Nothing to worry about - it would appear some clown left their case in a toilet. Can't be too careful though nowadays.
Quite a bit of disruption reported however, as expected.

I hate the way of the world, we have so given into the terrorists....
Local radio reports are stating that the "article" was left at an airside coffee bar & discovered by one of the (I assume) Costa staff during routine cleaning.
Presumably left behind when someone picked up their cappucino in one hand and toastie in the other.
I always said that the human body lacked a third arm.......

Given this scenario, if I were to open the article, find a name and address amongst the usual nick nacks and ask airport information to tannoy the chap, what's the betting that the Police would attempt to prosecute me for endangering public safety as it may well have been a bomb.....

Habs Fan,
It is not the size of the Immigration/Baggage hall that is the problem. It is the fact that there is only one corridor leading to Immigration or to the Aircraft. As you cannot have passsengers mixing i.e. incimming and outbound passengers. The only alternative is to close the corridor to the incoming passengers until the outbound passengers have finished boarding their aircraft. Since we now live in the age where Airlines and the general public want value for money the aircraft can only be scheduled for a 45 minute if you are lucky or 20 min turnround if Low Cost. This means that priority is then given to boarding passengers rather than allowing disembarking passengers to use that one corridor.
Its all to do with money I am afraid to say. You getbwhat you pay for in the end.

EDI lacks a proper International pier with the facilities one expects from a capital city airport. Hopefully this will all change under independent ownership.

Immigration hall expansion is a work in progress just now. Can't see much else changing (i.e baggage reclaim expansion or the pathetic one corridor for arriving and departing pax thing) until they decide to flip the terminal and make the SE pier the international side, and that'll be a while yet!

I've created a post in the Passengers & SLF folder which some of you may be able to help with. Would anyone with experience of Edinburgh airport, and the traffic situation in town at the moment, mind taking a look? This problem is giving me a bit of a sore head...
Cheers,

New routes
Anyone think edi will see any new routes in the near future with delta air transat leaving and reduced frequence on a lot of other flights.
for a capital city and financal centre and eductional centre of learning its international links to other citys is poor to say the least.
EDI only has one year round flight across the atlantic. surely theres a year round demand for flight to places like Toronto, Orlando, Dubai even posibly flights to place like Austraila and west coast America and Canada must have some sustainable demand to be viable.
or is edi allways going to be a short hop destantion airport?

EDI will no doubt benefit from independent owners - yes even BAA! Can you imagine an independent EDI owner allowing all those potential long haul pax
to pass it's front door heading west? Of course not, it will compete.
At the moment BAA are enjoying a monopoly that allows it to encourage Euro
flights from EDI and regular long haul from it's western bed-fellow..one must suspect there has been back-door calming by means of aircraft facilities or
competition assurances.

Question is (if they sell-off Glasgow) will BAA's Scottish Airports HQ move to
either EDI or ABZ. Some say given Ferrovial's finance woes it will move South, surely a 'Scottish' HQ will look a bit silly in London.?

Not so much if they have to compete with an independent Glasgow. I expect
"new" EDI to strive for direct leisure flights to Florida/Caribbean etc
and scheduled regular Canada, Middle East and Asia flights. Plus some USA
cities. A lot depends on suitable long range aircraft such as the Boeing 787-8
(carrying 210-250 pax) and facilities suited to it being installed at EDI.
