remarks are not going to change it.
